This type of protesting is a waste of time.

... the intent of a protest is to BE disruptive.
The protesters were breaking the law in that they were "blocking traffic" and "disturbing the peace".
"Civil disobedience" MEANS you break the law in a disruptive manner with the full expectation you may go to jail. The idea is to have enough people protesting that you overwhelm the ability of law enforcement to cart them away in paddy wagons.
Any other kind or level of protest is useless and gets nobody's attention at all.
The police were dragging the protesters around and arresting them and that was the protesters intention. There just wasn't enough of the protesters willing to be dragged around and arrested. Not enough of us are out there doing it yet for it to be effective.
Now, if 10,000+ people were in every major city's downtown blocking traffic in the central business districts then THAT would make a statement and it would take them hours and hours and hours to cart them all away and they would run out of paddy wagon and jail space...

For future protests:
Just like the protestors in this crowd remained Peaceful, do NOT become violent, even if the police are agressive.
Use your voice instead.
Remind the "officers" that this is their country too...remind them that they are on-tape for the world to see. Remind them...
While you explain things to them, try to keep your cool-regardless of the situation.
...or we could make a bad situation worse.

The ONLY way that we can survive is to be Peaceful.
No matter how many arms we think we have, they will ALWAYS have more.
No matter what kind of technology we think we have to protect/defend ourselves, they will ALWAYS have something newer/better.
The ONLY way to win against this is to Peacefully educate each other.
Changing people's minds is the only way that we can win...we cannot do it through fighting.
Martin Luther King Jr., for example, he spent his time in jail, but look at what he was able to do!
If he had become violent, then the cops would have been even more violent with black peole and they would never would have accepted the change to seeing them as equal. ONLY as a result of constant Peace, against all-odds allowed them to prevail, and it is what we must do today.
We must educate people-quickly.
Violence cannot teach anyone anything, it can only lead to more violence. So instead of fighting, try passing on the following links:
