The IL GOP has intentionally set an early deadline (April 1st) for Republican County Chairman (ward and township committeemen in Cook) to submit their list of delegates for the State Republican Convention held June 6 & 7 in Decatur. There will be TEN more Presidential delegates (for the National Convention) elected by the state convention delegates---YOU can be a State Convention delegate! There are literally hundreds of delegate vacancies that can be filled.
The evolution of the Ron Paul Revolution is sweeping the country as Ron Paul’s supporters are having astonishing successes at state and county level GOP conventions

Very last day to call!!

Deadline upon us: April 1
URGENT: All RP supporters in Illinois can contribute to positive change by contacting their local Republican Party chairmen and requesting to be seated as delegates to the Illinois Rep. Party Convention in Decatur in June 6-7. By expressing your interest in becoming active in the Republican Party (w/o mentioning RP), you may actually be chosen to represent your area and vote on party platform issues. At the very least, you'll be contributing to shaking up the Republican Party, which has strayed widely from its roots. E-mail or call your party head TODAY. You never know how your actions will affect things for the better in Illinois and beyond. NOW IS THE TIME:
Rep. Ward Committeemen (Chicago only): http://chicagogop.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=sect...
Cook County Township Committeemen (outside Chicago): http://www.cookrepublicanparty.com/townshipcommitteemen/
Republican County Chairmen: http://www.championnews.net/article.php?sid=869
Informative.
Don't give up, keep knocking at the door.
UPDATE
Well, I think I may have secured a position...
Unfortunately, there were 8 positions in my ward and apparently they've all been taken up, however, I talked to a guy on the phone who was pretty nice and he's got some good connections to political allies, etc.
Anyways, since I'm 18, and new to the party and expressed so much enthusiasm he's offered to get me a spot in a different ward to attend the state convention. He also offered through his connections to pay for my transportation and hotel room.... so that's kind of awesome.
HOWEVER, I also wrote a letter to be considered as one of the 10 remaining delegates for the national convention. He told me I basically had no chance in hell because those are given to prominent politicians, and he's right.... but guess what? I wrote the letter anyways and sent it off, and unless they just are biased and throw me off, they have to put me on their ballot. And as long as you're on the ballot there's the potential that you could win... especially when there's a good bunch of Paul supporters voting for you.
update again
Well I e-mailed the guy and tried to take him up on his offer and still haven't heard back from him.... I'm guessing I lost my chance...
Try calling him.
Sounds like he was willing to go above and beyond for you. I'd be surprised if he reneged on that offer.
I tried and it didn't go well.
I went into the 43rd ward in Cook County/ Chicago on Wednesday and politely asked if I could become a delegate. The good old republican who was there got up and asked who I was and what qualifies me to be a delegate. I told him my name and that I have always voted republican and I want to become more involved. I didn't mention RP and thought that it was in my best interest not to. After all, they had every other candidates sign on the walls but Ron Paul. He told me that it's about who you know and that if I didn't work for the local ward committeman's election that I wouldn't be allowed to be a delegate. I told him that wasn't fair and right and he then asked me what I sold. He could tell that I was in sales and I said Real Estate. He said you can't just start selling real estate without relationships. And since I didn't know the right people I wasn't allowed to just become a delegate.
He handed me a paper with the ward guy's gay picture with him and George Bush and told me that maybe I could be an alternate. Talk about a big fat Neocon! I'm trying some other routes, but not sure if this is going to happen. I'll let you know if I can get in... Illinois has the biggest most corrupt Republican machine in the country from what I'm finding out.
Ron Paul is really making us all look at politics at every level. For me, it's no longer just about RP, it's about change everywhere.
"He told me that it's about who you know
"He told me that it's about who you know and that if I didn't work for the local ward committeman's election that I wouldn't be allowed to be a delegate."
Amazing someone can say this with a straight face. Don't they realize that's precisely what turns most people off to politics? Guess they don't call it the "good old boys network" for nothing! Good effort! If it's any consolation, others do seem to be having better luck . . .
I know...
yeah, you just think it can't happen to you. I thought I would walk in and it would be cool. oh well, maybe there's another way. I'll know tomorrow.
Great, great, great job!
I hope to see you in Decatur as well!

Hey McCain-----┌П┐(◣_◢)┌П┐
keep this on top
we need all the delegates we can get
One question:
Is this by invitation only?
If not, just show up, people. Sometimes, the calls gets overwhelming and everything gets mixed up making them sound like you're being given the run-around. Just go if pre-registration is not required.

By all means go regardless, BUT
if you want to be considered for a state delegate position, with voting privileges, you MUST be appointed by your county chairman. Deadline is April 1.
I e-mailed my ward committee
I e-mailed my ward committee woman... no response yet....
I also sent a letter requesting to be considered for one of the last 10 delegate positions for the national convention.

I Called ...
I called the County Chairman in Coles County Illinois and asked when the next local GOP meetings were (since they weren't posted on the website). He told me that there was to be a meeting on April 22. I then queried him on whether or not there were any delegate seats left for the state convention, mentioning that I was interested in attending. And he said that this is exactly what that meeting was going to be about. He had talked to people and NO ONE was interested in going. He said there were about 8-10 seats left. We can do this people!
I'll be going to the meeting, maybe a little undercover posing as a concerned conservative that doesn't like McCain (but hasn't ever heard of Ron Paul before). If you're from around there, feel free to contact me for more details on the GOP meeting. It's very imperative to attend!
That's great! Only thing is . . .
Word is the deadline to submit names of state delegates to Andy McKenna, GOP chair in IL, is April 1. Could this dude be giving you the run around? Or, is he not aware of that deadline? Or, is someone mistaken about the deadline? Read this http://www.championnews.net/article.php?sid=873.
Not sure
He asked if I was with the College Republicans, and I said that I had been my first 2 years here at school, but due to time constraints I couldn't keep attending meetings. I dropped the name of the President at the time when I was in it (she's since graduated), and I'm sure he's met me before when I helped do some canvassing a couple years ago.
He may be giving me the runaround ... nothing I can really do about it if he is, as the county chair can basically decide everything. He seemed genuine while I talked to him. Said that NO ONE wanted to be a delegate. I didn't mention anything about RP and don't plan on it (until the state convention, or at least find some other supporters and see what's going on!).
Keeping mum about RP probably good
You might want to ask him if he's heard anything about this April 1 deadline. That date was obtained from a group/individual not necessarily supportive of RP, yet interested in maximum participation at the state convention. They don't want grassroots Republicans disenfranchised.
Yes..call again say u heard
Yes..call again say u heard deadline was 4/1..call your state GOP HQ as well (should be in the capitol city's phone book...)
Great Job
If I lived in IL, I'd be right there with ya! :-)
Hey Illinois! Have you called yet?
Please report any progress in being appointed a state delegate to Scott at ronpaulillinois at gmail.com. Thanks!
I called
the Kane County Gop Office, and got no answer. I left a message with my number, and told them that I was interested in becoming a delegate, or if that was no longer an option, then attending the convention as a citizen. I am yet to get a return call.
