Truckers Strike.

I know this is off topic but has anyone heard that Truckers nation wide are possibly striking because of the high gasprices on the first of April. If so they could really disrupt things. » |

Truckers strike, businesses close, students absent, workers sic
A "STRIKE FOR TRUTH & JUSTICE" is a wonderful idea. It would send a STRONG message of "non-cooperation" and "civil resistance" alright !!!
To be effective...it would need to be observed by a large cross-section of the population. In fact...as I see the world as a whole waking up, it may very well become a popular idea across the planet.
*** Afterall...if "anti-FARC" organizers can get millions of people worldwide to march on one particular day...we should be able to get hundreds of millions to do so for the future freedom of mankind.
Marches...Boycotts...Concerts...Meetings...Services.

I have not heard of a trucker's strike particularly, but April 15, 2008 will be the Great American Strike in peaceful protest of the IRS and Federal Reserve.

... strikes and protests are SUPPOSED to be disruptive.
Why do current Americans when confronted with the idea of strike, protest or march get all upset about being nice and well-mannered and not causing any "trouble" and then whimper about being called names by the Old Media?

I agree...we should not worry about "not disrupting things" as this is the point to any protest-particularly a strike.
However, we MUST disrupt things Peacefully.
We must peacefully go on strike.
We must peacefully petition.
...if we do not do it that way, and we are disruptive in a violent/agressive mannor, then we will have another Kent State problem on our hands.
Peaceful protest is the ONLY way to get our messege accross...we MUST disrupt things, but only in a Peaceful mannor-hence the purpose of the strike.

Agreed...
.. non-violent but disruptive.
Violence would lower us to their level. At the same time non-disruptive gets ZERO attention.
For a long
time diesel was cheaper than gas. I guess they figured they could back door us by reaming the truckers, so consumers wouldn't pay much attention.
All the while consumers were getting double screwed because a large portion of the diesel price increase was being transfered to the consumer.

Here's The Scoop
*Independents and Union Drivers will mainly be the striking drivers
*Dedicated drivers have largely been told if they participate they will be fired 4/2 Many dedicated outfits just won't load on 4/1 to avoid the strike mess. Dead-heading (driving empty) home already is basically not allowed at present cost so if you are out and get a load you must drive to aviod firing.
* Diesel is at $3.90 give or take Nationwide
* At $5.00 for Diesel the trucks either can't run or the driver's would have to be replaced by cheaper labor (Mexican?) At any rate they see jobs ending soon since Diesel will hit $5.00 before regular gas hits $4.00
*Truckers understand that cost of Diesel is due to inflation caused by Federal Reserve NOT OPEC or lack of supply (Go Trucker's...apparently been talking about it on radio to radio rather than watching FAUX news/they get it)
* The point is to tell Government to lay off with the inflation that will soon put them out of a job.

Please watch the videos on how the IRS and Federal Reserve are the ones responsible for the increase in ALL costs and ask the truckers to join the April 15th strike...
If there are enough of them to make a difference in their 4/1/08 strike, then sure...but we NEED people to be part of the April 15 strike, and truckers are definately a large part of that.
It seems that you may know how to contact the truckers...if so, please take the info I posted above and ask the truckers to join the April 15 strike (whether or not they choose to also do their own thing on 4/1/08 or not...)

Hate to piss folks off, but...
...there shouldn't be near so many long-haul truckers in the first place. If market forces were truly allowed to operate, the vastly greater efficiency and safety of rail freight would dominate.
PS I don't know if any of you have been on Eastern I-40 in the middle of the night but the 18-wheelers flying down the road at 95 mph in the dark are just death waiting to happen. Maybe the scariest driving situation I've ever been in.

Railway service is great, and cheaper than trucking. Unfortunately the reason your observation does not hold water is due to the fact that so many individual products have to be shipped to small town USA and have to be trucked in when the train stops. Trucks do drive fast and they are in retrospect in their offices trying to get their job done like anyone that is 9-5, only they drive 10 hours per day, many times weeks at a time. It would be great if the railways reached every American city, or even 1/4th of towns in the US. A fact that can be backed up is that if semi's stopped going into New York for 48 hours most produce, and general necessities would be cleared off the shelves, unimportant luxuries such as toilet paper, tooth paste, feminine products, shampoos, fruits, and many more, just in New York. So while train transit is cheaper it can not by any stretch of the imagination handle the load and delivery that the truck driver can, they are the true heart beat of America.

...without socialized roads, more extensive rail networks would arise because they'd be far more market-competitive. I am not saying there would be no trucking, but that trucking would, at most, be a few hundred miles. Not the thousands some truckers cover now.

The other issue with rails
The other issue with rails blount other than not being at every city, is that the facilities to handle the traffic is already seriously bottlenecked.
I think it is somewhere in Texas or New Mexico as well as a point farther north there is so much intermodal traffic that the facilities can't handle it. Intermodal shipments form China have increased over 500% since 2000.
The class 1 railroads , Union Pacific, CSX, Norfolk Southern and BNSF have been selling off the little spurs to podunk and medium populated cities.
I agree, rail is such an economically feasable and less wasteful mode of transportation. Unfortunately they are running pretty much at capacity.
If we didn't have...
...socialized roads, rail would be able to compete fairly in the market. The reason rail is failing is because it is cheaper to use taxpayer-funded roads to transport your freight than building and maintaining your own rail to do it.

Marches are good and all, but if we REALLY want heard, we need to pick one day and get really serious about NO money changes hands that day. We would have to campaign for it like we do for Ron if we want to have an impact, but I think Americans are more open to this kind of thing with each passing day!

I thought that was the whole idea behind the Tax Day Strike on April 15th. I thought the march was just an addition and something to do while striking to let everyone know why taxpayers were striking.
