Texas Primary 3/29/08 - Post Your Help To Texas Here
Submitted by Scott Barber on Wed, 03/26/2008 - 12:23
Hello Daily Paul,
It's been a while since I visted the site. It's been a while since I had a regular sleeping schedule, but that's beside the point.
Texas has its county/senatorial district conventions this Saturday and I am asking anyone/everyone that has been through their second level convention process to post any information they can to help us with "lessons learned" or even what to watch out for.
We have some really great people learning/teaching (and praying) here, but the value of actual experience cannot be overlooked.
If you have anything you can offer to help us, please post it here. We want so much to bring this home for Ron Paul in his state.
Thanks in advance!

That tactic only works if you understand the rules of the convention and for those that don't understand the language and rules that will be used at the convention i would suggest you learn thos basics first.

These training programs are put out by the HQ. Good info on there.
Off the top of my head
Arm-twist beforehand. One recurring problem seems to be easy spots to fill, but not enough people. This may be less of a problem as it gets more centralized, but I think it's worth making sure that you call and e-mail supporters to get them turned out. Get a commitment and don't neglect the smaller less active regions. Some of those reported that no one showed up except one lone RP supporter.
If you're in an active region, check around and see if you can find supporters in nearby inactive areas. You'll need them, later.
Second, and this needs to be done now, is to approach local Republican officials in elected office, and ask their advice. Find out if they've gone to conventions before, or are going now (probably, yes). Ask them for advice on how to get resolutions considered.
Politicians usually will be nice to anyone who might vote for them, so they're likely to try and help you a little bit. If your contact with them is friendly and respectful, and then they see you there and you're a potential delegate, they are more likely to vote for you or defend you if you need help in debate or Robert's Rules. You need to establish friends in the room.
I think the whole stealth approach is a bit overdone. The RP delegates should meet in advance and know who each other is, and I think it's fine to low-key the association. But I also think it's a good idea to have at least one up-front advocate for Ron Paul so that any of the others there have someone to approach and ask questions and there is someone making the argument for Ron Paul or his platform.
Also, read this post on how to counter meeting take-overs by placing supporters around the room. http://www.dailypaul.com/node/42663
Go back and read all the posts on this. There were some great lessons learned. It is silly to make mistakes that could be avoided, so I'm glad you're doing this.
Good luck.
