Washington State Ballot Access Reform Bill Dies

Washington state’s HB 1534, which improves ballot access for minor parties and independents, failed to move through the Washington Senate Rules Committee by the deadline, so it cannot pass.

It is tough to pass a bill like this, while the entire state is still waiting for the U.S. Supreme Court decision on its primary process. The case, Washington State v Washington State Republican Party et al, was argued on October 1, 2007, in the U.S. Supreme Court. The Court still hasn’t issued the opinion.

Thats a problem with most

Thats a problem with most bills.

The problem with getting this through

is that we have to sell it to people who think that two parties and their ideals are all the choice we Washingtonians need. Bah!

Washington is chock-full of people who don't vote at all though. This is a major part of getting good bills passed. The *my vote* doesn't count peoples are what's standing in the way of getting some regular human beings into offices currently being held by robotic demo/republi-cats who are perfectly happy to leave it all alone.

We had an "Impeach Bush" bill vaporize on us in this, and the previous, legislative session simply because we "wouldn't have time" this session. :|
