Listening to this guy speak

Listening to this guy speak gave me flashbacks of public school. This is the kind of socialist crap that teachers spew all across America's public school system. Just another reason to get rid of public schools. It took many years for me to overcome the brainwashing inflicted upon me by the NYC dept of education.

I need to give this critical warning

I posted this soundbite here for a very important reason and I don't mean to be disrespectful toward anyone. I have noticed lately on many forums on this site how fast some of us react to key words and yet miss the big picture. We've been manipulated for so long we have a hard time to hear something if some words are part of the context. We are reacting to words more than to context and we are failing to appreciate different points of view.

In a free society with our liberty secure, we will need to integrate with many different opinions. The precious thing about this is that the collective has wisdom, a lot more than the individual. Think about this for a moment. If we are to embrace our liberty in a society we want to rebuild where the government is reduced to safeguarding our constitutional rights we must be able to live with each other and respect each other's opinions and compromise.

There will be no government to take care of our decisions, no mainstream media manipulating our ideas or so I'd hope. Therefore it will be essential to arrive at our own conclusions by reading newspapers and books and search videos, etc. The reason we got here is exactly because we left it ALL to Congress and the Executive to take care of everything because we didn't want to be bothered.

Are we sure we are not just waiting for Ron Paul to take office and then go back to our old ways and letting him figure it all out? I'm sorry but I'm not convinced that we are not as a people.

Read your own replies here and be open and honest with yourselves. You may see a lot that needs to change and this is what I was driving at. Ron Paul ALWAYS mentions that he cannot and will not be able to accomplish much IF people won't change their ways. We must be able to make that commitment or we are all fooling ourselves here.

Michael Parenti and Noam Chomsky are great thinkers and political scientists with tons to add to our understanding. We don't have to agree or disagree, we just need to open our minds and expand our horizons. We must be willing to compromise if we want to build a better society. We will end up having some socialist protections. Expect that. Ron Paul doesn't deny this. We are a society, a nation of people with different views.

We can't be self-righteous and arrogant and yet be willing to change our ways. That won't happen and we will be right back into fascism!

The stakes are very very high and one way or another we will have to be more open to different ideas instead of being always afraid of what's different. That's what gets us in trouble every time! Please think about it.

Love,

J.

Well there once was a country which embraced national socialism. It was Nazi Germany.

Parenti is dead wrong about so much. I was saying it nicely before but I guess you still want to share this country with the constitutionalists. We are no longer interested in sharing this country with any form or measure of socialism whether it be communist or fascist. It remains stealing from some to give to others. Redistribution of wealth is completely contrary to freedom. Completely contrary to our constitution and completely contrary to Ron Paul. Pull your head out and wake up. No more theft by our government is acceptable. No More.

To borrow your own summation:

"That's what gets us in trouble every time."

in love, Dave

..Without the truth we have nothing

Noam Chomsky..

I wrote a letter to him a few months ago. He replied, and the letter was really insightful. Big fan of his. Just wondering if I should write back, see who he would support. Obviously not any CFR member, and I'm sure Ron Paul's non-interventionist policy would go down REAL swell.. shame though, if RP gets into power, Noam will pretty much be out of a job. :P

That sounds fascinating...

Minor celebrities, especially this variety of "intellectual" celebrity, are worth courting. I don't know if he's principled enough not to vote for a Democrat, though, because he really wants bigger, not smaller, government from all I've seen. But please, prove me wrong!!! :) It's definitely worth exploring.
JMR

Hey.

Yea I've heard the bigger government argument, leveled at him before. Maybe I haven't seen any of his recent works, or could you point me in some direction on his site / articles he's written where he advocates bigger government? thanks.

Well, in foreign policy, he's for smaller government

But all his domestic positions over the years seem to be with bigger government, unless I'm mistaken, although like all professors he's in the business of being hard to pin-down. The best stuff would probably be in the area of health care, or maybe taxpayer-support of universities, but on: http://www.chomsky.info/articles/199711--.htm he puts government funded health care in a comparison with military spending. No matter how you feel about war, "the united States shall maintain a Navy" is in the constitution, but there's nothing about government funded health care at all, and some of us simply want lower spending on BOTH. I doubt Noam agrees with me on such domestic spending, and "protect the children" health care is probably a problem area. But let's see if he can be pinned-down this time -- I have hope.

