A possibly untapped market??
Submitted by thegalli on Sat, 10/20/2007 - 20:18On the bottom of most websites is a link to e-mail the webmaster, even adult websites.
Here's 3 reasons why I think the Adult Web Industry would be great for gaining support and raising funds:
1) Ron Paul is in favor of NEVER regulating the web. This being their livelihood, they'd have a vested interest in that.
2) Ron Paul believes personal privacy is absolutely necessary to a free society. What people do is their own business, and these folks could really >begin bad joke attempt< 'get behind' that. >end bad joke attempt<
3) These guys make money. Lots of money. Hopefully they could kick a little Dr. Paul's way.
Possible Cons:
1) Lots of conservative Republicans wouldn't take to kindly to Dr. Paul taking money from the Adult Web Industry.
2) The MSM would have a field day with it. They already scoured the FEC records and tried to make us out like freaks and geeks.
So I implore you, next time one of 'those' sites 'accidentally' pops up on your screen, take a moment and e-mail the webmaster.
Everyone deserves Liberty, even Adult Webmasters.

From the left.
Now, I'm not saying that no one's communicating with the left about the value of supporting Ron Paul. My friends and I pitch our political tents on the left side of the lawn, and we do all of our campaigning with others that do too.
I would just like to see a little more of Ron Paul's national effort be directed to the growing number of disenfranchised Democrats and leftists.
Many leftists are supporting Dennis Kucinich, hoping that he doesn't do what he did in 2004 and support the Democratic primary winner. They are, of course, fooling themselves, because he will. A smaller number are supporting Mike Gravel too, but they are fast losing heart at his dwindling numbers.
There is a HUGE untapped ocean of disenfranchised Dems and leftists who are ready to embrace Ron Paul's liberty message.
My friends and I know that from personal experience.
Shhh!
Quiet Man
It's a huge job and focusing on all. They have to mainly focus on the people (Republicans) that can actually vote for him in the primary. There's plenty of time to focus on others later. His message is certainly for all though, but media doesn't like to mention him or his true stances, so a lot of ground work for the rest of us. You keep doing your part.

Ok come to my house next weekend
I need you to explain that to my dad! Maybe me (mid level conservative) and you (leftie) could convert him together.
Just use the example of...
a fraction. A fraction has both a numerator and a denominator.
What separates the right from the left is a significant difference in their numerators.
But both share some very significant common denominators, and Ron Paul's message does an effective job of shedding light on them.
The immorality of the preemptive war doctrine, the removal of our imperialist representatives (military industrial complex) abroad, the dismantling of the unjust and ineffective war on drugs, and the reestablishment of a sound monetary system... are just some of the common denominators that both sides of the aisle share.
Just focus on the common denominators, that's the ticket. The numerators will only divide. Know what I mean?
That's my one and only criticism of certain aspects of Ron Paul's current campaign efforts: they unabashedly push some buttons that folks on the right like to be pushed.
I would like for him to push those buttons (common denominators) that both sides of the aisle have more often.
Shhh! (from the left)
RP campaign moolah
I have only seen one major money backer for RP and it was NORML.
National Orginization to Reform Marijuana Laws
So NORML being in the RP camp has not hurt him in the grassroots movement and donors.
Any comments?
Oh come on.
NORML supporting candidates is no biggie, that's why the media rarely ever even brings them up. They have supported many many candidates before - "old news". Now the industry in this topic, is a whole different world in this day. It is a fairly new industry that has exploded recently via the net - "this is new, fresh, controversial news." This makes for a great story today. Why do you think O'reilly brings it up constantly.
We already had strippers for Ron Paul
I think alll publicity is good publicity.
Oh!myGod
I'm thinking about defecting, those 'bama girls are racy (no pun intended!).
"Who is John Galt?"
I don't know
I respect everyone's liberties, but I think that is somewhere you don't even want to go. That is the ONLY story the media would ever run about Dr. Paul again. That is a can of worms that needs to be chucked before it is even opened. I mean one HUGE stepping stone for any groups that want to put him down. They have no dirt on him, don't give them any.
The Market has Spoken.
Well, with most estimates putting the Porn Industry in the $8-10bn per year range, the market has pretty much spoken about the acceptability of this industry.
The answer to any negative criticism that arose from reaching out to this segment of people would be the same old line, "Freedom is pretty popular."
In my opinion, the positive benefits outweigh the negatives. Their money is green too.

