So, have any states had their state conventions yet?

If so, does anyone know how they've gone?

Yeah, once I saw there were multiple threads...

I thought I might as well post the same thing on each of them, to make sure I don't miss anyone. I know it's kind of a no-no to double post, but oh well!

My summary is very brief, and I am sure someone else is working on a much better article about our successes this weekend. But in my excitement I had to post something on here soon or I would burst. I really am proud of all of the RP delegates and proud of the friendships made and the continued commitment to our mutual cause.

When we met as a group each night after the official proceedings, it was just very special to be in a room full of people of all sorts of backgrounds, but all united in a common love for liberty. It was very inspiring. We have a true coalition, which extends across all boundaries: socio-economic, religious, ethnic, young/old, sourdough/cheechako, and any other boundary. Just looking at the RP group you saw a very impressive level of diversity absent from the rest of the assembled GOP delegates.

No one in the RP group was there on behalf of themselves. They were all there on behalf of the PRINCIPLES we all love and hold dear. I have always said how much RP inspires me. I can also genuinely say how much his supporters, including you and the rest of the national delegates (YAY!) continue to inspire me.

Puppe, there is another thread with ALL the info!!!

"The State Central Committee (the ruling body) promised RP supporters, who represented about 120 out of 357 delegates, that they would bring forth a resolution to the floor that the Alaska Republican Party resolves that Ron Paul be invited to speak at the National Convention, which we will send to the RNC. The resolution was brought forward at the last minute, just before adjournment. The man who brought it forward noted that he was not an RP supporter but then went on to praise RP delegates for their intense interest in the convention and for their participation, then introduced the resolution which passed unanimously on a voice vote."

If more states could do this we could have him speaking at the RNC.

I know sis,

I saw it.

Alaska: We Had MANY Successes

NATIONAL DELEGATES:

Before attending State Convention, our RP2008 Official Field Coordinator, Steve Farrington, assembled a list of 28 RP state delegates who were willing to go to national. This was based on our projected take of 14 delegates and 14 alternates to National. But, due to a chairman who was bound to ignore the rules on delegate allocation, we did not get to send all 28 of these stalwart RP supporters to National.

Instead, Alaska sent 5 regular delegates and 5 alternate delegates to the National Convention. Now, this is way fewer than Mitt or Huck get (38 (19 reg + 19 alt) total between them), BUT there was a victory here. We were guaranteed that all Ron Paul delegates would actually be Ron Paul supporters, and the State Nominating Committee honored their word and chose 10 real true blue RP delegates from our list, which is a victory when you consider they could have just sent 10 old-time GOPers who would be nominally pledged to Paul but would not otherwise be supportive of him.

So, while it was not everything we hoped for, it was good. We had hoped to get 14 Paul delegates, based on the AK rules that say a candidate who is not actively running forfeits their delegates, who then are reassigned proportionately to active remaining candidates. That would have meant 14 Paul and 12 McCain delegates (plus an equal number of alternates), but alas, the AK GOP was determined to disobey their own rules and so what is is what is.

RESOLUTION REGARDING RON PAUL:
The State Central Committee (the ruling body) promised RP supporters, who represented about 120 out of 357 delegates, that they would bring forth a resolution to the floor that the Alaska Republican Party resolves that Ron Paul be invited to speak at the National Convention, which we will send to the RNC. The resolution was brought forward at the last minute, just before adjournment. The man who brought it forward noted that he was not an RP supporter but then went on to praise RP delegates for their intense interest in the convention and for their participation, then introduced the resolution which passed unanimously on a voice vote.

STATE PARTY PLATFORM:
The Alaska Republican Party platform is practically the Ron Paul platform now. RP supporters put forward, and enacted, a number of significant platform planks. A few died in committee, but most made it to the floor and were passed near unanimously or unanimously.

Among the things the Alaska Republican Party now believes:
* Abolishing the IRS, income taxes, gift taxes, estate taxes, and capital gains taxes
* Abolishing the federal Dept. of Education
* Jury Nullification
* Opposition to REAL ID
* Opposition to judicial activist judges
* and others that I know I am forgetting

We did not pass our planks supporting industrial use of hemp, or admitting counselors-at-law in State courts, or a last minute plank suggesting that no judges be permitted to belong to the CFR or Masons, but otherwise I think every platform change or resolution brought forward by RP delegates passed.

Overall, the GOP establishment were impressed with the RP delegates. We were a sizable force, about 120 of the 357 seated delegates. They appreciated our participating and several of our delegates were fantastic in their roles on the State Central Committee and as District Chairs, that even the establishment was wowed. We were not a group of pot-smoking hippies like they expected, but rather a diverse crowd of sincere, committed Alaskans who want to make the GOP stronger and make America and Alaska stronger.

Overall it was a very successful convention. I was pleased to participate and I look forward to RP delegates being a solid majority at the next State Convention in 2 years.

RP2012!

This part is amazing!

Alaska finished theirs

last night.My brother in law
was elected to go to the national
convention!Yes,he's all Ron Paul.My sister was supposed to
do a post on here but she hasn't done it yet.

Question for the brother in law

Does he have a way to contact the other delegates -- particularly those pledged to other candidates? It would be nice if he could send them some information such as this about McCain: http://www.wcltam.com/news/special/articledetail.cfm?article... A well chosen link to Dr. Paul speaking on economic issues would also be helpful (nothing stressing his opposition to the war, preferably.)

Every non-RP delegate from Alaska

has already received a special DVD with some good stuff on McCain and some great speeches from Ron Paul. Also, a few hundred anti-McCain DVDs were circulated and dispersed throughout the assembled delegates at the convention. :-)

RP2012!

Sorry, didn't mean to steal her thunder

I was just so excited. Besides, I am sure she will write a much more elegant and eloquent post than mine, which I hurriedly finished just to get something out there. I am very excited at what we accomplished. The night of Feb 5th I was feeling mighty down when we did not do as well as hoped in the public vote. I contrast that with this weekend, when following the conclusion of the State Convention, I am very optimistic.

RP2012!

awesome!

Fortune Favors the Bold

sounds like there's a chance we'll get RP to speak at the convention!
