The following is some correspondence from a John McCain meetup group I joined recently.
Don't waste your time worrying about Ron Paul. It's just a sideshow.

Even if they are Ron Paul people - if they were elected as McCain or Romney delegates are they not required to vote that way?
I did tell you I believe that Ron Paul people infiltrated the Mass. caucuses on April 5th and some were elected as McCain and Romney delegates. They are trying to contest them.

Perhaps it would help if you told us specifically which states are a
problem. I followed the bound delegate count pretty closely (as I expect we all did) up through March 4th. Even the NY Times (which counts only bound delegates) had McCain at well over 900 delegates prior to March 4th. If I remember correctly McCain won both Texas and Ohio with more than 50% of the vote and Mississippi with more than 80%. So, with respect, your numbers just do not make any sense to me.
Andrea, My info came from each state's Secretary of state offices and the RNC delegation report. Remember not all delegate's are bound and that ones that are only 814 have been bond thus far to McCain. Campaign of course positive about it even the RNC is positive but it would not be first time in history it has changed at convention. I just concerned we taking our eye off the ball because of the conventions Ron Paul Supporters taking control of and then they get the national delegates. I have actually been talking with Rick Davis. And he says it a light concern but feels by September they just have to except McCain no matter what because RNC not going allow a Broker convention. But what if? thats all I am saying. I can break down all the information for you if you wish show you where 814 comes from. And in June I give you final numbers but also I interested I hope after Tue Ron Paul with draws that end it there maybe we should just send email to Paul campaign telling him to withdraw?
I just called the McCain Campaign offices just to make sure he has the requisite number of BOUND delegates and they confirmed that he does. I have no idea where Tellmer got this 814 number. I am all in favor of wooing Ron Paul supporters, and it is important that McCain have a good show of confidence at the convention- but the nomination itself is not in jeopardy.
John McCain excels at retail politics. People want a personable President first and foremost. Bush had charisma, Clinton had charisma and so did Reagan and Carter. As long as McCain remains the most charismatic running, and I feel he is, he should have no problem securing the nomination and sailing to victory against the Demos, who are not ready for primetime at this point. John McCain needs to worry about John McCain and the American people which I believe he is doing. Ron Paul is more of a prognosticator than a leader right now. We need a leader. John McCain is our man.
Andrea, I belive your correct they are doing a good job for us. But my concern still is the forces in this party. look lost delegates in AZ and people saying break delegate bond they have towards McCain and truth is he doesnt have it in the sack what our we going to think come national convention and the Ron Paul people take control there like they doing across the country right now in non-bound states? has it stands now McCain only has 814 pledge for sure bound delegates. I surprise you people dont see the threat. I mean in his own home state they ablie do that. I not trying be a doomer I just dont want us go in there with our pants down.
