Drugs found in watersheds of 28 areas (AP)
Submitted by lastmovement on Mon, 03/10/2008 - 02:55At least one pharmaceutical or byproduct was detected in testing within the watersheds of 28 major metropolitan areas, according to an Associated Press survey of 62 major water providers and data obtained from independent researchers.
Test protocols varied widely. Some researchers tested for more drugs than others. Thirty-five areas said they tested. Four said tests were negative and three said they were awaiting results. Twenty-seven locations said they had not tested watershed supplies.

Are there any filters that can get rid of most of this stuff at least?
I heard reverse osmosis filters don't work (which is what gov't uses).

Relevance: Ron Paul belives people should be in control of what they put in their body= Paul has authored bills that would allow more medical info,freedom, and allow Raw milk to be sold= Paul encourages people to do own research and to not trust government when it comes to saftey of toys and food (see google interview)=Paul's supporters don't believe the governement can protect their health as good as knowledgeable individuals and this is forum where we are trying to spread ideas such as individualism well past the 08 election ALRIGHT? Paul has said a chance of brokered convention are virtually ZERO. Let us talk about ideas and ways to solve them so that we can protect our children, friends, and family. Is that alright with you? This movement is also about spreading ideas about individualism and limited government. The Governement has now been exposed for not even being able to provide us with clean drinking water. This story here is a perfect example for our movement of whey people shouldn't trust the government.

I read a article that low amounts of sprin in some people cause heart attacks.
Not to mention all the side effects of hormones and metals. Im amazed by the the amount of drugs. How do you explain this?

The chlorine smell
has been so bad here lately.
And I live at the top of the Colorado River tributary system.
If it is in the water here, I can't imagine what it's like downstream.
They have also been reporting increased levels of mercury in the air, and
consequently in the water.
They have also had expanding programs of spraying silver-iodide in the atmosphere, intentionally manipulating weather patterns.
However, we are seeing catastrophic Pine killing, which they say is beetles, but I say, beetles only take advantage of dead and dying trees, so something else is killing them, because the Aspens are dying too, and beatles don't attack Aspens.

I have this filter for my whole house. It is great. More stuff gets absorbed into your body through your skin (your largest organ) then when you drink. You can feel it when you take a shower, seriously. This way everything is covered; shower, drinking and breathing in the fumes off the water as it is running. Before my filter I could smell the chlorine when I ran the shower. I live in Long Island, New York.

Where the real worry is
The levels found in some drinking water was mostly parts per trillion levels. Its not likely that will be harmful, and removing things at those levels will be extremely costly (the FDA allows a maximum of something like 3 fly eggs in a can of vegetables because it is impossible to insure that there are zero. )
Where the real worry is are in levels of some of these things down stream from sewer plants. Both estrogen from Birth control pills, and antibiotics are found in significant levels. No one knows what high levels of hormones will do in the environment, and some would suggest that it already effecting reproduction in small fish. Antibiotics can also be a problem, though I haven't seen anything about the impacts of these.
For all you conspiracy guys, I suppose finding significant levels of compounds from birth control bill down stream from waste treatment plants is interesting, as it speaks to the huge numbers of people using these pills, with some physicians even prescribing them for acne.
It could be that worrying about what is
in the water is more harmful than the "pollutants" themselves.
Parts per trillion of anything is of no significance.

Levels of Estrogen type compounds are greater in sewage effluent. Plus estrogen agonists are very potent, even at low levels.
here is a quote I dug up. - "However, even at low concentrations, these compounds can be extremely potent; less than 1 ng/L EE2 can induce vitellogenin (an egg yolk protein usually associated with adult females) production in male rainbow trout (1, 18), and 4 ng/L caused male fathead minnows to fail to develop normal secondary sexual characteristics (19)."
1 ng/L is a part per trillion.

so I posted this morning under the flouride in the water forum. I agree, it is very alarming. I drink bottled water, but the report said there is no Federal govenment requirement for testing of drugs, so most of the bottled is probabley the same as tap.
