Does Anyone Know About The Liberty Dollar?

0 votes

I was doing some research online and came across a video about a man named Bernard Von Nothaus. He has done some interviews regarding the Federal Reserve and their devaluation of the dollar. He has also created a private currency called the Liberty Dollar. Now the US Mint says that it's not legal. He says it is and shows proof on his website here:

https://www.libertydollar.org/ld/about/index.htm

I have not heard of this before, but he claims that it is all backed by silver and independently audited every month.

If it is all legit...What if we all purchased some of these...and made a sort of phone directory with goods and services that all of us provide around the country and use these liberty dollars to trade with one another. No more of our dollars in circulation...no more of us helping the national debt...it may sound far fetched...but what doesn't these days? Thoughts?

Liberty Dollar was really

Liberty Dollar was really great. I say was because a few months ago they were raided by the Fed's and the Fed's confiscated ALL of the gold and silver held by not only the Liberty Dollar but also the Warehouse (meaning they took the certificate holders money as well). They did all of this without filing any charges on Bernard at the time but I believe have since pressed "mail fraud" charges that are entirely bunk as I've always gotten great service from Liberty Dollar.

They may be back up and running now, I'm not sure.

If you can still get them they are a pretty good buy, you can invest in silver in other ways but these you can trade. Make sure if you intend to spend one of these that the person you give it to understands it is not a government coin and they will not be able to deposit it in the bank.

They are pure, they are impeccable, and I own too few of them..

I was about to say that

You can still get regular silver coins.
I worry about resale but I have a few anyways, I plan on buying more.

Maybe I'll get some more, if

Maybe I'll get some more, if you show people over 60 one they look in disbelief that one ounce of silver is really worth $20 (ok well $18 and change) They will think back when it use to be worth $1.

Since the liberty dollar had its problems.. I've been buying "chip" gold from this site. https://online.kitco.com/splash/chipgold/index.html

Please read Title 31 U.S.C. Section 5112

This establishes what is legal and lawful tender in the united States of America. The above-said "Liberty Dollars" are legal but are not legal tender. You may barter, trade and make purchases with these coins if someone is agreeable to it. However I would not be able to guarantee they have been properly assayed (tested) for the amount of silver to alloy ratio. Alloy, such as zinc, copper, or nickel, is added to the silver (or gold) coins so they are not too malleable and subject to damage.

I tried to contact them a number of times to no avail about 3 months ago. I tried to email and to call...nothing. I wanted to use the rom paul dollar on a website. www.2008superboycott.com but never got an answer. I used it and gave them a prominanent link on the front page.

You can get paper Liberty dollars on eBay. If you do you can get in on a law suit against the Fed.

I am in fact the proud owner

I am in fact the proud owner of a Ron Paul Liberty silver $20. Semi-rare commodity since the Feds came in and took everything.

Yes it is posible because he can also provide digital format. What it needs is a propietary paypal type mechanizm.

However since the Feds came down on them i'm not sure what their status is. Are they still in business?

They are

all over ebay...well not the Ron Paul ones...:)

The website is still

up...but I notice they haven't been audited since Aug 07 so I'm not sure...I just signed up for a shopping cart. They are selling for about $5 over spot, but the date of addition to the website was Dec 07.

Maybe we should send them an email and ask how business is and if they are up and running.

Yeah, they were unlawfully raided by the Feds.

I think a combination of one million or two million silver and/or gold coins were confiscated from them, They did get all of their computers and some equipment back and have since brought a lawsuit against the Feds. They also recently came BACK out with another silver dollar called an "arrest" dollar - as it is a SPECIAL deal for supporting their lawsuit. I am not sure but I think they were allowed to produce it by permission and/or they adopted an approved Federal mark or imprint upon the new coin. Fromn what I understand they of the libertydollar.org were NOT supposed to call them silver "COINS". I think it had something to do with a copyright or Federal trade mark infringement - I could be wrong. I still have 3 or 4 Ron Paul silver dollars from them and about 10 other silver dollars from them. I never did get my copper dollars and my, my how I am glad that I did not ever order the gold dollar they offered because by the time i would have sent the money was just around that same time they were raided like that - and thus I would have never seen that gold coin. It would have cost me $1000.00 for nothing.

It looks like they added

a few things to the back. "MSRP" was added to the back and "PVBC" to stand for "private voluntary barter currency". Here is what the 2008 coin page says:

"2008 $20 Silver Liberty Dollar $23.07

In celebration of the Tenth Anniversary - the new 2008 Liberty Dollar will feature a special 10th Anniversary Hallmark! That’s right, the reverse of the 2008 Silver Liberty Dollar will be hand stamped with a punch and sludge hammer with a special 10th Anniversary hallmark. More information is available HERE. Due to the hand struck quality hallmarking, each hallmark will be slightly different and not all hallmarks will contain the complete hallmark.

The $20 Silver Liberty Dollar dated 2008 has a face value of TWENTY LIBERTY DOLLARS, measures 39 mm and contains one Troy ounce of .999 fine silver in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

Two innovations have been incorporated into this design to eliminate any possible confusion: First, as the 2008 Liberty Dollar is a “private voluntary barter currency” the PVBC acronym had been added so there is no confusion about the Liberty Dollar. It is NOT government money!

Second, in keeping with other “brand name” practices, the acronym MSRP (Manufacturers Suggest Retail Price) has been added to fully disclose that the face value of $20 is the MSRP. Please note, the Liberty Dollar is NOT denominated in US dollars! It is denominated in “Liberty Dollars” because it is .999 fine silver."

Hopefully I will hear from them tomorrow to get more of a scoop on what is going on. I am currently watching the interview with him and he stated in 06 that they couldn't use the word "coin" so, why he was raided in 07 is beyond me. I am sure that they came up with a good reason...well...if I can buy one anytime soon, I'm going to.
