I think they miss thier point!
The campaign is trying to capture the undecided older voters by showing real people stating that not everything Ron says can be agreed with yet he is a genuine person that average people will vote for and not some crazy "911 truther" fringe candidate, which the MSM has tried to paint him. I applaud their idea, but I lambaste their results. I've seen much better ads at 3am then this piece of work. If they were to take the advice of the millions of Paulities and create a commercial to HAVE IT SCREENED beforehand to ensure the product is worthy of airing then we would be in a greater position to win! With the technology today, you could have made several different commercials for near pennies to the dollar if you would ask for help from all to volunteers out here. Here’s an Ideal, Have a contest to create a 30second Commercial, Winner gets a day with paul on the ground and say $50,000 for the rights……Holly cow Batbrains, think of all the possibilities. Why are they not thinking? WHY? Do they not want to win? This say so IMHO!
I will be voting for Ron Paul, even if he is not nominated
I will be voting for Ron Paul, even if he is not nominated
No one buys
No one buys into Ron Paul on first impression. The intent is to get name recognition and get the viewer to dig in a bit and do some homework.
What was your first impression of RP?
Socialists are Everywhere
I just watched it for the 4th time....
and it's not getting any better. The first time I watched it all I could think of was that line about not agreeing with Ron Paul. The second time I watched it I thought about how phony the acting was. The third time I watched it I noticed the bad editing, and now the fourth time I realize how bad the music is. Oh, and all four times I watched it, I couldn't believe they could make Dr. Paul look so bad with the blue screen, the orange blotchy make-up, and the negative look on his face. He looks like he has a headache. By the way, that color of blue and that color of orange don't look good together.
The blue screen is kind of a
Ah, yes the music. Didn't even think about that before...
The blue screen is kind of a technical aid for putting a background image on, I suppose. You'll see the white house there. I hope.
Will Jay Leno play this ad when Ron Paul visits? "Here's your first TV-ad, this is what your surprising donation success is worth!" I hope not.
new ad
why not simplify things,& just use various clips from "a new hope" video for ads? it doesn't get any better than this video for introdroducing the common folk to Dr. Paul. there's nothing worse than regular folks who can't act,.trying to act..cheesy is right..Ahhhhh..but its not the end of the world either..
randy n.
It's obvious Ron Paul doesn't even like the ad...
...HE'S NOT SMILING!!!
That, to me, is actually the most disturbing thing about this ad. If my first impression of Ron Paul was of some scowling old guy and then that was followed up by some cheesy dialog which sounds like it's from the seventies, I'd be turned off.
Instead, how about seeing some numbers?? As in, numbers of people flocking to see Ron Paul, Ron smiling and greeting white and black babies, kids, adults of all stripes? Or, the numbers of straw polls he's won? This ad isn't just bad...it's DANGEROUS TO THE CAMPAIGN AND A GIFT TO RON'S COMPETITION!!!
This ad is disturbing to me on a number of levels and I think the negative reviews need to be taken very seriously. Maybe the publicity that would be generated by quickly pulling the ad could be unintended GAIN!
Does this ad look like Ron Paul is serious about wanting to become president? NO!!!!!! The Ron Paul campaign needs to appreciate the psychological nature of the TV ads. Remember, Nixon lost a close election because he looked bad on TV.
My strong advice: Pull the ad, pay supporters to hit and paper the streets or come up with some other original form of reaching the masses. TV ads are expensive and if done wrong, they can amount to the Howard Dean scream for Ron Paul's campaign. TAKE THIS DAMN SERIOUSLY, JESSE BENTON!!!
Maybe the Ron Paul supporters need to write a letter of marque and reprisal against this ad? IF THE RON PAUL CAMPAIGN CAN'T RESPOND TO THE VOICE OF ITS SUPPORTERS NOW, HOW DOES RON PAUL EXPECT TO BE AN EFFECTIVE PRESIDENT??? C'Mon, folks! We're the Ron Paul Revolution! Revolt against this very dangerous commercial!!!
Follow me on Twitter!
Ron Paul is not an infallible God...
of course we can give feedback to the Paul campaign....
Even Jesus had twelve disciples to give him feedback....
It IS fair to be concerned that 1/5 of the campaigns treasury will be spent on terrible ads like this one....it is no small issue...
Ron Paul himself stated in a fundraiser I attended that he NEVER HEARD of MEETUP before a couple of months ago (despite the fact that it has been a big force since Dean in '03). It's OK for us to help let Dr. Paul know more about the beauty and cost effectiveness of the "new media."
The Internet "base" is - after all - 80% of the campaign fundraising.
Questioning decisions does not show lack of "patriotism" to the cause...and spending more on ads like this one just because "we've already spent so much money" on production is a hollow argument.
