"A primary purpose of the educational system is to train school children in good citizenship, patriotism and loyalty to the state and the nation as a means of protecting the public welfare," the judge wrote, quoting from a 1961 case on a similar issue.

Fascism at its best.
This shouldn't surprise any of us here. We have seen this type of slow erosion of our rights go on for far to long. We can not continue to allow this or before you know it you will have a black bag over your head and will never be seen again.
Freedom!
I know my
Family member homeschooler in California had jumped on the Ron Paul bandwagon big time. Wonder how many of them did not? Bet they wished they had now.
I think
but I'm not sure , the schools get x federal $ per student, so the way I see it they wanted to "fluff" up the numbers... Your tax dollars at work
You pretty much
have the right heuristics to figure out most anything governments do - following the $$$$.
Defend Liberty!
I find it ironic
that this is posted the day after it was announced that California is so far off of budget that they are laying off MASSIVE amounts of teachers and cutting many school programs. The state can not afford to educate our kids, and they have restricted our rights to educate them ourselves... what are we suppose to do?

Dr. Ron Paul is my HERO!
The decision is correct. The judge
is following the law as written. What is wrong is the law. The next court case should address the validity of the law. Also, the legislature could change the law.
I am a teacher and totally SUPPORT homeschooling by anyone. The Calif. law is a total intrusion into individual rights and freedoms.
If the revolution is going to happen it is going to happen from the bottom up. Homeschooling would be a logical first issue.

Appalling!
Did you all read the comments under the article? I expected folks to be up in arms! Instead they were saying, Just get the credentials, what’s the big deal or were derogatory toward home schooling.
Did you catch the blip about parental rights (rather loss of privilege). In addition to the frankness about educating loyality to the state.
"California courts have held that ... parents do not have a constitutional right to home school their children," Justice H. Walter Croskey
Oh, sorry but the GOVERNMENT is limited by the Constitution – not the people. Yes, we as sovereign individuals have the every unalienable right to rear our children. Sorry, the collective majority, non-profit organization, teachers union, courts and state; still lack the capacity to assend in authority above that of the creator. If the father physically harmed his child then press charges. Otherwise, in my judgment from the a previous California State ruling (below) a child would be better off home schooled then subjected to the material Palmdale Public Schools and the court find to be suitable subject matter for 6, 8 and 10 year old children.
“When a few parents in Palmdale, California learned that their children’s school had permitted researchers to interview first, third and fifth grade students about such things as sexual urges and fantasies, they became outraged and took the matter to court.
The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals heard the case and concluded that when parents place their children in a public school, they forfeit any right to determine what or how their children are taught. The school may teach anything it wishes in any way it wishes. It may allow researchers, special interests, social activists, and anyone else it chooses access to students. The court’s decision confirmed earlier court opinions.”

Hmmm… what do you think the courts would have done if the “research” material would have been reversed.
Anybody KNOW anybody
Anybody KNOW anybody familiar with California law?! Some advice as to how to procede would be good....
NONE BUT PAUL!
There's a petition to depublish the court's findings
on HSLDA's site. That would prevent the findings from being cited in other courts, but you would have to give your contact info to the HSLDA.

Ok, my question is, what are
Ok, my question is, what are we going to do about it? Are we going to allow California to set a precedent for the rest of the States? I homeschool in Texas, which is one of the most free states for homeschooling; but I don't want to just sit by and let this crazy ruling possibly affect other states in the future... We all know that crazy Hillary hates homeschoolers.... Under her previous presidency homeschoolers were called terrorists... remember? If she should become president, I would hate to see what would happen.
Bottom line.... is anyone here familiar with California law? Can we challenge this ruling? Remember, we are a Movement now... we need to start flexing our political arm to stop legislation that is against freedom... That's what it's all about, people!!
NONE BUT PAUL!
I agree. If California
I agree. If California adopts this way of thinking, then you better believe that it'll spread to the East Coast. It's just like cancer.....as soon as you find you have it, you begin an attack. We can't let this "cancer" establish itself and thrive.
Off topic...

I could offer my basement to the refugees,
but for all the cost of relocating a family, they could just rent an apartment in Nevada.

dang
"the primary purpose .... is loyalty to the state and nation as a means of protecting public welfare."
thats scary. Sounds like they dont want any individualism or self thinkers.
My four years in high school was a waste. What I learned in that 4 years, I should have learned in 6 months.
I might have to move to another state now.
Should education be compulsory and tax supported?
Should the government be permitted to remove children forcibly from their homes, with or without the parents consent and subject the children to educational training and procedures of which the parents may or may not approve?
Should citizens have their wealth expropriated to support an educational system which they may or may not sanction, and to pay for an educational system of children that are not their own?
To anyone who undrstands and is consistently committed to the principles of individual rights, the answer is clearly:NO.

Primary Purpose?!
I thought the primary purpose of education was to teach children to love learning and to encourage creativity and intelligent thought processes to allow them to succeed and excel in their adult lives. That should be the primary purpose. I believe this is the most direct statement of propaganda and state control I have ever seen publicly stated by a government official. If I were a resident of California, I would be calling for the immediate impeachment of that judge.
To be fair, the quote is "A
To be fair, the quote is "A primary purpose." But your point stands. I'm not sure how many "primary" purposes they think education has or can have. I'm only aware of three, the 3 Rs: reading, 'riting and 'rithmatic. Those skills make everything else possible.
But never forget: whatever government declares, parents are always free to home school; even if they come and haul your kids away at gunpoint every morning, you can still deprogram them every night.
Learn your children's curriculum, so you can counter it!

good thing I moved..
to Oregon from CA two years ago. I am a homeschooling mother of one and I can't imagine being forced to put my child in a crappy public school that will fill his mind with lies. This happening in CA makes me really sad, I feel terrible for those poor parents.
Peace.Love.Unity.Respect.
Most Homeschoolers get what they deserve
Any home schooler that did not vote for Ron Paul and knew about him gets what they deserve. I home schooled my children in California and discovered Ron Paul because of it. I know home schoolers in California that heard about Ron Paul but didn't vote for him! Now look what they are contending with. We need to start thinking about the implications of our vote and now!
This is amazing. The last sentence really blew me away. "Heimov said her organization's chief concern was not the quality of the children's education, but their "being in a place daily where they would be observed by people who had a duty to ensure their ongoing safety."
They don't care about your kids' education, all they want to do is keep them away from you. God help us all.

The DP is proof that the grassroots support for Ron Paul and his peaceful message of individual liberty is large, real, and not going away!
PAY ATTENTION TO THIS!
HELLOOOO!! The judge, Justice H. Walter Croskey, quoted "A primary purpose of the educational system is to train school children in good citizenship, patriotism and loyalty to the state and the nation as a means of protecting the public welfare,"
They, the current people in government office, have no interest in what's best for your child. Their interest is in creating a product that will be useful to their version of society. WAKE THE F UP!!!
Compulsory schooling...
...has ALWAYS had that purpose. It is almost refreshing to see it so clearly laid out in all its sordid glory.

I'm not surprised. The UN
I'm not surprised. The UN went after a family in Germany a year or two ago over the same thing. It's yet another way for the gov't entities to try and brainwash our children into accepting their platforms. If this is true information, you can bet that it will spread across America. Prepare for the battle.

I am actually appalled by this. So now parents do not have the right to teach their own children? The state now own their children?
This is absolutely ridiculous!!!
This has to be fought.
