Some socialized medicine mathSubmitted by jzneff on Wed, 04/16/2008 - 12:34
I've been pretty successful using this math problem for the uninformed leftists who are now clamoring for nationalized health care. It's simple arithmatic that could make Karl Marx's jaw drop.
First, even by the most conservative estimates, the US spends around $7000 per recipient of medicare or medicaid.
Next, there are roughly 300,000,000 citizens in the United States.
$7000 * 300,000,000 = $2,100,000,000,000...that's 2.1 trillion dollars for those unable to count zeros well.
2.1 trillion dollars buys what? How many people on the medicare system are happy with it? It provides low quality managed care, plenty of red tape, and long waits to get substandard care.
Just a point of reference...2.1 trillion is almost double what the US government collected in income taxes last year.
So, under this system, we would need to triple our income tax, so we all can enjoy substandard health care and spend hours on the phone and on typical government forms every year.
Do you really think Hillary/Obama are seriously considering starting something like this...or are they just pandering to the mindless compassion of people who don't consider the price of their compassion?
