Can delegate at the National Convention vote for candidates who have dropped out?

People are still voting for Romney and Thompson when they are on the primary ballots, will their delegates still be able to vote for them and the convention?

Yes, if they're placed into consideration at convention

The way I read the GOP rules (a link to them was posted here, yesterday -I think the caption was "Must Read"), the delegates can nominate anyone they want to, whether we've ever heard of them or not. The requirement for nomination (to be considered as a nominee) is a demonstration of majority support from 6 states.

Maybe they do a show of hands? I don't know how one "demonstrates support" but I imagine delegates wearing all Ron Paul gear would do it. Perhaps singing a few Ron Paul songs. Maybe marching. I can't wait to see this on CSPAN. ;)

This "demonstration" is prior to any voting for nominees and is used to make the list of choices; being bound to a candidate by their states' rules does not appear to apply because that only applies to whom you give your vote, not whom you nominate be considered.

As shown elsewhere here today, there is a real hope that the delegates will unbind themselves before attending. Keep in mind that the GOP is a membership organization with the members having a vested interest in keeping power/freedom for themselves. This makes them hard to manage top, down, especially if they're not happy with the presumed nominee.

I guess the same can be said for the citizens of this country.

The majotiry is the majority

The majotiry is the majority of delegates not votes.

Unless the rules have changed once you withdraw from the race you can not reapply to be the nominee.

It seems to me from my perch outside the GOP that "demonstration of majority support" could mean all RP delegates from those states. If so, and I have no idea if I'm correct, then that makes Operation Delegation that much more important.

However, I saw a poster name that I think can sum up our position well, so I'll rephrase it here:

"Liberty Math: 1776 > 1984"

Become a delegate for Ron Paul.

There are only two candidates now, McCain and Ron Paul.
