About those alternate delegates...

We've heard a lot throughout the campaign about how important it has been to run for delegates and alternate delegates. Until this point, it seemed to me that the "alternate" spots would be fairly insignificant, as they would only be attending in the case of illness or some other emergency on the part of a delegate. Maybe I'm just a little slow on the uptake, but I only now realized (from a quick glance at google news articles) that many delegates will CHOOSE not to attend because their candidate has withdrawn from the race. I only now see how important the alternate slots COULD be. Does anyone know how much of an impact this has the potential to make?

a LOT
Not only will delegates for other candidates choose not to show up to caucus/primary votes, but they will not want to pay the fees to get into conventions.
Here, our county convention costs $35, then state which will be $150.....we are dedicated and will find ways to cover these fees, but would you pay those types of fees for someone you only casually supported and thought had already won?
Seriously....we need to SWARM the conventions with Ron Paul delegates. This means electing as many Ron Paul delegates and alternates at the caucus/primary level and then keep working hard to get every single delegate slot we can between now and the convention in St. Paul.
Please see my thread "McCain versus Paul!!!"
Note: If you cannot afford these fees, do not worry. Simply get yourself elected as a delegate at the caucus/primary level, then vote for another Ron Paul delegate at the county convention.
Also, many meetup groups have a fund setup to help people in financial need...so do NOT let finances be an issue for the Ron Paul delegates or alternates!

Sounds promising...
good to hear! I don't know why it took me so long to "get" it!
Being an alternate
is very important.A lot of delegates
don't want to bother going to the state conventions and just drop out.My brother inlaw was an alternate in Alaska and became a delegate within a week.