I couldn't get far enough to

I couldn't get far enough to hear the whole thing, but I got far enough to hear outright Marxist dogma. The guy probably styles himself something like an anarcho-syndicalist. He's stupid enough to talk about how awful the idea of the "state" is, but then asserts that "the people" take over the "private sector" and handle these things in the "public sector". What does he think "public" refers to!? A state! A state by any other name is still a state!

That speaker completely

That speaker completely misses the mark and is really in the business of promoting lies and misunderstanding. I don't know if he believes what he is saying or not but it's hard to imagine he would be able to edit his characterizations so consistently away from accuracy by pure happenstance.

The "superpatriots" as he calls them are simply fooled into believing our government people and our government are the same thing. Fooled into trusting our media to alert them in any circumstance of real and significant internal danger or threat. Our government people or officials either appointed or elected have in large part betrayed their primary trust: to defend the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. His "Superpatriots" simply have not yet realized that.

Our government, as opposed to our government officials, is simply our constitution. This textualized ideal is what every patriot or superpatriot presumably is willing to give their life for. It may well prove true that the more "super" a patriot is the less well informed they are of the contents and purpose of the constitution. Perhaps this is what the speaker wanted to say all along.

There will always be enemies to our constitution, sometimes unfortunately they arise within our own ranks and these are the most dangerous kind. Today we have in our federal government and just as significantly in our traditional media a massive infestation of enemies

...which if their full breadth of numbers and stations were in one moment of time revealed to the nation...

would astonish most "superpatriots" into a literal state of shock and physical incapacity leaving them staggered and dumbfounded for many days or perhaps indefinitely.

Our country as we know it is in grave danger and time is short. I truly believe if Ron Paul fails his bid we all lose our best and only opportunity to restore our constitution in a way which preserves any measure of domestic tranquility.

What the heck?

What was the purpose of this? He disses Ronald Reagan...
This is definitely socialist propaganda.
Why did you post this here? See he says 'we on the left' want democratization.

Nuh uh! Whew...this is about as anti-Paul as you can get.

Interesting first half...

but he goes socialist near the end. His defining of the "super-patriot" I found insightful. This is the first half of the lecture and worth listening to. The last bits he gets excited about moving things like health care, broadcasting, and utilities from private to public (i.e. government) control. The government will never distribute fairly or efficiently. Why do intellectuals fall such easy prey to socialist tendencies? They want to sit on the same throne as militarists and fascists, ruling with the same tools except proclaiming it to be for social justice. It's still oppression, and it won't work.

Those socialist

Those socialist intellectuals are idealists like you and me. However, their ideals gloss over human nature. Libertarians are more realistic about human nature -- hell, we embrace it. We look to create a system where mankind's selfish tendencies actually work in favor of society, while socialists assume that government (and the people who run it) can have the people's best-interests in mind.

Nonetheless, there are still some excellent libertarian intellectuals out there. Not too many in Universities, sadly, but there are many working hard at places like the Ludwig von Mises Institute, the Cato Institute, and others.

Socialism

This was terrible socialist tripe littered with half-truths.

Am I ready?

Took the test:
The Would You Have Been a Nazi?

The Resistance
Achtung! You are 23% brainwashworthy, 27% antitolerant, and 47% blindly patriotic
Welcome to the Resistance (Der Widerstand)! You believe in freedom, justice, equality, and your country, and you can't be converted to the the dark side.

Breakdown: your Blind Patriotism levels are borderline unhealthy, but you show such a love of people from everywhere and a natural resistance to brainwashing, you would probably focus your energy to fight the Fuehrer with furor, so to speak.

Conclusion: born and raised in Germany in the early 1930's, you would have taken up ARMS against the oppressors. Or even your friends' oppressors. Congratulations!

Less than 5% of all test takers earn a spot in the Resistance!

Note, its comparing to the 1930's. Doesn't mean you won't be in the resistance today. ;)

yay.

Your Score: The Expatriate
Achtung! You are 23% brainwashworthy, 18% antitolerant, and 33% blindly patriotic

My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 99% on brainwashworthy
You scored higher than 99% on antitolerant
You scored higher than 99% on patriotic

I'm afraid of the fact that I scored higher than 99% of people in my age group, Jesus.

Let me guess...

You're being sarcastic. did I pass? Bless your heart!
