TEXANS!
IMPORTANT REMINDER!
When you vote, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you remember to get PROOF that you voted in the REPUBLICAN primary. The election judge can stamp your voter registration card, or if you don't have that, they can give you a paper receipt for proof. It is important to put this in a safe place. You will need it on March 4th when you go to the precinct convention in order to prove that you voted in the Republican primary or you will not be admitted to the precinct convention.
Why do you need to go to the precinct convention?
Because this is where delegates will be selected.
Why do you need to be a delegate?
Because the delegates have power to influence many things in the Texas GOP.
First, the delegates selected at precinct conventions by majority vote will later vote (usually by proxy, meaning you won't have to be present at the next meeting and another Ron Paul supporter can cast your vote for you) at the senatorial district conventions. Those delegates will then go to a State convention and vote for the National delegates who will go to Minneapolis and vote for the Republican nominee. If we have a brokered convention, those delegates DECIDE who the nominee will be.
Second, the delegates selected at precinct conventions can pass resolutions that will influence the Texas GOP Platform. This is a document that sends a message to Republican leaders about what the Republicans in Texas value and want from their leaders. There are currently several things in this document that we'd like to change! So we need your help as a delegate to give us voting power so we can change the platform.
Third, only people who have been delegates can vote in the Texas straw poll. We need Ron Paul supporters as delegates so the next time there's a straw poll, we'll be able to VOTE in this important poll and send a message about who WE want in office instead of just standing outside waving signs and trying to convince other people who took the time to become delegates how to vote!
Why do you need to know who your precinct leader is?
Because your precinct leader has been trained and knows what to expect at the precinct convention. They want to share this information with you ahead of time so we are organized and ready and everyone knows exactly what to expect and what to do. If you have not received a call from your precinct leader, we need to know this! Please send an e-mail to Paul and he will help get you paired up with your precinct leader. If you don't know your precinct, let us know that and we'll help you find out.
Why do you need to continue to canvass even after you've voted?
First, we need as many people to vote for Ron Paul as possible so he wins the popular vote.
Second, we need to keep looking for people who can attend their precinct conventions so that we can be sure we'll have a clear majority and enough votes to ensure that our people get to be delegates.
READY? SET? VOTE!
