Walker to leave GAO next month

David Walker will leave his position as U.S. comptroller general and head of the Government Accountability Office (GAO) on March 12 to become president and chief executive officer of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation.
“This was a very difficult decision for me,” said Walker, who is known for his outspoken criticism of wasteful government spending. “In the final analysis, while I love both my job as comptroller general and the GAO, I love my country more, and I believe that leading this foundation represents a unique opportunity and will be good for my country.”
Last year, Walker said the U.S. government is on a “burning platform” of policies that cannot be sustained in the long run. At the time, he drew parallels between the current state of affairs in the U.S. and the Roman Empire in its final years.
“As comptroller general of the United States and head of the GAO, there are real limitations on what I can do and say in connection with key public policy issues, especially issues that directly relate to GAO’s client — the Congress,” Walker said.
“My new position will provide me with the ability and resources to more aggressively address a range of current and emerging challenges facing our country, including advocating specific policy solutions and courses of action.”
Walker added that his new job will allow him to “sharpen” his message.
Gene Dodaro, currently GAO’s chief operating officer, will serve as acting comptroller general until a permanent replacement for Walker is found.

Big news, but not that promising
Just another guy who said too much and was offered a deal he couldn't refuse to shut him up, imho. Don't look for anything earth shattering in any speeches he gives anytime in the future.
Peter G. Peterson is currently Chairman of the CFR, since 1985 when he took over from his friend David Rockefeller.
He was also Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York from 2000 to 2004 and is a former CEO of Lehman Brothers.
Here's more if anyone's interested.

Wasn't Peter Peterson
one of the guys that McCain referred to when attempting to make up an answer to the infamous Dr. Paul "YOU GOT SERVED" question at one of the debates?
I swore McCain mentioned him. Can anyone verify?

Why do all the good ones quit?
I wish this trend would stop. We should force the bad ones out, not make the good ones leave! No wonder our government is in the shape it's in!
I think
People with any sense of right and wrong have a hard time in this administration. I'm surprised he didn't quit a long time ago.
Thank you
for properly using the contraction for "it is". Most people can't seem to grasp the difference between "its" and "it's".
He's Quitting! Yikes!
He is one of the reasons I found my way to Dr. Paul. He has been telling everyone that we are going to fall like Rome and nobody is listening. If the man in charge of the accounting in the US is telling people we are having a serious problem, we should all be listening. Unfortunately, not too many people are taking it seriously. He is quitting before the dollar and the economy collapses. He knows what's coming. It is sad to see him leave. He was one of the few honest people in the government.
i think you'll see
a lot of people quit in disgust as Bush's disastrous presidency winds down.

US comptroller general quits
This is BIG news!

Cool!
I'm eagerly awaiting his first speech once he's out of the GAO... if he's going to sharpen his message, it's gonna be a doozy.

Yes...
This is an interesting development.
