Neocon new mantra Ron Paul is Insane
Submitted by romesa on Tue, 10/23/2007 - 12:29All of a sudden I've been hearing some "Republicans" say such things as Ron Paul is certifiably insane. I guess we have to get used to this for the rest of the campaign. It appears that anyone who is for peace is insane. Well I'm ready to be committed because I am for peace. I'm against senseless killing. Apparently Bush and Cheney are the most sane people around if these people are correct. Heaven help us.
God Bless Doctor Paul

Libel? Slander?
If that is the case, I hope the official Ron Paul site obtains videos of any such statement made, in official capacity, by anyone on air, and sues them. And their network.
BTW, I logged in earlier and already posted. But my post didn't take? And my login disappeared after about 1 minute. Is anyone else having problems on the forum?
Oops: I found my first entry below. I must have been returned to the old forum... and couldn't find my posts.

Libel? Slander?
Well, all I can say is that I hope the official campaign gets videos of such irresponsible statements and sues anyone who, in an official capacity, makes such a statement over the air. And the network too.

Should work
"[The Supreme Court] determined that in the case of a public official,... the First Amendment rights of free speech and expression outweigh the public official's rights unless the public official can prove that the defendant acted with actual malice. Actual malice means that the defendant who communicates a defamatory statement does so knowing that the statement is false or very likely false. The defendant need not harbor ill will toward the plaintiff for the public official to recover in an action for slander or libel; the public official need only prove that the defendant knew that the defamatory statement was false or had serious doubts as to its truth."

In this case, it's pretty obvious that no one actually believes Ron Paul is insane. I don't see a problem with the case, it should work (legally). Judging if it's a good idea PR-wise is another matter though.
Weak
This is just a weak ad hominem attack with no logical support. Any halfway intelligent person can see through this strategy like a window.
I know he probably wouldn't do this, but I think it would be kind of funny for Ron to volunteer for a routine psychiatric evaluation and have it videotaped. He could walk out of the office with a little piece of paper signed by the doctor and give a thumbs up to the camera. I know it won't happen, but I think it would be a hit with the media and would show his sense of humor.
neocon nonsense

The GOP wants Paul to go 3rd
The GOP wants Paul to go 3rd party....because then he is contained in a box. Thats why "conservative" Media types like Sean Hannity, continue to waste Paul's time with questions like this, trying to typecast(by the questions he asks) Paul to go back to being a second tier guy.
Paul is a threat to the GOP. period. The current GOP loves Govt. period.
Tactics to combat that?
Usually I just ask people why they feel he is insane. Or ask, what crazy things has he done. Most of those comments are from "group speak" (coming from Sean Hannity, Michael Medved, Mark Levin, etc. *note Rush has not really attacked Ron Paul, maybe he just doesn't want to attack a Republican I don't know.)
You need to come from a Republican mindset.. they generally believe.
Iraq and Iran are "full" of al Qaeda.
Muslims (not just jihadist) want to kill us.
We are only doing good things in Iraq. (building schools etc.)
The war is for freedom, not for oil.
If we leave it will be chaos.
You can break down all of that by saying that none of it matters.. all of that can be true (and its not) and it is still not a "just war" that we can morally engage in. The simple reason is the only just war we can be a part of is a war of self-defense. If the nation of Iraq was going to attack us we can attack them, I think is pretty hard for any republican to show now days that Iraq was actually going to attack us. We don't attack nations to spread freedom, we don't attack nations to capture terrorist and other criminals, we don't attack nations to build schools, we attack nations for self-defense exclusively. We need to rename the war on the vague term "terror" into the war on al Qaeda and actually fight people who are a threat to us. Just as our nation fought enemies before without countries like the Barbary Pirates and Blackbeard so can we fight al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden.
definition of insanity
Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results! Ron Paul is the ONLY sane one in the bunch!
And that's all I see as alternatives....
Look at all the other candidates, everyone will keep us in Iraq. Most want to escelate to Iran. All want more big government departments of this and that. Most want more Homeland Security (which basically means, If we give up Freedoms, they'll give us more Security - Hogwash!). This is insanity. I'm really stunned that more Americans aren't thundering down the road to support Ron Paul. Our Nation has really been dummied down. The media crap is working. We can only push on and hope we overcome the significant odds we face. I do think more and more people are coming around and I think the radio ads will work well. Go get 'em Ron!

It will get worse
As I've been saying, I believe we're at an inflection point. Ron Paul has been successful, so it's going to get nastier from here on out.
However, their lame attempts to say Ron Paul is insane can easily backfire since Paul's message is the truth and the neocons are the insane ones. Just pipe back:
The neocon's position is untenable. That's why they're destined to lose next year based on the war issue alone. Truth is on our side. We just have to use it!
Yes
Great post!

This is clear projection
From wikipedia:
"In psychology, projection is a defense mechanism in which one attributes to others one's own unacceptable or unwanted thoughts or emotions."
These neo-con, fearful, aggressive, cowards are the insane ones, they are simply projecting their fearful insanity towards Ron Paul.
Neo-cons are SCARED of liberty.

My Response
Controlling the rhetoric is important, and it's important to do so immediately.
My suggested retort:
No, starting a war with Iran is insane. Ron Paul is the only one that makes sense.
Some phrasing like that would work, as long as you contrast to a bad policy that Ron doesn't support.
No, having a 6 trillion dollar debt is insane, Ron Paul is the only one that makes sense.
LOL, saying $6 billion debt
LOL, saying $6 billion debt would be all the more powerful once they discover it's actually $9 billion
Tillion ;)
Not billion.
trillion
not tillion lol
Damn!
Okay so we can all agree on around 9 Trillion, right? lol
I think the only way to get this much attention
on the issues and wake up this many people was by running as a Repub. Think debates, news coverage etc. The libertarian party get's non of it. I think Dr. Paul knows exactly what he's doing here and I wouldn't rule out the Libertarian angle yet!
Not Yet.....
Every time Paul has been asked, that is the only gray answer he gives.... "I have no plans of doing that"
even if he doesn't run... people will still be getting people to vote for him... If the republican ticket is a throw without him, what does it matter?
