Ron Paul Day - 5 November

Guy Fawkes attempted to kill a despotic monarch who was persecuting Catholics in the 17th Century. On November 5th, we will celebrate Ron Paul Day to commemorate a nonviolent revolution to prevent a fascist take-over of our American government.
I was asked by a participant on Ron Paul's YouTube channel to write something to promote the November 5th fundraising donation bomb that seeks to burst on the political scene like nothing before. It will show the burgeoning power of the Internet in 21st Century politics.
I did not have a lot of time to devote, but this is what I came up with. It is rather long, so feel free to excerpt, cut, or modify in whatever way will serve a given purpose, that is, with the exception of the original verse at the end. My poetic composition begins with the first four lines of the best known contemporary verse about November 5th, known throughout the British Commonwealth as Guy Fawkes Day, and ends with four verses of my creation. Please use in its entirety with acknowledgment.
NOVEMBER 5, 2008 - RON PAUL DAY!
It is on this day that the whole, waiting world will learn that Ron Paul has become the 44th President of the United States.
NOVEMBER 5, 2007 - "V FOR VENDETTA" DAY!
It is on this day that the whole, waiting world will witness a shot heard 'round the world, a day when the Ron Paul Revolution will set off its V-bomb shocking opponents into recognition of the power of Liberty.

Around the British Commonwealth, November 5th is celebrated as Guy Fawkes Day by burning effigies of the revolutionary who plotted to assassinate the Protestant British King who was persecuting Catholics. Guy Fawkes was reborn for the rest of the world in the hero of the movie, “V for Vendetta,” who modeled his revolutionary resistance to a totalitarian British state of the future after Fawkes' opposition to a despotic British King of the 17th century. Ron Paul Day celebrates a peaceful revolution to remove the incipient tyranny that already oppresses the American people.

BTW, in the movie, V is not a socialist. V is a terrorist/ freedom fighter attacking a totalitarian dictator.
I like to think of Ron as a non-violent freedom fighter. :-)

I really don't get the connection between this movie and Ron Paul.... what am I missing? Wasn't this guy a socialist?
Where did you get the idea that Fawkes was a socialist?
Jane, socialism appears to have its origins in the French Revolution in 1789. The term, "socialism" was first used about 1834.
Guy Fawkes died in 1606. He was a Roman Catholic and caught up in the effort of Spain to reassert the Holy Roman Empire in Great Britain, which was Protestant. Fawkes supposedly was acting on behalf of Catholics persecuted by the Protestant king. He was a soldier and munitions expert. I doubt he had any inkling of a socialist type revolution as occurred much later in history.
Jason is right, I think, V for Vendetta is less about V than about the people rising up violently against tyranny to take back control of their lives.
In contrast, the Ron Paul Revolution is a peaceful revolution to prevent the continuing encroachment of fascism upon the Republic for which we stand.
To paraphrase a current idea regarding terrorism. "We fight them here and now with our energy and our votes, so that we don't have to fight them there in the future with our gunpowder and guns."
I think it's less about V
I think it's less about V and more about the people rising up and showing government that they don't control the minds of the people anymore. It's obviously not totally analogous to the movie, but it does get people excited.

It's not about V, it's about the idea of freedom, liberty and hope that V represented to many. Remember the scene where the government tried to lied on TV telling people that V died? Well the little girls didn't believe it, why? because she needed hope and V was that hope.

If we can pull this off, then we will receive UNLIMITED press. Just look at what happened last time. If we can spike the donations for $10M in a single day, everyone will start falling all over themselves!
BUT... and this is important, we must account for attrition and fall off. Not all the meetup members can or will participate, which means it is YOUR job and MINE to get as many non-group members to do this as possible.
Do whatever it takes to get them to donate. If they are non-RP Dems, tell them that it benefits us all to have two anti-war candidates in the general election (even though we know the truth about the Dem candidates) and ask them to help us make that happen.
If they are Kucinich supporters, offer a matching donation to their guy. If they are Libertarian, remind them of what RP is doing for the movement in the press, and that will certainly cause even more people to stand up and take notice.
If they lean to RP, but not sure yet, tell them that this will insure that they have the chance/time to decide whether they like him without the finality of a vote.
If they are pro-RP and are broke, give them the number of a local used DVD reseller and offer to help them "sort" their DVD's... :)
If they have maxed out, have them loan money to a friend, relative, another RP supporter who has not maxed out.
If you or someone else can do more, then do so to help pick up any slack.
If we hit $10M in a single day, we will outstrip even the Dem's fundraising power, bring us more press, more money... and a road paved to the Whitehouse!
This is it, this is the thing that will put us over the top and make the rest of the fight easy. A knock out punch. Without it, we could still win, but will remain a hard fight until the last day. This will guarantee success.

Maybe for McCain, Huckabee, Hunter, and possibly Thompson.
But, it's doubtful, that it would take out Giuliani and Romney.
It's the novelty factor...
Media loves this kinda thing... If they can run a story about $10M in a day, on Guy Fawkes day no less... They won't even mention Rudy and Mitt for quite a while.
$1M over a week got a lot of play, $5M for the quarter is STILL getting play... $10M in a day and they will be falling all over themselves to get in good with the next President... :)
Not saying we can stop working... But It puts us in the top spot as far as attention is concerned.