In fact, those two arguments are right out of Bush's press releases about staying in Iraq.
It's OK for even geniuses to make a mistake - as long as they realize quickly they screwed up and make a change. Even Steve Jobs totally blew it with the G4 Cube several years ago and NOBODY remembers that disaster now.
We raised 400K in 3 days for radio ads. Since this first video broke I think we've raised maybe 10-15K. The "free market" had made its judgement.
NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
I am 1000% behind the campaign and Nov 5th IS going to be HUGE.
The "free market" of supporter videos is doing a much better job.
We are going to win New Hampshire!
Right on!
Just wish that they'd recognize the "free market".
hate to be negative but...come on
I would NEVER show this to someone that I was trying to "introduce" to RP for the first time. Hell, I've watched every RP vid around and love the man to death and I can barely stand to watch this thing. If this was the first RP video I ever saw I can promise you it'd be the last. I'd have no reason to want to find out any more about him. It's one of the dumbest commercials I've ever seen. He's ORANGE for christsake! (and yes, I'm new here but I'm an active memeber of atlanta meetup 294. I joined here this morning to voice concern about this add. I'm not some Romney spy!)
Reaction to first Ron Paul TV
Get a grip, folks.
We were specifically told that this ad (and perhaps the other four) were
made in NH with NH supporters of RP. These are NOT acters. Their
impact is that they we be recognized by many dozens, perhaps hundreds, of people in their own and neighboring communities. That's the credibility of endorsements by people they know personally. (This is NOT
Regis and Kelly in a TV ad claiming they bank in Dixville Notch.)
You may have seen the NH Insider story which mentions the fact that NH people have noticed that the vast majority of RP signs are on private, rather than public, property. Once again, what's important to NH voters is
that so many of their neighbors are personally committed to RP. THAT's
what this ad conveys.
Still can't stand it? Fine, so be it. Get out your checkbooks, send money to the NH, Iowa, SC, NV and WY Meetup groups so they can buy RP campaign literature. Get out your credit cards, and find "chipin" projects
you can support - like the banner ads on Drudge, or the Manchester Union Leader. Organize another half dozen sign events. Submit a video
to the campaign ad contest. Move forward.
We're in the very competetive business of trying to win a presidential nomination here. There are far too many ways to stay involved to spend our time bitching about what we don't like (and may not fully comprehend).
Let's get to it.
Get out your
NH ad
I am going to save my judgement until the new numbers come out.
I refuse to get negative or even entertain the thoughts.
TV ad is terrible
I hope they stop this ad from airing on Monday.
What are they thinking. I don't care if they are professionals.
If we had listened to professionals Ron Paul would not be running.
I would like to know who is responsible for this ad? I would like to know if Ron Paul has seen this ad? Is this sabotage?
At the end of the ad this guy is saying the very not believable "Really".
as if they are trying to convince us that he is not!
Flood the campaign with calls. i called and told them the ad sucks but the person i talked don't get it so if they don't get it AND GET IT FAST THEN WE GOT A PROBLEM AT HQ'S.
I agree
It looks so phony, it is a complete turnoff. The acting is horrible.
New RP NH TV ad
Stop and think about the ad for a minute.
This ad is exactly what it's suppose to be. It's made to reach a demographic that you and I are NOT. We see internet ads and productions and most of us are really "plugged in". The folks he is shooting for are NOT "plugged in".
He is getting out on TV watchers, older folks, rural type people folks that could care less about a bunch of hype and glitter.
Take it easy, these RP folks know what they're doing. RP has ran 10 campaigns for congress and has beaten incumbants TWICE that were heavily favored against him!
RP knows what he is doing.
I couldn't disagree more !
This ad is exactly what it's NOT suppose to !! PHONY!! All the other candidates are PHONY!! Ron Paul is the only HONEST candidate out there ! You say it's "made to reach a demographic that you and I are not" WRONG again! I am a TV watcher, older folk, and live in the suburbs and it turned my stomach! You say " these RP folks know what they're doing". Well if these so called "RP folks" want to DESTROY Ron Paul I guess they do know what they are doing! Whoever directed and produced this HARMFUL piece should be FIRED immediately, before they can do any more HARM to Ron Paul!!
Ad
I'm usually not too critical, but I am concerned about this ad. I mean "pronto" what's that all about? I guess it's O.K. if it was on the cheap, but it has to be accompanied with another one that has Ron Paul doing one of his great speeches in congress. I mean the "let it not be said" speech or the anti-surge, I'm certain portions of those speeches embedded in a commercial would be profound. Just my opinion.
