Just returned from Cobb Co. GA delegate selection-reportSubmitted by Dale Ritchey on Sat, 02/16/2008 - 13:30
Quite a turned out, I was expecting twelve or so and my best guess would be 150 . At my precint table there where 5 of us. two neocons and three Ron Paul supporters. We were advised by our meet up to attend stealth, so it was interesting trying to pick out the Paul supporters. My feeling is that about 1/3 were for RP, I only base that on physical appearences and age, the only obvious support for RP (buttons, t-shirts etc.) was worn by the folks I would have thought were neocons....Go figure.
I got into a discussion with one of the neocons at my table, he was an older lawyer. He didn't know I was a Ron Paul guy so it made it interesting. I worked RP issues into the conversation as delicately as I could muster. It was fun to watch him squirm when challeged with truth. The whole event lasted about an hour and was quiet with no outbursts of any kind. On my way out the door however, I couldn't contain myself. I saw my state senator walking down the stairs about 10 steps down ( I ran against him as Libertarian in 2000) I called to him "Joe Smith, do you support the trooops?" He responded in the affirmative. I then said "You must be for Ron Paul then?, He gets more contributions from the troops then all the republicans and democrats combined" I then added "I'm a gulf war vet and I'm for Ron Paul" his response was "Do you know where I was born?" to which I reponded "Yes, Germany" his daddy was in the military, he wasn't. I think he was a little shocked that I new the answer. The friend walking beside him gave him a little push and smiled and a few yelps went out in the parking lot.
