Spy Photos Reveal Iranian long-range missle secret launch site

(Dated 4/11 but up now 4/10/2008)

April 11, 2008

Spy photos reveal 'secret launch site' for Iran's long-range missiles. The secret site where Iran is suspected of developing long-range ballistic missiles capable of reaching targets in Europe has been uncovered by new satellite photographs.

The imagery has pinpointed the facility from where the Iranians launched their Kavoshgar 1 “research rocket” on February 4, claiming that it was in connection with their space programme.

Analysis of the photographs taken by the Digital Globe QuickBird satellite four days after the launch has revealed a number of intriguing features that indicate to experts that it is the same site where Iran is focusing its efforts on developing a ballistic missile with a range of about 6,000km (4,000 miles).

A previously unknown missile location, the site, about 230km southeast of Tehran, and the link with Iran's long-range programme, was revealed by Jane's Intelligence Review after a study of the imagery by a former Iraq weapons inspector. A close examination of the photographs has indicated that the Iranians are following the same path as North Korea, pursuing a space programme that enables Tehran to acquire expertise in long-range missile technology.

Geoffrey Forden, a research associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said that there was a recently constructed building on the site, about 40 metres in length, which was similar in form and size to the Taepodong long-range missile assembly facility in North Korea.

Avital Johanan, the editor of Jane's Proliferation, said that the analysis of the Iranian site indicated that Tehran may be about five years away from developing a 6,000km ballistic missile. This would tie in with American intelligence estimates and underlines why President Bush wants the Polish and Czech components of the US missile defence system to be up and running by 2013.

The Czech Republic has now agreed to have a special radar system on its soil and the Polish Government is still negotiating with Washington over the American request to site ten interceptor missiles in Poland.

The Kavoshgar 1 rocket that was launched in the presence of President Ahmadinejad of Iran was based on the Shahab 3B missile, a version of the North Korean Nodong liquid-propellant missile.

Dr Forden said that the Kavoshgar launch did not demonstrate any significant advances in ballistic missile technology. “But it does reveal the likely future development of Iran's missile programme,” he said.

At a meeting on February 25 between the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Iranians, UN inspectors confronted them with evidence of design studies for mounting nuclear warheads on long-range missiles. The Iranians denied any such aspirations.

However, according to Jane's Intelligence Review, the satellite photographs prove that the Kavoshgar 1 rocket was not part of a civilian space centre project but was consistent with Iran's clandestine programme to develop longer-range missiles.

The examination of the launch site revealed that it was part of a large and growing complex “with very high levels of security and recent construction activity”. It was clearly “an important strategic facility”, Dr Forden said.

The former Iraq weapons inspector said that Iran was benefiting from the North Korean missile programme and following its designs. The Taepodong 1 consisted of a liquid-propellant Nodong (like the Shahab 3) first stage, a liquid-propellant Scud second stage and a solid-propellant third stage. “The production and testing facility next to the Kavoshgar 1 launch site would seem well positioned to contribute to this third stage,” Dr Forden said.

Iran spy piccies

They have every right to have a onelongdong missile system if they have oil reserves to protect from intrusion. If we know where they are we can watch to see if they are about to launch and take them out at that stage if neccessary to fill our cars up. Leave these folk alone and they won't bother us. They would be quite happy to sell oil and buy fancy goods and foreign assets with the money. You can bet that the draft will come soon after any offensive too whilst bring down unemployment figures.

Sounds like a piece of the puzzle

Sounds like a piece of the puzzle (fabricated or not) that the one-world thugs will use as a justification for another round of unconstitutional and illegal military intervention with Iran/q and the petpetuation of American Imperialism.

But perhaps the No Peace, More War Movement underestimates the potential outrage of the good people of America if the oligarchy orders an attack or invasion of Iran. Perhaps an honest and unimpeachable statesman of the character and integrity of the Honorable Dr. Ron Paul will awaken the drowsy masses to the plain sense and savvy of the Constitution--that it is strictly and explicitly the role of the Congress to declare war and not that of a surrogate military dictatorship.

Perhaps the American people do love their liberty after all and ultimately are but wolves in sheep's clothing. Long live the 2nd Amendment!

I WANT FREEDOM! THAT'S WHAT I WANT--AND THAT'S WHAT YOU SHOULD WANT!

My question is: so what?

This is brobably b.s. but even if it isn't, what does it matter? Does any intelligent person really think that Iran is going to start bombing everyone? What do you think would happen to them if they did? Which country is it that is going around bombing anyone they please? And why are they so determined to make sure no one else can fight back?
Dang, I'm just full of questions this morning.

If you look reeeally close you can see WMD, or not

Kemp they didn't published as "alleged" sites. Remeber this is a UK news outlet. Certainly has lots of comments this morning here and on the the paper's site.

Spy satellite photos...

Spy satellite photos... sounds like war propaganda to me...

...

Haha..

.. the satellite shots shown on television of Iraqi troops amassing on the Kuwaiti border back in 1990 were fake.

