A Good Read

The Executive Order entitled "Blocking Property of Certain Persons Who Threaten Stabilization Efforts in Iraq" provides the President with the authority to confiscate the assets of "certain persons" who oppose the US led war in Iraq:

"I have issued an Executive Order blocking property of persons determined to have committed, or to pose a significant risk of committing, an act or acts of violence that have the purpose or effect of threatening the peace or stability of Iraq or the Government of Iraq or undermining efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform in Iraq or to provide humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people."

In substance, under this executive order, opposing the war becomes an illegal act.

Can you explain

how an administration that can twist the facts to draw us into this quagmire should be trusted with an interpretation of "undermining efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform in Iraq or to provide humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people." when it comes to "blocking my property"?

If not us than who?

Executive Orders

The Constitution says ALL LEGISLATIVE POWER IS IN THE CONGRESS. That means the Executive Branch has none. Executive Orders only apply to members of the Executive Branch. Otherwise, why would we have a Congress? The Dictator would rule by decree.

Also, the Fourth Amendment says that NO PROPERY SHALL BE SEIZED WITHOUT DUE PROCESS OF LAW. Due process of law means going to court. I suggest that anyone who doesn't understand this contact their Congressman and ask them. If the President can make law, what is their function?

Um....

Executive Orders are how-to instructions to carry out the laws the Legislative Branch creates.

They are enforceable because they are law. This E.O. tells the various departments to do their jobs as prescribed by the Congress.

As far as the 4th Amendment goes, that is being handled through the FISA courts.

Court?

Don't count on the Courts to save you.

They have as little respect for the U.S. Constitution as Bush does.

We live today in an era of stolen elections, unratified 16th admendments, Central Bank seizure of our wealth and the destruction of our currency, the mass violence, human carnage, tyranny, and abject bankruptcy of War as 'acceptable' conflict resolution (in fact desirable), the institutionalization of government secrecy and excutive perogative as the de-facto operating law, human torture as formal policy, the loss of due process, haebeus corpus, and your personal property as government policy.

No folks. There is no remedy if they decide to come and get you anymore.
It is gone now ... as it was in Nazi Germany.

The question then is who is going to come and invade America, and overthrow our government, our Military, our Central Bank, and return true freedom back to the people??

The Constitution...

... is just a g-d piece of paper! (bush)

Habeas Corpus...

put to death as given to us in the Military Commissions Act of 2006.

According to the EO...

..they don't even need to give notice OR a determination of actual evidence of guilt. If they say you are guilty you are "guilty", no lawyer, no phone call. You're off to some secret prison:

"there need be no prior notice of a listing or determination made pursuant to section 1(a) of this order." (section 5)

(section 1(a) is the main statement)

Has anyone here heard

of the Hal Turner show, and if so does this guy have any credibility? I am asking because he is putting out information in various places of supposedly leaks of what really went on behind the closed door session. I don't want to start a whole forum on it.

Hal Turner..

.. is a white-supremacist trouble-making idiot.

I have never heard of him before

but saw some very alarming info he had put out about leaks as to what was discussed at the secret session last night. It was not from his site, but put on another one.

suffice it to say

most or all of the GWB EO's are geared toward the same goal...stripping individuals of rights under the pretense of security, during a state of emergency, after a disaster, etc. In fact, he alone can declare a state of emergency whenever he damn well wants and no one can challenge it for 6 months. Just because he's achieved lame duck status doesn't mean he can't still do damage. In fact, we should be extra vigilant right now, as most would assume he won't attempt too much in his remaining time...the perfect time to slip even more dreadful edicts into place.
I predict bad times ahead, possibly in conjunction with any of the proposed freedom marches, or the RNC for that matter...

They can take my house

My house is worth $100,000 less than the loan. I should open my big mouth and let the government have it! Then they can take the loss on it and I can avoid foreclosure!

This is one......

This is one of the EOs that Cheney/Bush will use after the next big False Flag to (right after war with Iran begins -- or just before) please us in those handy Dentention (Toture) Centers.

May God Help us.

Think about what this really means

Bush can take all your properties and assets under the "premise" that you oppose the war.He could just say that everyone opposes the war and steal everyones life savings. This is the real begininning of martial law.

Stop the NWO....It's just illumi..Naughty !

They don't even need to give

They don't even need to give notice OR a determination of actual evidence of guilt:

That was my impression.

That was my impression.

The DP is proof that the grassroots support for Ron Paul and his peaceful message of individual liberty is large, real, and not going away!

War Is "Romantic"

.....interesting that this executive order comes out right now as massive March marches against the war are taking place here and globally with, of course, no media support. And, add this to the asinine recent Bush remarks that war is "romantic" and he wishes he could be on the frontlines...because it sounds exciting. Exciting to blow innocent people up...ruin their infrastructures...take their oil. I don't think any American President in recent times has glorified murder in this manner. Sickening.

Woah... read this again.

...this has nothing to do with free speech, nor criminalizing those that speak against the war. It talks about "acts of violence" that threaten the peace, stability, Iraqi government, economic reconstruction, Iraqi political reform [to a democratic society] or humanitarian efforts.