Indeed the market has spoken about the acceptability...
But the main stream media has the sheep understanding that they should stand rear to rear and be on guard because they say it is absolutely not acceptable. Yes, the media acknowledges the money generation of the industry, but you will never see the media acknowledge anything remotely close to it being acceptable. They thoroughly crush anyone involved or even remotely tied to it.
But the "VOTING" market almost always plays puritanical
And does its best to "quash" the pr0n industry.
Basically most people are like Newt Gingrich and/or Larry Craig -- Behind closed doors and at night they may be a licentious as all get out.
But publicly (which includes voting) they (and the voters) all play the Puritan.
IOW... this is an RBI (Really Bad Idea).
I know
God forbid we upset the value voters and the dove organization. Prime example of catering to special interest groups, but only the ones that make them look pretty. This is one reason I despise highly religious groups (although I do respect their right to freedom to exhibit their religious symbols in private or public etc.). Not all of them, but so many of them only use it to hide behind it like cowards. The old God-shield.
Not just "Values Voters"
I'm also talking about run-of-the-mill everyday peoples (Evangelicals, Catholics, Lutherans, Baptists, Buddists, even Athiests -- doesn't really matter).
They may visit a pr0n shop and buy issues of "T&A" but they DO NOT buy it in their home town (after all, "what would the neighbors think!!!" -- or worse what will their wife find out???)
Nope, they only buy the things when they are out of town on a business trip (Larry Craig anyone?) -- and then they leave 'em under the Gideon Bible, or in the middle of the yellow pages in the motel's nightstand. (Sick I know, but I've run across the things when looking up restaurants and stuff... blech, usually makes me lose my appetite and resolves the restaurant problem for me).
Point being the "what would the neighbors think" attitude would make them completely dis-associate themselves with a Ron Paul bumper sticker... or donating or voting for him. (I think the "Strippers for RP" has already lost us a good % of probable primary voters... same men who visits strip joints when in Vegas would be "repelled" by the idea of voting for Ron Paul if he is "associated" with such a thing publicly.)
Dang!
I gotta stay in more hotels. ROFL.
HA! Yeah some of them were a bit "seedy"
But then, you don't always have much for choice when your work takes you to odd manufacturers located in obscure midwestern towns -- in the middle of NO and WHERE -- with just one local motel.
Best you can typically hope for is one of the newer "AmericInn" (which are normally pretty nice, but definitely not your "Hyatt Regency" grade).
I'm working on it
.... ;-)
Yeah!
That's the... uh... spirit....

Alot of your neighbors...
are. in the "adult" industry in some form or manner..
either they buy toys or playwear at the local boutique
buy or watch porn
are members of an online club that discusses some sort of fetish or activity
maybe are swingers
know someone that is in the industry
run an adult club or adult service or goods industry
conservatives, liberals, independents.....sexuality is universal....across all socio-economic, political tastes....
I plan on posting links to Dr. Paul on what I a member of....
adult industry neighbors
I've worked in the adult industry and we're just like anyone else. Remarkably normal people, and very honest with themselves.
For the record, I have talked him up to the few people I know. As the original post suggests, internet censorship and/or regulation is bad for business. I can tell you, this is a HUGE $ industry and I think it's a damn good market to target.
For the value voters who may be turned off, please understand (and I mean this as an inoffensive objective fact) many of them might be turned off by value voters. However, as we have proven, freedom crosses all boundaries - race, creed, sexual orientation, and even line of work.
To think we have pot heads and bible beaters working hand in hand, towards the same goal, is a testament to the power of freedom.
That's why small local government works. Some may be pro-choice, some pro-life, some pro weed, some against it, some against pornography, some all for it. For all our differences, we all want the same thing at the end of the day, to live as we want to live and not by others morality or perspective.
We can all be free if we all work together.

Terrible Idea
This is a very bad idea. Ron's already gonna have alot of trouble once the MSM starts to get ahold of him.
It took them what - one 2 second clip of Howard Dean to label him as totally bat-shit crazy. Think carefully about that. Was Dean acting that outrageously, or was he just painted that way?
They'll do it to Paul, and they'll do it in a minute. He's got enough liabilities as it is. I understand that on a reasonable analysis of the issues, Paul's position makes perfect sense. But they don't play reasonable explanations, they play 2 second soundbites.
If you want that money, encourage them to donate as "actor", "director" or "mergers and aquisitions" if need be. I'm sure they know more than anyone the potential liablitiy.
As a matter of fact, someone should see if Rudy McRompson is getting heavy donations from any groups deemed less than wholesome.
I hate having to play politics like this, but if we don't act carefully, they'll just bat us aside, turn Paul into Faux news soundbite, and convince mainstream america in a night. Stay on guard.
Not arguing
I'm also not sure this is the best idea, but I think when the MSM hits the point they can no longer ignore him they will do everything they can to make him look "bat-shit crazy" anyway.
Also there is a small chance Dean really was pulling a Tom Cruise. ;) I swear if there had been a couch....somehow I just don't see Dr. Paul giving them that clip. Hehe!
yep
my point exactly.
