Absolut vodka reconfigures North America

0 votes

A new ad for Absolut vodka reconfigures North America according to the aspirations of many Mexicans, who believe the U.S. Southwest was stolen and should be returned.

Over a redrawn map of the U.S., the ad by the Swedish Absolut Spirits Co. declares, “In an Absolut World,” noted

This is almost shocking but I guess were supposed to play along with the migration.

I love the DP

supporters, whether right or wrong. Absolute is a government owned company in Sweden. They (that is Sweden) is looking for bidders. they're have been a couple of releases that state that there have been a group of bidders offering billions for the brand. As far as I can tell none of them are tied to mexican beliefs. While this is something to be followed, Absolute will not end up in mexican (nor pro mexican) hands.

Maybe...

.. they are having trouble finding a buyer so the commercial was intentional to reduce the companies value by eliminating a huge chunk of their market???

=|

This is natural

In the distant future, the population of CA and TX will be majority Mex. It is natural they will want CA and Mex back in under the Mex flag.

The goal of the Federal World Order is to destroy the United States and her Constitution. Ill Im is just a tool.

God save the US Constitution.

Someones getting fired for this one or a huge promotion. I think they slipped this one out the bag a little early.

One of the America's most

One of the America's most unusual wars involved only one casualty -- a pig -- and yet it could have changed the course of history. The bizarre conflict took place on present-day San Juan Island (in Washington state) and involved American and British troops, and even warships.

The Pig War began on June 15, 1859, when an American settler named Lyman Cutlar shot and killed a trespassing pig belonging to Englishman Charles Griffin of the Hudson Bay Company. "It was eating my potatoes," said Cutlar, who had already warned Griffin to keep his pig out his potato patch. "It is up to you to keep your potatoes out of my pig," was Griffin's reply.

"It is like a finger pointing away to the moon, don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all the heavenly glory." - Bruce Lee

"But, indeed, no private person has a right to complain, by suit in court, on the ground of a breach of the Constitution. The Constitution it is true, is a compact, but he is not a party to it."

Haha..

.. I read that article a couple days ago and thought what idiots that advertising agency must be. Along the lines of "let's alienate all of our US customer base".

=P

I don't know anyone in the US who drinks absolut anyway

Fortune Favors the Bold

They were always more about the ad campaigns then actually having a good product

Fortune Favors the Bold

I've never been..

.. much of a drinker but back in my college days in the late 80's and early 90's vodka was my choice and I preferred Absolut 100. Back then they didn't have all the fruity flavored vodkas...

I'm going to assume it was

I'm going to assume it was meant for the mexican population, not the US.

That said, I have no idea what Mexicans think of this.

Yes, the ad WAS meant for the Mexican population, but it is highly offensive to Americans because...

"It may already be too late to avoid a future annexation of the Southwest by Mexico or the evolution of a Mexican-dominated satellite state. This is not to say Mexican people are better or worse than any of God's children. It is to say that millions of ethnically and culturally homogeneous people will seek self-determination in a land they will increasingly feel justified in claiming as their own. Especially when the natural weight of demographic change is accompanied by the soundtrack of radical demagoguery which seeks to legitimize and moralize this phenomenon as a "reconquista." Many pundits claim you will be remembered in history as the president who won (or lost) the war in Iraq. I see it differently. I believe you will come to be seen, in the years and decades to come, as the President who saved (or lost) the Southwest of the United States.

Incredible article...please read the whole thing...

What Bush Fails to See at the Border

Yes..

.. i'm fairly confident it was meant only for the Mexican market. I'm just wondering about the judgment of the bozo's who came up with and approved the ad and not knowing we would see it here in the US.

Google "la raza" and "reconquista" and you will see that there is a VERY large following in both the US and Mexico for returning about 1/3 of the US land to Mexico (basically the Absolut map)...

60 % say they want to boycott the product ~ um, oops...

yeah, smooth move, mr. ad agency

60 % ~ The ad is an affront to Americans. I'm going to boycott the product.

If I drank..

.. I would boycott it also.

If I were Absolut I would be releasing major apologies all over the media and offering free bottles of vodka to ALOT of people.

This will go down as one the Top Extreme Advertising Mistakes of All Time.

Here is a comment from a Mexican in the US:

Fabricio Says:

I was born and raised end educated in Mexico, this has got to be the
biggest sour grapes ad ever. We lost tons of what was then OUR territory,
because we were weak, stupid and corrupt, no one in Mexico cared about 2/3 of the old Nueva Espana until after they discovered gold in California and no one in Mexico cared about that territory untli the USA built it up with roads, cities, towns, services, industry in the early 20th century. Guess
what, it’s the 21st century and Mexico is still weak, stupid and corrupt,
socially, economically and govermentally. Instead of wroking to build a
great society, instead of mexican society working as a team and building a
1st class country with the tons of human an natural resources we have, we covet jealously what we could have had, what the USA became and is, it because the Americans are smart and they have their checks and balances socially, politically and economically they built an empire out of 13
piece of dirt colonies, the Spaniards gave us an empire in term of land
and as a society we pissed it away, the problem is that mexican never look
at themselves as the problem, which we are, naturally we always look at
some one else to blame for our own failings.

We suck as a culture, we suck as a society, we suck as a country, were a
third rate wannabe leftist dictatorship aka a latina american democracy
that can never get it’s act straight. I had the good fortune of marrying
into an American family that embraced me regardless of my origins these
social and political conservatives are some of the most generous and hard
working people and some of the closest nit humans you will find, I am
lucky to have left Mexico, and I will never return to Mexico, I will die
for the USA and my sons will die for the USA because it has given me
everything.

What has Mexico ever given me? Nada.

Remember though

Fortune Favors the Bold

there's no such thing as bad publicity. Maybe they are trying to capitalize on anti-american sentiment in European markets
