Cali, Gold, weird regulations starting!!!
Submitted by bigsurjune on Tue, 03/18/2008 - 02:38Anybody on here from California?
A coworker informed me today that he sent some cash to his dad to buy more gold and the shop owner told him that it's now illegal to accept cash for gold coins. The owner elaborated, he said that for now on only check or debit card would be accepted.
In addition, he said in a few months that you won't be able to buy or sell any gold in the state of California without the Real ID.
Can anyone here confirm this?
I live in Japan so it's a little difficult but I'm dying to know.
If all this is true then things are getting down right creepy....

Wrong
Federal reserve notes must be accepted for all debts, public and private. It's called the legal tender law, passed by Congress. Because of the legal tender laws, it is illegal to refuse payment in frn, and demanding gold.
Cali?
Cali?
Nobody in *Cal* calls it that. (-: inside joke :-)
Almost everybody in California either spells it out or uses CA.
"Cali" feels wierd and reminds us of forgotten cousins.

Hmmm, let me get this straight...
You can legally order gold and silver directly from the U.S. Mint...in fact they continually offer new products like that First Spouse Dolley Madison gold coin...and yet the govt. will want to confiscate that back when the depression hits? Seems to me the govt. is rather inconsistent with what it wants to do in controlling people. You'd think they'd outright ban all sales of gold and silver rather than letting us buy it only to take it back from us. What's going on??

What's going on!?
You are not catching on--that's what is happening. The economic crash is what is going on. I'll bet you are one of the people who still doesn't believe in the North American Union or the NWO.
One day you will my friend...one day you will.....

Wait a minute, Gilgamesh, I
Wait a minute, Gilgamesh, I know about all that already. I just asked why the U.S. Mint would still be offering gold and silver, even new products of it, for direct sale to the public yet the govt. plans to confiscate it later during the crash?? Does that make sense? Why doesn't the govt. just skip a step and just shut down the U.S. Mint online ordering of products and make it illegal to buy, knowing there'll be (or that the Fed is causing) a crash and they don't want us to have any real wealth so they can control us? What gave you the impression that I was naive to all the authoritarianism going on around us? I just asked a question about method, that's all.
Or, are U.S. Mint products including American Eagles & Buffalos all fakes? Fool's gold? Anyone ever had their U.S. coins assayed?

UPDATE from California...I
UPDATE from California...
I just called both a very large and also a smaller dealer. The large one would be expected to know all the ins and outs and their expert said he had not heard anything like that to his knowledge. Their site is golddealer.com. The smaller shop also says nothing is required to buy. They accept cash or check, however, their local police dept. has requested they do get an ID when the person is selling, and that's on anything not just gold/silver. That info just sits in the shop until police may request it, unless over 10K which would be reported. So... it doesn't appear anything is going on here.
On a related note, though, my state really is moving toward computer ID for people in general. I have to renew my driver's license, and it will require a thumbprint. I remember voting awhile back on a DNA database for criminals. I believe I voted against it, although it sounded like a good idea on the surface. I believe it passed.
coin shops not taking cash?
coin shops not taking cash? not likely.
Gold
Here in Canada, one can now only buy or sell 3 ounces of gold without ID. A few months ago it was 10 ounces.
Craigslist
Has anyone bought/sold privately using craigslist.org?
craigslist
craigslist is awesome! lot of great deals on there. not so much with gold or silver, but getting cheap or free appliances on there has saved me a ton on my rentals.
Not yet
Keep looking but only ads for buying. Thinking about putting my own buy ad in. Anyone else try it out? Ebay has been my way so far besides pawn shops and such.
CA doesn't even have real ID yet! I live here and checked
google, and was shocked to find out we WILL have real ID in Sept. 1, 2009. YIKES. Thought I had more time......So perhaps your friend would need it if he sold after that date? But shouldn't need it now cause IT DOESN"T EXIST NOW!!!
CA kind of does, I think :P
I'm not entirely sure about the details of this, but, I do believe that CA is "Real ID-compliant" so far, with the drivers' licenses. See this (from the CA DMV website)
“By working with key governmental entities and other stakeholders, California has started preparations to address the impacts of REAL ID,” said DMV Director George Valverde. “California currently meets certain aspects of REAL ID requirements such as Social Security number verification. We’re in better shape than many other states.”
I have heard that CA doesn't need to "worry" (meaning, be concerned about missing out) about getting a Real ID, because the CDLs will serve that very purpose until the official Real ID cards are issued. Oh joy.
Great state to start with the Real ID / driver's license combination. Who in CA (especially So Cal) doesn't drive?!?

Great idea!
I'll check to see if San Diego has one...These guys need to know we won't put up with this anymore.
I think I'll buy some silver in NH today, see what happens.
I'll ask questions also. It's good to know our government is looking after us...
New Hampshire and Ecuador.
Its the Un-Patriotic act SECTION 352
Please read up on these. I couldn't find a single thing in Real dumb ID, but the Un-Patriotic act has this to say.

I'm in California... just
I'm in California... just waking up - it's 7:30am ;) I bought some more silver eagles yesterday cash from my local shop and had no problems (didn't ask again about gold). Give me an hour and a half to let the shops open and I'll do some more checking and report back...
Here in PA
where Real ID is under fire and still up in the air as far as state fighting back.
I went to coin shop on Monday, bought junk silver (pre 1964 coins), paid cash, and end of that transaction - $1k.
When I asked about selling it back to him, he said anything over $1k would have to be reported to IRS. He also said, any amount he buys, he would require a copy of drivers license to attach to the receipt, and he said that was thanks to the Patriot Act.
Any links to find out about
Any links to find out about what states that have yet to accept real id?
There is one
but can't find it.
The only two states to officially reject the Real ID are S. Carolina and Montana. (there may have been a third - not sure - MAY have been Alaska) Others asked for extensions and money to facilitate. Others are still on the fence so get out there an fight! Email your legislators TODAY!
In PA there was a huge meeting w/govt. officials and they got another legislator to sign on the opposition of it.
More hearings planned in the state and I will attend the one closest to me soon.
I'm changing my name
to Dale in Montana in a few years. :O)
Anyone know what it takes for an Oklahoma Pharmacist to be able to work in Montana? Got to start steering the wife to getting ready for the North. But then after all the coming changes Montana might even be Ocean-front property, or at least nice and warm..who knows..LOL
All you should need to do
is pass the MT pharmacist exam to get the license, then get employed and you should be fine--then you'll be licensed to be a legal drug dealer in MT! :)
Cali probably just now waking up
But I'm very interested in hearing from CA residents regarding this matter.
IRS won't take them either
They require check, m.o., or credit/debit card. Say "their agents can't accept cash".
