GOLD Advice. I Need Help.

I live near Louisville KY.

I have persuaded members of my family to purchase gold.

I need feedback on where to buy and honest answers on what to expect in the coming months with precious metals.

All help will be greatly appreciated.

I've read countless articles

I've read countless articles on the topic and it seems that overall the belief is that gold and silver will be an excellent long-term investment with some articles mentioning that there will be a short-term (few months) where the prices will be depressed a bit.

Personally, I think we are probably past the short term depressed prices for the most part.

Gold is good, but I see silver as having a lot more upside due the the market structure, how easily there can be shortages, the great industrial demand for the metal as well as the incredible number of short sales that will eventually need to cover.

...

10-20% of SAVINGS IN GOLD/SILVER NOT 100%

Don't conivnce anyone into putting all their savings into gold/silver. 10-20% maximum.

I order from apmex every now

I order from apmex every now and again. Credit card orders show up within 2 weeks usually. Checks a week longer for clearing time.

It is very simple

The only reason you should buy gold for is to preserve your wealth/Savings!

"Employed as an industrial metal in jewelry, dentistry, sophisticated electronics and space hardware, gold is no ordinary commodity. It has a high value-to-weight ratio, making it one of the oldest, most trusted forms of money. It cannot be produced; it must be found and mined. This rarity value gives it credibility as an honest store of wealth.

For centuries, the "honesty" of gold has been the bane of financially dishonest governments, which have even diluted the gold content of their coins to deceive holders as to their face value."

I recommend APMEX as well

I recommend APMEX as well .... my friend and I made several silver purchases through their website - very satisified!

How long

did it take you to get your silver?
It's been a month now, and I haven't received mine from two different companies.

I am to that point of knowing

that it is to preserve weaIth and understand that entirerly..haha.

I am getting info for my mom and brother in law. I am mired in debt and worried about paying that off currently. They however have savings and from what I have learned as of late have persuaded them to take action before it's too late.

Thanks for the websites... =] Apmex I'll look into that immediately.

We can all say what needs to be done, but who here led by example today?

Savings

It's great that you have persuaded your family members to take action. People that have worked their asses off all of their lives and put money away in savings accounts especially need to convert it into gold and/or silver. We are heading down the Weimar road and that is a fact. Check out Jim Sinclair's commentaries and editorials at jsmineset.com. He is a fearless gold bug with a huge heart.

I have written about this

on several occasions. Please buy gold at your local shops. Find one you get along with. The personal relationship is very important. This is my opinion but buy gold in small increments instead of all at once. My reasoning for that is based upon the ability to build a relationship. A one time purchase will not build the relationship you want. Why is the relationship important? For two reasons. One, like everything else, a good customer gets better deals. I have gotten some sweet deals from my guy. And two, because when you want to sell it, you need someone to buy it. If there is rush to sell gold, I want to make sure he is going to buy mine before someone else.

As for the future of gold. I suggest you check out Jim Sinclair's website jsminset (I thank other DPs for showing me the way).

Thank you. I was wondering if it would have to be a local ordeal.

It doesn't have

to be a local deal. But I think it is in your best interest. Buy with cash and there are no records. Buying online, phone, mail leaves records which you don't want if confiscation becomes an issue. Also either get a top of the line safe or find a really good place to bury it and can still find many years later. Do not keep it in bank safe deposit box. Because you actually are going to need it for trade, you won't be able to get it.

On a side note, when I went to the safe place to get a safe, the guy asked me what I wanted it for and if I kids and who did I want to keep out of the safe. I replied "everyone" he turned around and pointed to the safe and said "you want that one" "ok I'll take it"

Obviously.

I know from history that the government had banned gold ownership in the past. So no papertrails is a damn good idea.

What would be the best way of going about finding a reputable dealer?

I started with the

phone book of all things. Started with the some of the larger ads and then looked to see where they are located. The ones in the better parts of town will probably be the better dealers. Then you need to go and meet with them. If you are ready to buy, make sure you know the spot price. Everybody has their own way of doing things. For instance, when buying silver my guy sells ounce bars at $1 over spot and $1.50 for coins. Since I am in the south west. If I go before the close of the NY market, he uses the opening spot price. If I go after the close he compares the opening spot and the closing spot and charges the higher amount. He defends this approach since he has to inventory the gold and silver. Which I think is a fair business deal.

A lot of new coins have entered the market, such as new coins from South Africa and China. I try to stay with Canadian Maples and Chinese Pandas. South African Kuggerands are good, but harder to find.

I have heard that Pawn shops are good places because they don't usually keep close tabs on the spot price, but I don't think it is worth the effort.

If you want to tell us the city or region you are in, I'm

sure some of us here could point you in the direction of a reputable dealer or website. I live overseas so, except for one crowd in Phoenix, I can't help you much.

You need to know upfront that if you buy gold or silver you will be in for a rollercoaster ride. If you buy and hang on, you will come out fine. Some days the price soars and then the next day it will break your heart. I've been on this ride for years and don't get too worked up about the bad days especially since I know what's coming.

You might already know that the stock market is manipulated by the President's Working Group on Financial Markets (better known as the Plunge Protection Team). Well, their little sister is the Gold Cartel and its job is to keep a lid on the price of gold and give it a good smack every once in a while so people will get disgusted and put their money back into the stock market. It's all run by the same crowd with the blessing and collusion of the US govt.

I can't tell you what will happen in the coming months, but I can tell you what the coming years will bring -- a dead dollar and gold heading for the moon. Sound like fun?

Depending on how much you have to spend, you might want to split your purchase between gold and silver.

Thank You Lisa.

I'll look into that. I have noticed so many gold posts here on the DP.

I figured it would be the best place to start.
