How is it that Paul recieved barely more votes than meetup members in DC?

0 votes

Looking through the various meetup groups in DC I found:
The Wash D C Jan 20, 2009 Inaugural Ron Paul Meetup - 271 members
"Belly of the Beast" DC Ron Paul Meetup Group - 161 members
The Washington, DC Ron Paul 2008 Meetup Group - 133 members
Plus
The Arlington/Alexandria Ron Paul 2008 Meetup Group (nearby) - 357 members (most of these folks probably lived in Virginia, but likely assisted DC)

So I would imagine with overlap in members there's probably a total of 300-325 members in DC meetup groups.

The vote tally for Paul in DC with 98% reporting is 471 votes (8%)

Now I know that DC has a very small Republican population, but still to have approximately 65% of his support to be meetup members seems to be a bit disproportionate to support in other states.

Anyone from these meetup's care to comment on how everything played out over there?

I am the organizer of the Spokane Meetup Group and I can say from experience that Canvassing works, it obviously works better for Caucuses, but it still works none the less. Look at Florida, the precincts that were heavily canvassed Paul came in second to McCain.

If you are a member of the DC meetups let us know how your phone banking and canvassing went....

Not every meetup member eligible

Student members can vote absentee in their home states, and might have done so if it would make a bigger difference. Lots of people work in DC (and go out and politic in DC) but live in the VA/MD suburbs. There's no requirement to be 18 to be on a meetup list. Not every name on a meetup list is active (after all, it's pretty hard to fit 271 people in a room).

Etc.

It doesn't matter if only 25

It doesn't matter if only 25 members were active, only barely having more votes than meetup members indicates a serious lack of reaching out. I'm wondering where the DC meetup members are? I would really like to know is the low vote total due to horrible response while canvassing or due to a lack of canvassing/phonebanking etc.?

Canvassing- not enough

I'd like to know if canvassing was being done there.
The reason I say this is that I spoke to two people from there
that stated canvassing there was a waste of time because
there was mainly democrats??
I got in a bit of a discussion about that.
I am hoping these people weren't discouraging people from canvassing.

We have our best shot in those areas that are highly democratic
because there are fewer republicans to reach.

But no matter what I said(this was in the Ron Paul Paltalk room)
I was shot down on the canvassing of that area.

I Really cannot stress enough, that canvassing is THE key!
If you look at the vote results, these other guys are 10 times our votes.

All we have to do is 10 times the canvassing. This will make it spread.
Please help people get signed up for the precinct programs in their areas.
We need to help on this.

I doubt it's vote fraud, I think it has to do more with the organization and outreach in the area.
