If you buy online, on the phone or through the mail, you will be on the lists that "could" be taken by the fed during a gold and precious metals recall. Don't be foolish, it has happened before in America and elsewhere. Buy from a local coin dealer with cash only. Fair warning...
(no, I am not a coin dealer)
Go to your dentist
gold crowns might be good investment.

If you are on the Western part of the island
There should be a coin dealer in Palermo. If not, you can probably find one in Rome.

Very Simple
To start just goto www.apmex.com
This is where I shop. Click on silver and depending on how much you want to invest...Click on 90% bags of coins, or American Eagles. This is a great site, that is way cheaper than your local dealer, and is safe. With prices skyrocketing, you want to deal with a place that is safe. Their are actually counterfit coins popping up, or copies. I was on Ebay last night.....and I found 10 Silver Morgan dollars. These are copies. It is very mis-leading. You must be careful. Only deal with big dealers.
Don't get caught buying these....you will be sorry.

Too much??
How about when it is at $1500 or more an ounce??? $980 will seem cheap.
Your coin dealer would be a good source.
If you find him or her to be honest and reputable talk to them aboutthe fifty dollar gold double eagles and the one dollar silver walking liberties. These are good because not only are they legal and lawful United States dollars but you can easily go out and spend them. If you pay twenty bucks for the one dollar coin spend it on twenty bucks worth of goods or services. Same with the gold. The coins are not increasing in value. The Federal Reserve Notes (FRN) are depreciating; and at an alarming rate at that. If you save them for a rainy day, great. If you spend them you are securing our country economically. People will love doing business with you because they'll soon figure out the paper FRNs are just that: paper. When they feel the weight of a one oz. gold or silver coin in their hand they will be just as dazzled as people have been throughout history.
Question for Gene Koszio
I admit I didn't read every post here in detail, but my sense is that it's best to buy from a coin dealer vs. over the Internet? Silver coins are available through G. Edward Griffin's FreedomForce site...but you say buy direct from a dealer? I know I need to do this, but want to make the best decision I can in terms of where I get the coins from...Thank you!
unfortunatly im overseas in
unfortunatly im overseas in italy right now..so i dont think i would be able to get with a coin dealer...isnt gold cheaper in this part of the world?

This is my own experience.
If you want to shop around through other brokers or buy on the Internet by all means do so.
I went into the coin dealer and asked if I could cash my weekly paycheck for gold and silver coin. He said yes. I cashed it and said "Thank you". I walked out of the store with legal and lawful gold and silver united States of America dollars and a receipt showing what I received cash in hand. No I.D. requested, no hassles, just the inconvenience of looking for a parking space.
My intent was twofold:
1. Stabilize myself and others in my community financially by using money for goods and services.
2. Reducing my tax liability. Say I have a check for $900.00 and a one oz. fifty dollar gold coin is valued at $900.00 then I discharge the check for the coin. I am taxed on what I receive cash in hand, not what the check says.
If I am challenged by the tax collectors paperwork (W-2) then I show them my paperwork which is the receipt from the coin dealer. The receipt contradicts the W-2. I was paid fifty dollars NOT nine hundred Federal Reserve Notes. The tax collector knows that one of these is defined as legal and lawful American dollars and the other is not defined in law as a dollar.
We cannot have two kinds of dollars in this country. It would violate Article I, Section 8, Clause 5, regarding equal weights and measures. Now the burden of proof lies with the tax collector to show me the law that defines Federal Reserve Notes as legal and lawful dollars or money. Checkmate; I haven't been audited in eleven years. This is too hot an issue for them to mess with. This, by the way, is how the billionaires do it.
When doing this,
make sure that you are being paid in gold and silver eagles.

Exactly. Don't want to confuse people.
See: Title 31 U.S.C. Section 5112(a)
wow, this really works?
Ive got to look into this some more!!
Read what Congressman Phillip Crane stated on the House Floor
when he introduced the 1985 Gold Coin Act. Reagan signed it into law. Congress has done it's job and given you back your ability to use money. It's been over tweny years now and not many Americans are exercising this legal, lawful and Constitutionally protected right. Ron Paul has been telling you this in almost all his speeches, debates, letters and emails. It's money. American money. See you at the Rally.
Be careful
I read somewhere that a company was paying their employees in gold dollars - so they only made a dollar a week in gold coins - everybody in the company was charged and some convicted of fraud...wish I could remember the source - but really research before you attempt something like this.
nope. they all got off

I based my method on this case.
This being the Robert Kahre case out of Las Vegas. The I.R.S. tried to intimidate him but he prevailed and was completely exonerated. His employees were so enthusiastic about being paid in actual money that they became overproductive and the proprietorship grew too quickly and suffered growing pains. That was years ago and they are still plugging along while other businesses are going broke all around them.
