McCains Funds

If you think all McCain will have until September you better think again. I just got an email from the Republican Party of Michigan.

As soon as the nomination is declared, they will roll out with fundraisers, dinners, rallies, etc. All of this will be at the Repbublican Party level in each state. McCain is on his way to being flush with cash.

Sorry, but its reality

If the New York Times is

If the New York Times is correct, there won't be any fundraisers, dinners, or rallies because McCain will be forced to drop out of the race.

The story is quickly growing legs and the media is in panic mode. I love how talking head pundits try to spin this story into something, "positive for McCain." That's like saying having a crack habit is good for you.

The story is not going away any time soon, and when America finds out McCain lied, he will be nothing but damaged goods. If McCain is forced to drop out in disgrace, a brokered convention is 100% guaranteed.

But perhaps most importantly, Texas and Ohio go to the polls on March 4th. If McCain loses Texas, he will not win the nomination. He will not be able to win the 1,191 delegates necessary to secure the GOP nomination.

yep, something new out on

yep, something new out on McCain each day...only the beginning.

The bottom line is McCain is

The bottom line is McCain is broke and will not be able to sustain his campaign until September. He is not taking public funds, and is now married to this position. What was interesting about the article was how McCain's lawyer said they fully intend to ignore the FEC and, "will not adhere to spending limits, and that the FEC can't stop him."

If the FEC is correct, John McCain will only have $6 million to spend for the rest of his campaign. If you think Mondale got trounced, just wait.

.

.

This will be a non-event

Trust me..........the militaristic neocon GOP would love to give the keys to the Pentagon to John McCain..........he'll spend more than Bush! These people won't let the little old FEC get in the way. The only thing that's going to derail them now, is Obama Osama Hussein Bin Laden, or something like that. Whatever, his name, he's clubbing Clinton, and who would have thunk that? McCain should be easy in a popular vote.

It Could Be a Political Football

He has been fighting with McCain before. There are currently 4 vacancies on the board, and they can't get a quorum until Congress appoints replacements, which they haven't done in months.

I thought this story very interesting, and likely to last longer than the lobbyist story, even though it dropped out of the headlines very quickly, yesterday. The thing is, Democrats get to weigh in on the FEC appointments, and it's a great opportunity to keep the story in the news.

However, they may want to wait until McCain locks the nomination, or risk doing too much damage and giving an advantage to Huckabee or Paul.

It seemed to me that the FEC chair was hoping to force somebody's hand, maybe just to get the positions filled (he can't do anything by himself) or maybe to get back at McCain, or maybe just doing his job.

A wager

I'm the "It's over, let's get back to the unglamorous work electing lower level politicians" camp. I didn't come here to rain on your parade, but I would like to offer a bet.

You can pick the amount. If Paul wins the nomination, I'll pay you off. If he doesn't, you donate to the political campaign (or organization) of my choosing.

Any takers?

I can understand your

I can understand your sentiment (it seems pragmatic), but no offense, with that kind of work ethic I would not find it hard to imagine that you have never won a race from behind in your life... foot race or otherwise. You keep running as hard as you can until you cross the line - period. History is replete with 'sure things' slipping up near the end.

on top of never came from behind to win...

add to it...makes excuses for everything (see below)...i'm sure he even got picked last for ring around the rosie...

"Excuse" vs. "Reason"

What's the difference between an "excuse" and a "reason"?

A "reason" is an accurate description of the cause of events. An "excuse" is an attempt to deflect attention away from the accurate description of the cause of events.

If you think I'm simply making "excuses", you should be eager to accept my wager.

So I'm guessing

Dewey Beat Truman?
Seward Beat Lincoln?
The Goliath beat David?
War Admiral beat Seabiscuit?

I only bet with winners-that's why I donate to the Ron Paul campaign. For all you whiners out there become a delegate or run for local committee.

Nice...

I like that!

Yes and no

You keep running as hard as you can until you cross the line - period.

You're right, but "a race" is the wrong analogy. We're in a war for the future of the country. Paul's campaign is a battle in that war. Unless you consider it this battle to be the last possible chance to win the war, at some point you have fall back and regroup. Otherwise, you'll spend all your resources in a suboptimal engagement.

no offense, with that kind of work ethic

This isn't about my work ethic. I didn't quit working and I'm not going to. I just changed my focus to a strategy that I believe has a higher probability of success.

I would not find it hard to imagine that you have never won a race from behind in your life...

It's not about "being behind" either. We've been behind for the past 12 months. Heck, we've been behind for the last 150 years. I busted my ass for Paul when it looked like he had a shot. When it became obvious that he didn't, I refocused my efforts. And no, I didn't give up early. I donated on 12/31 and I campaigned right up until my state's primary on 1/15. I did all of that despite the fact that ALL of the December numbers showed a disappointing plateau. When the actual elections confirmed that the plateau was real, I had seen all that I needed to see.

last possible battle...it may very well be

it IS about your work ethic...you think this race is over, it is not...and as for your last remark, thank you for your service to RP...has anyone not told you that today? what have you done ANY different than anybody else here? everyone is working hard, everyone is contributing...keep up the good work, look at my words, damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!

I ain't done! Are you done? I ain't done working to get RP elected. Are you done?

its 'cos I owe ya, my young friend...

If you think it's the last battle...

...by all means, fire every round at your disposal.

I happen to disagree, though. That why I am done actively supporting RP. I am focusing on the next battle. I'm trying to learn the lessons from this one, so I can help build the next RP, bigger and better.

I urge you to reconsider your approach, but I respect your decision if you still disagree.

The reply from the FEC (PDF), dated Feb. 19 and released by the FEC today, will almost certainly come as a shock to the campaign, which assumed McCain had withdrawn from the public system two weeks ago and was now free to spend money without regard to federal limits.

The reason this matters so much? Life within the public financing system, in which candidate contributions are matched with federal funds, comes with severe spending restrictions. Most notable among them is an overall spending cap of $54 million that would hang over the campaign until McCain officially accepts his party's nomination at the Republican National Convention in September. McCain has already spent $49 million, according to a report his campaign filed this week, though some of that could be backed out under various exemptions.

Still, the spending restriction would create an enormous crisis for a campaign that had planned to raise and spend huge volumes of money over the next six months.

We need to take advantage of this

"get our boots on the ground" in Ohio and Texas -- big states for delegates. We must keep McCain from getting these and talk to the people about how important these two states are when we canvas and call.

The primary in these two states is March 4th! Sign up to be a precint leader and make calls -- send letters. It's easy and everything is provided.
