I Have A Challenge
Only Ron Paul supporters are smart enough to figure this out and I know there is some covert connection with our government and this new digital TV signal mandate making everyone have to have this digital box if they don't have cable or a digital service. I personally got two vouchers for 40 bucks a piece toward these boxes because I don't watch TV very much anymore to warrant cable.
So my challenge; why is the government worried about our signal and why are they forcing these signals to go digital when the analog platform has long since been paid for a million times over again with advertising? Why is our government spending 1.5 billion of our dollars to do this forced migration and what business it is of theirs? Why do they care about or TV signal. What's in it for them?
Here are a few hunches just off the top of my head:
-streaming propaganda to the poor to continue the message. Poor people may not be able to afford cable so these converters would assure streaming propaganda in even their homes.
-A GPS device in every home in America. The visa cards they are sending out are tied to each American. I'm guessing the box needs to be registered to complete the loop.
-A means to support high tech targeted subliminal messages using a digital signal.
Is anyone else thinking of the movie 1984 with the huge screens on the walls streaming facsict propaganda, intimidation, fear and threats?
When and why did this go down? who's ideas was it, what legislation occurred? Who supported it? I know the filthy FCC Cartel is behind it but what was their process?
Please support your ideas with links so we can get to the bottom of this highly irregular involvement of our government and our boob tubes.

I'll bite
this sounds like something fun to dig around and answer. I would guess control and research it that way. Cutting the flow of information is vital if you are going to war... so let's make the vhf/uhf bands Homeland Security only and anyone who attempts to communicate is by defention a homegrown terrorist. Taking away our means to do so would be seen as an attack on our civil liberties (Ham radio, CB, etc... ) So a better way to do it is to make sure that nobody is in the position to RECEIVE any information that is not government controlled. So just go digital...lol.
This is not in my field of expertise at all, but we still have a free internet, so I'll see what I can come up with. Learning new things is fun!
I'll make this a pet project for this weekend, unless someone has a breakthrough before then. I was going to make a FedWatch post for DP, but the news last weekend kinda put a big damper on that... ;(

I smell a rat.

Rudy got them a 4.5 billion dollar contract from the FCC to be the only signal in an emergency.

...but there seems to be a strong possibility here to send out *gasp* unauthorized analog TV signals for those who know where to look.

supposedly, it's being done to clear up the analog airwaves for first responders like firemen. at least that's the story. & by the way, i recall mccain as a primo supporter of the legislation to end analog signals when it was initially proposed a few years back.
i honestly don't know if there's any sinister intention behind it, other than possibly the telecom lobbyists -- although, i believe the cable companies weren't crazy about the idea when it was proposed & may have even tried to push back.
it's probably just a typical "we're from the government & we're here to help" b.s. legislation.
are you sure the digital signal carries a gps device in it? or are you speculating?
I believe that the old
I believe that the old analog channels took up vastly more bandwidth than is now necessary with the nedw technology, so by going to digital these bands could be "carved up" to effectively make many more channels available. I may have the lingo wrong, but that is my understanding of the jist of it.

so since so many are going digital anyway, hasn't this freed up and left few still left on it. Their premium stuff is on the digital stream anyway.
And wouldn't it be smarter for police and firefighters to be on a digital signal since they are mobile? 911 is tied into all cell phones. It's just not adding up for me.
800 MHz
I read in the newspaper here that the local police department received a grant from Homeland Security to purchase new 800 MHz radios. The intent is to prevent people with scanners from tuning in. The way I understand it, most police and fire department radios currently operate on 400 MHz frequency. I do not know if this is a digital or analog signal. I do have a gut feeling that the switch is so that we won't know when the paddy wagon might be rolling down our street in the middle of the night to relocate us to FEMA camps.

considering the liberties the govt has taken with our privacy rights, it certainly wouldn't surprise me.
Maybe the cable TV lobbyists did their job well.
The fed. govt. just made $20 billion dollars selling off the "old" TV frequencies to radio stations.
Money couldn't be a reason, could it?
Sometimes the simplest reason is the correct one.
