Beyond Wikipedia

As we saw in yesterday's thread regarding the banning of G. Edward Griffin from Wikipedia, I suggest we look for alternatives to Wikipedia. It's just not a serious site and if people such as Griffin can be banned (?) from the site, why don't we eliminate Wikipedia as a go-to site when we need serious information? Here are some alternatives:

My favorite comment on Mercola's site regarding Wikipedia

"Wiki is about as trustworthy as a drug approval at FDA."

As always, use due diligence and don't rely on one source for ANY bit of information.

Wikipedia is fairly good

Their argument for deletion of the article was that Griffin wasn't notable enough to warrant an article. As per Wikipedia's official rules and guidelines, which are very specific, I have to concur. However, overall, I am very impressed with wikipedia and feel they present a balanced view on nearly everything important.
In order to get Griffin included, he would need to have references to himself outside of himself. He's popular, but all his works and websites are self-published. For obvious reasons, you can't have an article about someone where the only references to them come from themselves.

It can be edited by anyone, but if they don't follow the guidelines, other users can bring it up on the talk pages, and they have moderators who seek to reach consensus. Everything must be cited and there are varying standards of credibility for sources as well as logical formalcies one is suppossed to use..

Reply to Who is Griffin

Hi, ILUVRON2008! Griffin is G. Edward Griffin, the author of "The Creature from Jekyll Island", the subject of which is the Federal Reserve. Excellent work by Mr. Griffin. Mr. Griffin has published many other books and articles. He also has a weekly newsletter called Freedom Force. He speaks on a variety of topics ranging from collectivism, the unconstitutionality of the Federal Reserve, gold and monetary policy, etc. And we found out yesterday that he has been banned from Wikipedia. Believe that? Tells you what Wikipedia is all about...To find out more, you can Google him or search for him on YouTube for videos. Hope this helps!
