Protest To Keep Recruiters Out Of Schools
Submitted by lastmovement on Wed, 02/13/2008 - 18:20
Under the watchful eyes of police in riot gear, hundreds of demonstrators representing a wide array of protest groups on both sides of the Iraq War debate Tuesday traded angry taunts and verbal threats, but their tense interactions fell short of physical violence in anticipation for controversial Berkeley City Council vote over Marine recruiting.

Home educate your own children ...
even college age. 80% of all learning comes from other kids and most of that is not good.

I don't agree and here's why
Berkley is the home of the atom bomb, the butron bomb, the plutonium bomb. It is the leading campaus for nuclear energy and weapons experiments in the past and future. The military is a HUGE factor on Berkely with the recruiters the highest profile, mmany admin, staff, are vets, ret mil, reserve, or contrated with military. Military provides HUGE funding to Berkeley because of the schools' NUCLEAR ACTIVITY.
So if you're going to protest (yawn) Berkeley, why not protest the BIG picture...why pick on kids who got assigned Berkely (Maybe they're between shifts in Iraq). Maybe they gave money to Ron Paul (which they probably did).
Go after the frigging nuclear corporations who have taken our military in our name and spread death and destruction globally through the UN?
I 'd like to suggest you go to Sacremento and protest (yawn) Feinstein who's profitting off the UN resolution 1441 against Iraq with Bechtel (one of the Berkley contributors) instead.
WE ARE GOING TO WIN!

Buried inside this law, is a requirement of school districts to provide personal information on every US student age 16 and over. They can and will call homes.
http://www.themmob.org/lmca/
Parents can opt out, but writing 2 letters, one to the school district, and one to the pentagon.
If the entire school population's parents write these letters, protests are not necessary.
thank you
theres even a article about a 15 year old that had his parents sign up for him. You can google it, its older news.
There bringing in young immigrants and putting them in school when they turn 18 there in the Army now and Citizens.
Google that too.

But if there weren't any recruiters in schools!!!
How could I lord my 98/99 ASVAB score over all the other kids?
Bwahaha!
" Teh Dude abides..."
" Teh Dude abides..."
these questions have no answer....
these problems wouldnt even have to be faced if it werent for the shortcomings of the arbitrary and artificial power of the state....why do we see people with certain uniforms on as being likely to act in a certain manner? isnt this the naivety that leads to WAR?? why does a small oligarchy claim SOOO much power, it always sets a bad precedent for more abuses.
In my sons high school...
... the recruiters hang out in the lunch room everyday filling their little heads of mush full of propaganda. No college or business recruiters hang out in the lunchroom.
My son says they focus on the students with poor grades...
Thats the Point
The Job and College recruiters dont patrol the school, they dont have addresess and Phone #s of students, they dont call you at home.
This isnt about being equal this isnt a Job Fair its everyday.Any company can go to the job fairs at schools. They integrated marines into the school system enviroment. I wouldnt be surpised if there spying on the students and preparing the Radical Thought Crime database.
The part noone is paying attention too is how there doing the draft card. Now they sign you up and you have to opt out. This article is partly about how they dont provide the forms or info about this..When the students and schhols rejected the federal govt intervened.
Before they use to lie to people and say it was law. Well the majority never fell for it. Now there filling them out.
The comment about the Litmus Test in school was a caller on the Alex Jones show. Wich you can take with a grain of salt but it doesnt matter if they enroll you automaticly. This video doesnt go into the many articles about military in schools.

These are GOVERNMENT
schools. As such, they should have to comply. Don't like it? Stop accepting the money.
I agree with the other commenter; if they're letting other recruiters in, the military should be allowed in.
PUBLIC...
... not GOVERNMENT. The federal government doesn't pay for schools, local government does. The Dept. of Ed. just regulates them into inferiority.
mart
thanks for explaining this to campbell...
hey Campbell hope you are not a recruiter...haha....but yes the federal govt should not have a say in this....
I think he is
Education and Army Dont mix. Army and Kids dont mix.

