SD convention
My take was that we did put some on the defensive. However, the only way we could have avoided that was to be submissive, and that will not accomplish our goals. I am not saying we should be belligerent. I personally saw no evidence of that by "our people". However, we do have to be assertive. The old guard, generally, would prefer we just stay at home. They really don't realize that we are all so close on our ideals.
I was proud of those in our group that took leadership roles, they performed admirably and were an inspiration to us all. These people are not polished politicians and are to be commended for walking into the lion's den.
Let this be a beginning we will not forget, and use it to build the next successes.

He was speaking in support of Jeremy's nomination of SD chairman.
It definitely was a hostile convention. It took a lot to hold in my comments about what was happening there. I have been doing my best to try and forget this event because it irks me to think about it and what we could have done differently and things that were said that I wish we didn't say and things that we should have said.
All in all I think we were screwed from the beginning. We were outnumbered 2 to 1 and the chairman sent out an email saying we were coming in to overthrow them so everyone showed up with these expectations and projections and it really made things difficult.
We were at fault as well because we came in there thinking that it was a hostile convention, and it was, but to my mind it made us rally against them instead of trying to win them over to our way of seeing things. I felt that way anyway and I regret having felt that way because I can see it was destructive.
We were no doubt up against ignorant sheeple who didn't want to see the status quo get upset and they seemed to support McCain for some wacked out reason.
I will try and forget this day and how discomforting it was to be there, we were outnumbered plain and simple.
For those who still have SD conventions coming up in other states. Keep in mind that this is a battle of principles and ideology. We must win over the hearts and minds with clear consistent logic and reason. Show them why we must unbound the delegates.

"They" (city officials and employees) used every dirty trick to defeat it, including using tax-payer's money to do city mailings against it. Illegally.
You are correct about your analysis, which is what I've been trying to point out elsewhere: making the GOP loyalists defensive is not helpful. Efforts must be made to bend over backwards to avoid it. Winning by sheer superior numbers is very difficult and has disadvantages.
The price of freedom is eternal vigilence. One of the reasons is because the process of losing freedom has gravity on its side. Fending off slavery is something we must do day in and day out; it won't happen in one meeting.
Your 3rd and 4th paragraphs form a good basis for a letter or call to the chair. You should talk these ideas over with him. Something good may come of it. It takes courage (because of the raw nerves), but it will probably be helpful in many different ways.
If you have a mutual acquaintance, see if you can get them to introduce you or break the ice for you.

Don't ever, ever EVER forget that day! Don't you dare! Events like the one you describe ought not ever be forgotten. Events where ignorance and prejudice overcome education and reason are the events that have brought us to where we are today on the brink of disaster. To forget how 'THEY' take our liberties, rights, and representation away is to forget that we had those liberties, rights, and representation in the first place.
I say remember the defeats, analyze them, and most importantly learn from them.

Yes, but passion outspoken may be worse than calm reasoning. Many turn off what sounds like a rant. I do not still understand why they are fighting SO hard for McCain. Seems silly to me.

I meant forget in the sense that it has been bothering me lately and I just want to move on to more constructive and creative thinking instead of replaying the events over and over in my mind.
Like the poster above, these people stopped at nothing and pulled out all the stops to marginalize us and shut us up. I mean everything, and what for? So, they can go on to support McCain who isn't even a real conservative and who had absolutely no visible support whatsoever in our county before and during the primaries?
I am dismayed that Orwell and Huxley were so correctly prophetic in their assessments of what the future would be like. These people are doublethinkers all the way.
If you've ever seen Alex Jones Terrorstorm there is a lady who says she will sacrifice liberty so she can have freedom. And if you watch the people who are camping out in opposition to Cindy Sheehan and all the stupid ignorant things they say like of course we found WMD's, you'll see what kind of people we were dealing with. LOL.
