Ron Paul should run in general election as a republican
Submitted by PietroCappello on Mon, 04/21/2008 - 19:43I think Dr. Paul should consider running for president as not specifically third party. He should run as a republican. Not "THE" republican party since they are not actually republicans anymore. Then he could defend his point that he is a true republican and that the folks who have over run the republican party are actually socialist fascists. Is this possible can dr. paul run as a republican...It may not be the GOP per se but it would be accurate and true that he is truly a conservative. I would send money as i know many other would as well.

The reason i am so insistent
I don't think we have until 2012.. It worries me. I don't know what anybody is really ready to do to prevent one of the greatest and probably last tragedies in human history. We have a group of people who are supposed to be representing us but instead are committing crimes out in the open. Abusing freedom. Creating enemies for us , everywhere in the world. We allow them access to the most terrifying arsenal ever created in human history made with the blood , sweat and tears of our fellow Americans present and past. We have not marched to Washington with Sheriffs and law enforcement to have these folks escorted out. We have not gone to the television stations to enforce RICO statutes that have been violated. I don't want to seam like such a downer but this election may quite literally be our very last chance to prevent a tragedy of biblical proportions.
My prayer is that a person of honor will represent us.
amen.
I wonder if we have that
I wonder if we have that long too. But we have to fight and stand up for freedom, regardless of the odds. It's our responsibility as Americans and as a part of freedom loving mankind.
AMEN
AMEN
The good doctor should run
The good doctor should run as an 'Independent Conservative'.
I'm writing him in regardless, however.
I agree
Sadly the name "Republican" may be trademarked or some such thing that may be inviting legal heartache if he were to associate any- non GOP sanctified campaign with it. I like the term "Constitutionalist" too- either way I plan to write his name on the back of a printed copy of the Constitution- fold it in half and drop it in the box (un countable or not) as a real write in at that point may not even be available. I refuse to put anything into a Diebold machine.
Good idea...but
I don't think the GOP would allow him to be on the ballot as a republican.
I don't think there's any reason he couldn't run as a "Democratic Republican"
This in itself would be a statement...Dr. Paul wants to return to the values of men like Thomas Jefferson, why not re-create the original party of the American Patriots and paint the other two parties as the "Federalist" parties.
Even if we don't get a win vs. the morons who'll get the nomination, maybe Americans will spend the next four years thinking about limited government. The war against Iran (McCain or Hilldog) and perhaps a few more soverign nations...or trillion dollar health care (Barack or Hill) will give them plenty to think about.
Dr. Paul's best chance is not in 2008, it's in 2012. Ronald Reagan lost the 1976 nomination, and it took 4 years for the GOP to see the error of their ways.
Dr. Ron Paul - Democratic Republican canidate for President!
What do you think about the war on drugs?
How about Operation Wall Street?
Shout it today!

I just fear that
2012 will be too late. Plus RP is already in his seventies. Another run might be to much to bear. We need to find a worthy successor that RP can get behind and start the campaign right after the general elections.
What does?
GOP mean?
Grand Ol' Party "It is like
Grand Ol' Party
"It is like a finger pointing away to the moon, don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all the heavenly glory." - Bruce Lee
"But, indeed, no private person has a right to complain, by suit in court, on the ground of a breach of the Constitution. The Constitution it is true, is a compact, but he is not a party to it."
Almost..
...... For a long time Republicans have been known as the "G.O.P." And party faithfuls thought it meant the "Grand Old Party." But apparently the original meaning (in 1875) was "gallant old party."
No
The answer is no he cannot. The GOP is a private group and if they nominate someone to run for them then another person cannot step in and run for them also. It would open Dr. Paul up to a shitload of lawsuits and it would ultimately be unethical to bypass the nomination process. We must use the rules to win this or if all else fails, write letters to the GOP stating you are unaffiliating and join the Libertarian Party to help it grow in numbers and possibly replace the republican party with the Libertarian party. The GOP has been shrinking and would be half its current size or less if the new republicans that Dr. Paul brought in leave.
I know that he cannot represent the GOP as 3rd party
but as it stands now the GOP is NOT a republican organization. So with the momentum we have we should have the freedom to reform a conservative republican party. NOT the GOP party. Maybe we should call it Republicats or the Conservitans. The point is to have a party that is republican and is not the GOP.