I TRUST RON PAUL
If we do not trust Dr. Paul now with his TV ads---how can we trust him with our future. I personally let go of the money I send him and I trust his judgement. We are not lobbist or special interest groups. We need to encourage and let him do what he believes is best. The message is there and this grandma understood it---so will New Hampshire. Peace
Dr. Paul 2008
Cheese factor aside...
I can't image Ron watching this ad and saying, "Oh, good...I'm orange."
No problem
That ad is targeted at a specific group, the internet hipster isn't in that target demographic.
No problem with the ad, just run it a LOT.
Socialists are Everywhere
This AD is terrrible. The Campaign must make a better one.
All I can say is wow ... how awful was that?
Here we have real, impassioned grassroots support (by knowledgable citizens) for Ron Paul all around the Country, and yet they make a phony TV Ad with a bunch of boring, half-alseep, awkward people saying nothing but contrived, forced, things.
It looked so fake and phony.
Where is the real energy?
Where is the real enthusaism?
Where is the real inspiration?
Put That In The TV AD
Get the real thing out there.
Get the real energy out there.
Geez, this Ad was so phony it made me feel like I was watching a Joe Lieberman commercial.
Common Ron
You can do way better than that.
Just use your own voice and images, pick one topic, and hit it out of the park. then in a few weeks pick a new topic.
Honestly though.. Ron Paul has the hardest job in human history.. he has to explain the philosophy of liberty in 30 seconds.
NH ad
I think it was an ok ad. The money saved in production costs can get it aired a few more times.
jmeagan
Really? "an ok ad" ...REALLY?
Well, you're certainly entitled to your opinion. And that's OK.
And I agree that "money saved in production costs" can leave more money to run more ads.
However, I'll bet that there's a Ron Paul campaign staffer with a camcorder, tripod, and computer that can make a better ad in one day for about $zero dollars... And still have a lot better ad to run many more times than this last one.
Seriously, Ron Paul needs to demand his money back on this production.
Good / Not So Good
The good news:
1. We have enough money to run ads.
2. This ad will run heavily in the state where RP has the best chances.
3. The ad is not offensive.
4. The ad will imporve name recognition.
5. The ad will appeal to older, more rural, less internet savvy voters.
6. It's so cheesy it might have a memorable appeal or even a positive albeit unintended 'campy' effect.
7. Most ads 'work' when seen multiple times even if they are not 'good' or liked. (Advertising, sadly, is often premised on repitition not quality).
The not so good news:
1. Ron looks angry...
2. The ad reminds me of those conversational German videos we had to watch in high school... phony, staged, insincere, cheesy, and didactic (which is ok for a language class but not for a campaign presised solely on independence, sincereity, honesty, and integrity).
3. The acting is unnatural.
4. The spirit of the ad is... well, there is no spirit to the ad. It's neither inspirational nor fresh nor creative nor funny nor comforting nor inspiring nor bold.
5. Some of the cuts are jittery.
6. Several YouTube videos and or simple excerpts of live speeches are more natural and more informative.
Comment: The video is getting all of this blowback not because it's awful (though it's not great)--and not even because it won't be effective (because it might work), but because it's just not what this campaign is about. The "Revolution" is not about merely using grassroots to run a merely conventional campaign, but about spreading this fresh and uniting spirit throughout everything it touches. All in all, this ad doesn't suck, it's just not that great... and we've come to expect better.
I love what you said:
"The "Revolution" is not about merely using grassroots to run a merely conventional campaign, but about spreading this fresh and uniting spirit throughout everything it touches. All in all, this ad doesn't suck, it's just not that great... and we've come to expect better."
Much better!!!

Ok with all the complaints
Ok with all the complaints let us at least show people in case they see how much we don't like the add we still believe in our guy. Lets all donate right now to show even while complaing we still support our guy. Going to donate right now to give him money to buy good and bad adds.

Ok I feel better saw my name on donation page so where were we?

Fine line between amatuer and authentic
I saw the lady in the ad at the Concord NH Ron Paul HQ rally. She is an ardent supporter not an actor. Probably no actors at all in this ad. Scripted? Probably.
But, I think the ad is simply awful. No emotional connection, no information, no strong message, no Ron Paul.
Focus on the MESSAGE and the MESSENGER. Pull this ad and use a better one.
h-daddy
TV ad a good starting point
Most people are not going to put this ad under a microscope like those of us who are passionate supporters. After all it is only 30 seconds long. We have to create awareness and name recognition. That is a good first step.
This ad can be changed, edited or redone if the campaign feels as though it is not getting the job done.
Terrible Ad
This ad is just terrible. It does nothing. It says nothing. Is this some sort of joke that campaign is playing on us . . . and on Dr. Paul?
