A sincere question ,something I've always wondered

This is just so I can understand if you would be so kind as to give me your insight.
Why do people feel the need to pick sides ? republican, democrat, liberal , conservative, socialist, libertarian ? What's the point really ?
Some follow the left wing some follow the right wing , If this was a hockey game I'd wanna be the freakin goalie.
What happened to just plain right and wrong ?
Killing is wrong , peace is right
living on debt is wrong , living within your means is right
arrogance is wrong , being humble is right
Taking care of people is right , stealing their purpose is wrong
Is it just me or to quote Dr Paul " Have we all lost our way ?"

There is no Constitutional provision for political parties.
The Federalist Papers (the written intent of the framers of the Constitution) forbid the creation of political parties as they invite faction. Dr. Paul knows it would be extremely difficult to run for political office as an independent so he selected the Republican party. The GOP's philosophies and ideals advocate a smaller and less restrictive government.
Re: killing. The ultimate objective of war is it's opposite: Peace.

And that's the point. stop choosing sides and just do what you know is the right thing. As a goalie ( from my current metaphore ) I stand in front of the net knowing that people are going to shoot at me but I know that the net behind me is mine to protect and mine alone. Noone is going to help me protect this net are they? When push comes to shove it's all on me.

Human nature
I've come to believe that it is human nature to classify.
You have white socks and black socks, and they are different. Pants are different than shoes, and both are considered clothing.
In the same way, people seek to find order in the political process and want to define everyone's views into little bottles.
As another poster mentioned, knowing what is right doesn't mean that you know how to deal with what is right.
A "free" education sounds wonderful, until you realize the economic truth that there is no free lunch.
It is the answers to these social problems, and the POLIcies that are attached that dictate POLItics.
There is also the growing philosophy that there IS no right or wrong, no absolute morality. This ideology is becoming mainstream and causes issues.
A very abstract answer, but hopefully it was insightful.

There really isn't much grey area there ? Any reasoning only becomes an excuse to make doing the wrong things seem okay.

Its a matter of identity
People like to define themselves. That's why I call myself a libertarian. It just fits with my entire outlook on life: live and let live. The problem with just plain right and wrong is that that it doesn't address solutions. For instance, we can all agree that poverty isn't desirable. The question is: what can be done about it? I happen to agree with the logic that the free market works best and is the most moral solution. Others choose Marxism. This seems to be more a matter of personal preference and trust in the state. Or maybe upbringing is more the answer. In any case, what we seem to have today are several generations of people who believe that they are entitled to the earnings of others. They wouldn't put it in those terms, but its what they believe. This is evidenced by the new rights to healthcare and schooling. And the Federal Reserve System that, as we all know, squanders personal savings through the inflation tax.

Isn't this when we become too involved in popularity ? My father always told me growing up that if it's popular it's probably bad for you and believe me as a musician I understand that better than most. Even popular music has become completely mindless.

But what is popular
is typically also profitable. Especially when it comes to mindless pop music. The producers make a fortune. Political ideologies are a bit more complicated as there is not often such a payoff. In college, liberalism and progressivism reigned on my campus. Popular because everyone was doing it. In that case, we have a herd mentality and people just want to fit in. In my case, I found a few good friends to help me along in my libertarian thinking. Not many of us want to think very hard about what we believe. We employ heuristics. Mental short-cuts that assist us in making decisions. A political philosophy can serve as such a heuristic.

I mean please the whole thing was insulting. They fired two people ? as if that was contained to two people ? I'm not into Obama but the point is that it's just another lie. It never stops and people are going to blindly accept what they are being told because they just don't have the capacity to question anything.
The reason i used this as an example is because Obama is popular. Why ? I have no freakin idea. He has almost 800,000 just on facebook.People are nuts !

Questioning takes an effort
There's a lot to life. Work, kids, school, deciding what's for dinner, etc, etc, etc. I guess questioning doesn't always work itself into the plan. If it does, its just a passing observation. No action is taken because there's not much you can do. Write the State Department, maybe?
And I've been questioning Obama for awhile. One of my Myspace friends who I've known from High School is into the guy. I tried to ask why, but she just didn't want to discuss it. She used the "I don't question your beliefs, so why are you attacking mine?" line. Which I gave into since she's been pretty cool otherwise. I just don't get the appeal.

I don't know how else it can be explained.
When a politician lies enough about something, he starts believing it himself. And when someone believes in what they are saying, people can sense their convictions and it attracts them to the message being told.

Yes they have been, Media has dictated what we eat, how we sleep, what we wear, How patriotic we are, and basically everything else we know as the "truth" since the day we were born. Do you really think that without Media people would accept the idea that we can go overseas and just kill people without remorse ?
I also blame the people who make video games for desensitizing children to killing.in the virtual world you can go around with various weapons trying them out on helpless "life like" avatars for hours thinking this is fun!

The right and left has been created to make us believe we have a choice because the reality is we don't have a choice. It is chosen for us. It is called social engineering. You are right. It should be about right and wrong. That would be God's way. However this system is in opposition of God in the fight for our soul. That explains the evil. Always do what is right and what comes from the heart.
