I heard the this year by Q4 we should begin to see a rapid deterioration of supplies and groceries...Do most of you believe this is true and how long of an economic winter do most forsee?

Dpends on perspective and how observant an individual you are.

A tree does not burst into a fully leafed state at the advent of spring though, to many it seems so as, they do not take note of the subtle changes that occur.

It will continue....

As long as 95%+ of the sheeple believe that everything is fine,.. well, maybe not fine, but still ok. After all, the government tells me everything is going to be fine and I believe them... don't we all?

Beware of the "Y2K" type of mentality, but getting ready to be self suficient is not a bad idea. I see gold and silver dropping to a level of about $14-15 for silver and $750 or so for gold.

The dollar will gain a bit of strength and the markets will respond. I don't know if the economy can fake its way thru another true cycle or two (or more?) but I think we are looking at '09 before anything hits... that's still not very far away and I really don't know a darn thing anyway... just a guess.

We

don't have many manufacturing jobs left.
Our tech jobs are going to foreigners.
Bill Gates asked congress if he could bring
an infinity amount of H1B workers here. And he asked congress
if they could speed up the green card process
for his workers.

The job market is getting really bad.

The most secure jobs will be working at
walmart and fast food restaurants.

Job market is appalling

What would US unemployment rates be if Iraq war were ended?

I also posted this on the USA 2008 Great Depression thread:

The only jobs for your kids will be "personal service" jobs (threre's a reason that the popular shows are about cooks and tattoo artists!), because all others that can be done over the Internet will be outsourced.

Anyone interested in researching the impact of the various high-end visas (e.g., H-1B) on the job market for Americans, I cannot recommend strongly enough this resource with its newsletter subscription and links to online videos related to the testimonies of Bill Gates and the Cohen & Grigsby law firm seminar on how *not* to hire Americans :

http://www.jobdestruction.info/ShameH1B/

In the year 2001, 9 out of every 10 new job openings for computer/IT were taken by H-1Bs, and despite record unemployment the INS issued 312,000 visas in 2002.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
By the year 2003 the total number of H-1B visas for high-tech workers issued was greater than the total number of high-tech jobs eliminated. Negative job growth in Computer/IT for U.S. citizens can be directly correlated with the huge influx of H-1B visa holders. If it wasn't for H-1B the unemployment rate for Computer/IT workers would be 0%.

Until employment/unemployment rate statistics specify the nationality of those hired/fired, they are no longer a reliable indicator of the working/nonworking status of *Americans* at all. "Liars use statistics."

The longer that the market is kept from

functioning naturally, the worse and more protracted the failure will be. There are many ruses and stratagems that can be used by the Fed, for a while, in order to keep the market from working. The more they employ, the bigger the problem gets and the longer it will take to recover.

agreed

They need to let the economy heal itself first. but that would mean making drastic changes.they need to stop meddling and stop spending.

How do you "save" the money when you keep spending ?

Stop the NWO....It's just illumi..Naughty !

The U.S. federal government

The U.S. federal government is nearing upon 10 trillion in debt. In addition to that the U.S. has close to 60 trillion already amassed in future entitlement obligations, without the money to cover any of it. When we top that off with state and local governments debt.........

We are in big trouble...

The only way I really see the U.S. getting out of this mess is via crippling hyperinflation. We will print ourselves out of debt while at the same time anyone with significant amount of their net worth in cash will be wiped out.

...

the fed

can't and won't be able to fix anything ? It's too far gone and they are the problem in the first place. bernanke is a tool and paulson is a shill and the bush administration is getting exactly what they want. Power over the people that they were sworn to protect. Someone has to stand up to this and I'm willing to do what I have to but I'm alone unless we can find a way to stop it.

By the U.S. getting out of

By the U.S. getting out of the mess, I mean the debt and all the future obligations. The federal government can print money to pay its bills - but that would crush the rest of us...

Maybe that's their intention afterall..

Michigan

The economy here is so bad that I see the pain in the eyes of the Fox news guys on TV. You can see that they are trying to be all "news" like but they can't hide it anymore.
Driving through Lansing the other day I saw families pushing shopping carts with all their stuff. It's all over Michigan ! It freaks me out to see this.everywhwre I go it's the same damned thing. For sale signs everywhere.
They would actually get excited about the season opener today and say that it will bring 100,000,000 in revenue over the course of the season but who are they kidding ? noone has the money to go to the games.

The irony for me is that america is suppose to be baseball and apple pie but the way it is now the apple pie is too expensive for a normal family and the baseball is completely out of the question.

I also see for sale signs

I also see for sale signs pretty much everywhere I look in southern NJ...

...

Even in Charleston, South

Even in Charleston, South Carolina where the "housing boom did not happen" according to most, there are so many "for sale" signs around that it is amazing. On one street in one subdivision I saw nearly 40 "for sale" signs in yards...no one seems to be buying.

Does martial law qualify?

Many people do not believe the elections will happen at all.

Some crisis will "occur" that will trigger martial law before the elections occur.

Do your research - there are plenty of DP posters with "insider information" from their jobs/experience that document many different "dots" being put into place for martial law.

In particular, is there a buildup towards an attack on Iran in process right now?

I think there will be no

I think there will be no martial law. George Bush bought a 100,000 hectare ranch in Paraguay. He's not going to blow it. He's going to rob everyone blind and bounce out and live down there while the sh*t hits the fan here. No need for martial law. Let the next puppet in line deal with whatever happens to the economy.

Possibly. But America has

Possibly. But America has been free long enough for her citizens to become used to freedom as well as exercise their right to bear arms...

Judging from the amount of

Judging from the amount of Fiat Money they are pumping into circulation, I would say the Fiat Monetary System should reach its maximum possible life-span between 2012 and 2015 however, things will begin to slide rapidly down-hill long before that.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY THIS IS HAPPENING NOW..

and during the elections? Why all of a sudden, do we have this devaluation of the dollar and the housing market crunch during the elections...seems more than coincidental!

The economic mess we are in

The economic mess we are in has been a long time in the making. Ron Paul has warned of it long before I heard of him. It's coincidental that we have a Presidential election in the midst of all this.

I have been predicting

I have been predicting severe crisis starting in June or July '08 for a while now. However, now that I see the lengths the government and Fed are taking to prop up the financial sector and economy I may add a bit more time to that, like as much as 1-3 months more. As far as I know I have one of the earliest predictions around, and this is because I'd prefer to err on the early side. I don't think we'll make it to 2009, though, in all honesty.

Just prioritize. The order is water, food, shelter and self-defense. These are also the kinds of jobs which will be expected to fare well, for example, working in places that sell basic foods, medical locations, and police/security. Bottle up a store of water, and buy beans. That doesn't take months or cost a lot. Start with the basic priorities and add as time permits.

Trucking strike this week?

Does that include oil tankers for our gas stations, in addition to goods for our grocery stores?

Raise Guard Dogs

I heard the story of some Mennonite pacifists who moved to Belize to dairy farm. When the locals realized that Menonites were pacifists, they started abusing Mennonite women. Solution - German Shepherds roaming around their houses.

There will be a big demand for guard dogs if things break down. Guard dogs are sort of in the ammunition category without all the registation requirements.