Im waiting for them to say its a security thing,. Cuz we all know that Army cant legaly police civilians. I forgot the name of the law it sound like communist though. Cometasous or something like it

YW..
.. B-)
Interesting to note..
Regardless of your stance on the war and the military there is a very interesting book called:
AWOL: The Unexcused Absence of the Upper Class From Military Service
It explains how cities/colleges like this (albiet often for different reasons) expel the military recruiters and these kids grow up having no true respect for the military or national service. They never serve the country and then they go in to politics, and have no real respect for the military. Sure they pay lip service to it, but you can't really understand the military without having served in it. These people become Congressmen & Senators and then start wars all the while never having served themselves. Then you have the hippocrites like the ones I grew up around who refuse to let their kids be approached my military recruiters, but support GW and the war in Iraq. it's called the "Not With My Kid" syndrom. "We have the money to send little Billy to any school in the country, we don't want him ruining his life by serving in the military, he has so many other options."
Military recruiters should not as a rule be excluded from recruiting any high school or college. I can only imagine the distorted view I would have of the military, and the world for that matter, if I had never chosen to serve, which I might not have, had my parents and the locals kept the recruiters out of my school.
Contrary to the belief of some posters here, we veterans are not poor vitcims of deciet and systemic brain washing.
Regardless of whether or not the War in Iraq is unconstitutional, helping or hurting the national defense. These young men and women are enlisting in to an army at war, saying "I will stand up and defend my country at the risk of my own life." That is powerful.
Now I'm sure the military bashers here will jump all over this comment saying how they aren't defending their country, they are mindless puppets etc etc. But the truth is in their frame of reference they are willing to risk their lives for what they feel will defend your freedom, is that not heroic?
You can say this because you either
did not have to go to war or were fortunate enough to survive in spite of it.
Service in the military, in and of itself, does present a sound basis of a well rounded individual. I would agree with this if it was 10-20 years ago.
It's the use of the military by the Federal Govt. is what I object to for these kids. And they are putting our daughters in harms way too!
They are just kids! Impressionable and they can mold their minds however they see fit with brainwashing and propaganda.
The media does this every day via TV. Not only to all our kids, but t their parents!
Remember seeing the article where they trained our solders to round up American citizens and even including shooting family and friends if they resisted.
This is what we are dealing with today!!!!
Treat them the same as anyone else
The US Military should be treated the exact same way any other employers/recruiters are treated by the school districts. If the schools allow recruiters from local employers access, then they should allow the Military to have access at the same level (and vice-versa). The same goes for universities and colleges - if the state university gets access, then the military academies should have equal access.
How hard is it to just treat everyone fairly and give them the same access? Treat the military just like any other potential employer. That's the only way to give the kids a fair picture of what's waiting for them.
i agree, treat them the same. no better no worse.

What's RP's stance?
Seems like an easy way to alienate the military vote.
Problem is
Military personal have been telling kids to take test in schools as part of there grades.
What they dont tell them is there enrolling in the military and taking the stimulus test.
A girl reported that during school they were rounded up in the libary to take a exam thats part of there final grade. They were told to sign a waiver saying they werent forced to take the test. She asked questions and objected as she spoke the military aproached the other kids to distract them.
And guess what 1 out of 30 was smart enough. Thats just one class. The rest of the school is probaly on there way to iraq.
This is not only a crime its a slick way of making a legal draft.

That's ridiculous. You can't
That's ridiculous. You can't "enroll" someone into the military without telling them. I took the same test in school (a private, Catholic school at that) when I was in grade school.
Shhhh....
Don't use logic and common sense with him. It's not going to work. He thinks that if you blink your eyes in a certain way you'll end up in a truck bound for Iraq.

Well...look at their arguement, not the headline
They are saying that the survey results are saying that recruiters have recruited during class time, which most would agree is a little far, as the recruitment should be an open association, like a table in the cafeteria.
They are basically saying that the SCHOOLS are failing to properly follow established guidlines in regards to the recruiters.
Now this Scott Stringer fellow's comment disgust me, but thats my personal opinion about his obvious bias against the military.
While not legal...
What the took was likely called the ASVAB
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, its a simple standardized test to judge things like your literacy and technical understanding.
They aren't enlisting in the military by taking it, and you can WITHOUT PENALTY OR NEGATIVE RECORD exit military service up to six months after having shipped to basic training for "failure to adapt to the military way of life."
If you get in and hate it you can leave. You can sign an enlistment, swear an oath, go to the station to get on a bus to basic training, and say. "I changed my mind, and just flat WALK AWAY."
Now we are suppossed to believe that by taking a little test in school that the kids sold their life to the military? Come on now.
Not to mention that unless they were 18 they can't even enlist in the military without their parents consent! And you can't unknowingly enlist or the courts throw it out!