The satellite photos of Saddam's "mobile bio-weapon lab" turned out to be a helium cannister truck (the same cannisters you use to inflate balloons).

What ya wanna bet these are BS too.

;)

Spy photos = WAR

HogWash!

In God We Trust!

Don't you believe any of this hogwash BS! Iran is a peaceful nation not like the United States of America's ( politicians ) and all they want is to be left alone ( just like us here in the usa ) They want nuclear energy like many other nations and they have the OK by the international atomic energy people. These warmongers are the same crazed like people who cried out "Crucify him".
The liars in the Bush administration are cold hearted murderers who don't give a damn about any people on earth and they now think that they can do whatever they please because they have the power in military might.

George Bush and his gang will fall at least 110 stories deeper into hell than Hitler and his gang.

These are the real terrorists who cause so much suffering throughout the world funded by your tax dollars I might add.
May the good Lord send fire down from heaven and fully devour them so that ALL the world can at last rejoice! This is my daily prayer!
Their days are numbered!

They are scumbags

While I'll agree that we americans have a very short memory for history....certainly, we can remember back just 5 1/2 years ago.....this is the exact same thing.....Everyone remember colin powell up there saying....look at all these iraqi weapon sites....see them??? huh, huh....
Iran does not have launchers....I don't even think they are interested...maybe for self defense against israel...or America....
But that would be about it...

"and the truth shall make you free"
John 8:32

so what?

The USA has thousands of nukes along with many ships around the oceans with nukes onboard. And we are the only one bossing the world around.

I've talked to a few former military people who all have the view that the USA is the biggest terrorist nation on the earth. It sickens them what we think we can do to everyone else.

If I were Iran, I'd probably want some nukes to so I could protect myself from the biggest bully in the world to.

You took the words

right out of my mouth. It's like saying--look at that guy walking down the street. He looks like he
could hurt me so I'd better kill
him just in case.If I did that,I would go to prison for life, but when they kill thousands just in case,it's legal?

Kinda like the Iraq prewar

Kinda like the Iraq prewar sat. photos...I don't see any missile launchers in these photos. Could someone here point them out to me?

Wait, never mind. I forget,

Wait, never mind. I forget, you have to be an intelligence expert to see the launch sites in these photos. Which begs the question, why show them to the public?

Iran has not attacked anyone

Iran has not attacked anyone in over 1700 years and I do not feel threatened by them in the least. (Iraq attacked them first in the Iran/Iraq War). I used to have two Iranians on my Yahoo friends list. I lost touch with them when they fled the country because they are afraid of us Americans attacking them. One was a school teacher and one was an engineer. They both spoke very good English and not once did they ever express any kind of hatred or disrespect for us Americans, merely fear of our government. In the main chat room, I saw this sentiment expressed repeatedly. I get so sick of the propaganda perpetuated by the warmongers in our country....

**the soul would have no rainbow if the eyes had no tears**

So who thinks.........

That our politicians are going to swallow this load of crap and let Bush do whatever he wants again?

Or, are they smarter than before?

I would pay a million dollars to sit next to RP with a bucket of popcorn watching this theatrical performance of misinformation.

OH MY GOD!!! THE IRANIANS

OH MY GOD!!! THE IRANIANS HAVE MISSILE SITES!!! QUICK, LET'S NUC THEM BEFORE THEY KILL US!!

Missile sites in Iran

So what?

MrTom

Agree

We have plenty of missile sites, not just here but all over the world. I guess we can be trusted to be more responsible than anyone else in the world that doesn't follow to the beat of globalization.

"The casualty of partisanship is objectivity."

How the hell

do you miss a missle site? Give me a break. Is this the same site that has russian scientists building a nuclear program the we know are there since we are paying them?

Brought to you by the DoD

The same people who brought you the Iraq War now submit for your approval: The Iran War!

"The casualty of partisanship is objectivity."

Would these be like the photos

Colin Powel showed some great shots of those mobile lab in semi trucks, too. Got to love that photoshop when you are looking to start a war.

Truth exists, and it deserves to be cherished.

YOU BEAT ME

I was going to scroll down and write the same exact thing....

Its probably a photo in nevada somewhere.....

Good man;)

Freedom may be worth searching for.

I have given up on my fellow Americans, (not DPers) as I will not shed one more calorie trying to awaken anyone else who is not a critical thinker and does not have the inherent feeling that something is wrong.

oh please ???

here we go , more lies.

Who Needs a Long Range Missile Site

When you can kill 3,000 of your own with a false flag operation. We can't trust film on TV, let alone photos and propaganda.

What would the usa do if they

were constantly beig threatened by some bully. Oh we are the bully! I would try to build a weapon to protect myself. but They seem to have enough sense to know nukes would only destroy not only them but alot of resources and only be a means to the end of the world duh. dam we have a stupid country. Lets go green and get other countries to do it too. i'm sure all those bombs really help. But use your new light bulbs and such. what a joke. peace would be green.