It also talks about blocking property and money that belongs to people who fund terrorism, and blocking property and money from terrorists.

Free speech does not fall under this directive.

Saying this Executive Order threatens the right of free speech is a good stretch from the intent of this order.

"Certain persons" does not mean Americans who verbally oppose war. It means any person who is a terrorist, or any person that gives money to a terrorist.

If DP has taught me anything, it has taught me to go straight to the source to verify before I get my panties in a wad.

Before you panic, you should read the actual Executive Order...
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/07/20070717-3.html

No where in the order does it even come close to punishing free speech, nor does it limit or define what is acceptable free speech.

its vague

Fortune Favors the Bold

keep in mind, a redefinition of terrorism in an amendement to the patriot act included acts that were destructive to property, or value of property, including values obtained from commercial business. This was used against animal rights protestors who were doing a sit in at a fur store.
With all the vague legislation thats been passed regarding these issues, and there's been a whole lot of it, compounded with the executive orders and lack of oversight, it really does open up the park for the executive branvh to do pretty much whatever it wants. Keep in mind, US intelligence services were pulling this crap when it was strictly, unambigously illegal. Now, they have all this new authority.

Fortune Favors the Bold

Maybe it depends

on what the meaning of "terrorist" is. S1959 broadens the term to deem a terrorist as anyone who speaks against their "status quoe" This EO is probably an extension of HB 1955/ S1959

Alot of people "fund" (unwittingly) various forms of terrorism. It's hard to say who or what your charitable donations actually "fund". As far as I'm concerned my tax $ have funded many terrorist activities that I don't agree with...

This EO cannot be an extention of HR1955/S1959...

...neither of them are laws yet.

Nor does the E.O. make any mention of terrorist, -s, -ism. I used those words to try to explain to these people that this E.O. does not criminalize free speech.

Look at it!

These orders are purposely written in such vague language with nothing concrete. The same president who makes warrantless wiretapping legal is going to excuse anything he wants to do. Sure, he doesn't want violent acts done against this war, but he also wants to crush dissent. That is how power runs - it pumps its propaganda out there to lure public opinion in favor of its deeds, then crushes any competition in the marketplace of ideas, ideas that might actually get people to think. Well, guess what? Now it's too late - over 70% of the population are against this (these) war(s). Even with FEMA camps, how do you lock up 70% of a nation of 300 million? And even if you do that, how do you...

(a) get your precious tax revenue, if everyone's locked away; and/or
(b) have enough people available to draft for your never-ending wars?

OOPS!

These control-freaks are insane! Why don't you just leave us alone? Free us and free yourselves. You have more than enough money and power! Go home and get out of our lives!

Explain..

.. why this order is even needed. It's ALREADY illegal to conspire to or commit acts of violence.

This is not creating a law...

The law was created by Congress. The E.O. directs the departments to put that law to use "at this time." It does not create a new crime, nor does it create new punishments. It simply gives the departments the go-ahead to start using specific Congressional laws.

Sometimes the departments have to wait for budget issues to be resolved before starting/continuing with a program. This is just saying it's ok to allocate money to enforce this particular part of Congressional law.

Not quite true...

Well.. absolutely not true.

"US Presidents have issued executive orders since 1789, usually to help direct the operation of executive officers. Some orders do have the force of law when made in pursuance of certain Acts of Congress, when those acts give the President discretionary powers."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_order_%28United_State...

Notice the DISCRETIONARY POWERS part. And notice the "some orders do have force of law when made in pursuance of certain Acts of Congress". Have you heard of the Emergency Powers Act? The US has been in a formal state of emergency since September 11, 2001.

Tie our state of emergency with the discretionary power granted to the president in the Emergency Powers Acts and then finally tie in the EO's. Tada! Discretionary law-making backed by the force of law.

RESULT: The president can do whatever the hell he wants if we are under a state of emergency (which we are).

=)

Read SR 1955....violence

Read SR 1955....violence redefined.

**the soul would have no rainbow if the eyes had no tears**

This Executive Order has nothing to do with...

..."H".R. 1955 / S. 1959. Neither of which have become law, yet, for the president to use as a definition of "violence."

If you're going to connect the dots, it would help if they're on the same page. Stop trying to pull a tidbit from here and a tidbit from ten miles down the road and make a valid point. The E.O. and H.R. 1955 / S. 1959 are not related in any way shape or form.

It would also help for you to know exactly what a bill is called before referencing it as supporting evidence.

And we wonder why people call us "kooks" and why many (not all) of the most devout RP supporters have abandoned this site.

Violence doesn't matter.

Violence doesn't matter. With regards to the EO under discussion:

They don't even need to give notice OR a determination of actual evidence of guilt:

"there need be no prior notice of a listing or determination made pursuant to section 1(a) of this order."

(section 1(a) is the main statement)

They can just take you off to prison without even saying what you did. No call to your lawyer. No inquiries. Bye bye.

Also, if you read the EO it equates donating money as "violence".
