The timing is key
Since this is right after an election, this is an unmistakable 'shot across the bow' to the Musharraf opposition parties. Translation: if you oppose the interventionist US policies, you will be targeted next.

I guess that's why Ron Paul has said that the CIA "causes a lot of mischief around the world." I want to see Al-Q dead too, but why did we give billions to Pakistan to do this and then we secretly invade ourselves. Is that money for Pakistan to look the other way? What would Ron Paul say about this. And if we are going to take out Al-Q ourselves, why do we give military dictators one cent? Are we going to take over Pakistan now?
We could have done this in Afghanistan without taking over and democratizing the whole country. Iraq...there was no Al Q.
