Alone Against Tomorrow
Submitted by RDunn on Mon, 04/21/2008 - 20:47Over two months ago I changed my voter registration from "Libertarian" to "republican" in order to vote for Dr Paul here in Pennsylvania. But I am not becoming a republican. In my lifetime, if ever, republicans have never stood for what they claim. They have never cared about the Constitution, what's good for America, or had any desire to protect individual rights. From the local level to the highest office they always put their own ambition above the law of the land. Their speeches are always decorated by the language of liberty, but their grasp of their meaning always rings hollow.
When I reregistered, I was given a piece of paper with some markings on it representing my new "classification." It will be meaningless to me. If spoken the sound will also be meaningless. When I go to vote it will get me into a building where I will activate some virtiual buttons and hopefully register my vote.
Unlike most people who have given up voting or never voted because they see no point to it, I have voted in every primary and general election since 1980. That is because I want to participate in the "democracy" part of the "republic." There have occasionally been bond issues to vote for or some bums to throw out but I mainly go to show that I am paying attention. Many times I left empty cards or more recently blank screens for the robot monkeys who count the votes to puzzle over. I don't expect "democracy" to deliver any meaningful or workable solutions any time soon.
Nevertheless, I will vote in the PA primary. Then I will un-become a "republican" and return to my regularly scheduled life. Best wishes to liberty lovers everywhere.

I'm going to stay republican
and see if I can do something to reform the party from the inside. That's quite a challenge, and it's not for everybody.
yes
I registered to vote for Ron Paul. I vote for the man not the party.
Liberty is our campaigns gift to the world it is our manifest destiny.
Freedom is a movement who's time has come. Our campaign will lead world wide freedom.

Lucky you voting for Dr. Paul in the primary. I discovered him too late and was unable to change my independent affliation in time for the NY primary. I will proudly vote for him in November or write his name in. Knowing him as we all do and seeing his voting record, there is absolutely no one else. I'm so thrilled to vote for someone who I really believe in. When was the last time that happened? I love his integrity, I love his humbleness, I love his compassion, I love his wisdom, I love his knowledge of the constitution...I just love this guy:)

I dont care about your political affiliation.
You are welcome here.

Change
For those of us that joined the party just for RP I say to you, DO NOT GIVE UP SO EASY. I have never been active in politics before this year. I became a precinct committeeman, now have been elected a state delegate, and NATIONAL delegate. In my county we have 50% RP supporters going to the state convention, and ALL NATIONAL delegates going. IF we keep this kind of determination over the next 4 years, WE will BE the republican party. It is so easy to take control I have a hard time even telling you about it.
Instead of giving up, which is exactly what the neocons want you to do, stand and help take over the party. Ron Paul is right, the fastest way to WIN is a complete takeover of the republican party. They already have everything in place to win elections AND we get on the ballot automatically. I'm glad to see the libertarian party gaining strength, but just look at the real numbers, it took me and a few like minded new friends to almost completely take over the republican party in our county, just thing where we'll be in 4 years.
Actually history is against
Actually history is against you in this matter of taking over the Republican Party. More so than the matter of winning the presidency with a Third Party--which happened at least once.
There has not been a takeover of the GOP by conservatives to date. I consider the election of Ronald Reagan close, but no cigar. Throughout its history the GOP has been corrupt, statist and unconstitutional.

The Republican Party is
The Republican Party is little more than a hollow shell with some pithy rot left inside it. Weatherdoc is so right when he says we can take the party over. It is happening all over! I joined my local republican club and have felt the frustration in the old gaurd. I've watched them make speeches, straining to say good things about Juan McCain, and struggling to sound convincing. We cannot afford to be wallflowers! We must continue to educate and participate wherever possible. Let's restore the Republic by being Republicans, not Fed-up-licans.

Many feel the way you do
I think. I certainly am not proud to be a Republican at this moment. Actually, I too have been pulled into the Libertarian Party for many years, but I never understood all that is happening until now. I heard a little here, a little there--but not the whole entire mess that we have. I don't understand why they are still in power, but I guess it is because too many people still have not grasped the mess we are in.
I'm not a Republican or Democrat, I'm ME.

Thank you for your vote for
Thank you for your vote for a true American Patriot. We are in the very early days of the second American Revolution and I'm proud to be following our forefathers.
Someone, write something funny.
I really love this thread. Everything you said is what I have been thinking lately. It's like a kind of helplessness has settled upon me. After the September national convention I will change my voter registration card back to Independent. I believe that many people will do the same and we can at least send some sort of message to the Republican Party.
I can't entirely explain this helplessness. Ron Paul's new book is better than my words can express. Last Sat. at the district convention I was elected to a spot on the platform committee going to the state convention. That's good..... The problem is the way we were treated by our fellow republicans at the convention. The other problem is an email our Gop membership received from another republican in a leadership role about us. Of course I put him in his place. And some other republicans tried to as well. But it kind of just sickens me. The email was so bad that maybe it was intended to be.
I'm also thinking no other candidate will ever be good enough in future elections. Today I listened to the libertarian candidate Wayne Root make negative comments about our beloved Dr. I won't let that stand.
Now I'm struggling with the whole third party thing. Libertarian philosophy is what I have been researching lately, although I am strongly pro life. (BTW, Ron Paul as usual writes eloquently about the rights of the unborn in his new book.)
Also the whole polygamy thing..... While I can understand the libertarian freedom/coercion philosophy, it comes across on many polygamy forum topics here, that libertarians seem to promote this lifestyle. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it is just some who do.
Sorry for the negativity. I'm normally very positive. Maybe Pennsylvania will surprise us ........

By the way, the Fundament of the Waco II Texas Polygamy Case is not just the " Libertarian freedom/coercion philosophy ". What should shock our conscience is the affront to The Private Realm of Family Life. The Best Interests of Your Children is the expediency of the Village People ( ' It takes a village...' -- Hillary ) It is the argument of tyrants and the creed of slaves.

No
You are hearing a lot of "freedom" cries because we are being stripped of freedom. But certainly I DO NOT promote polygamy.
I think you are incorrect
I think you are incorrect about libertarians "promoting" polygamy. It's not libertarians promoting polygamy, we just happen to believe that everyone deserves freedom, liberty and has the right to decide for themselves how they will lead their lives.

john2k..
I agree with you. Freedom is about making our own choices, and it is also about taking responsibility for thoses choices, whether they are right or wrong in the eyes of the law. We have freedom of choice, but we must also realize we in America have man made laws that we must abide by at a state or federal level. How I would love to be back in Alaska fishing, and hunting, and not worrying about all the damn laws like we have in California. I can't wait to move back home to Alaska. We as a nation have way too many laws, and if we want to change that we have to get involved on a political level, no one will do it for us, we must do it ourselves, just as we have steered this campaign, the campaign has not done much but share the message, but we have the best part, we get to share that message with those that only watch the mainstream media via TV, or news print, and only know of the propaganda they have been fed over the past year.
But
With responsibility.
Really? I feel the opposite way

People are waking up to things I realized when I was fourteen. I am no longer a minority of one. It's very inspiring.

not much for the Lincoln balls, eh ?
And those authoritarian blue haired old ladies ?
One thing that might happen tomorrow - RP republicans will gain seats, maybe a lot, on the republican county committees, which are elected. tomorrow is our first crack at the local positions, and I'm anxious to see what happens. All the low hanging fruit will be ours because we are paying attention. Then the fun begins.
Yes sir.
Let the fun begin.
We can all say what needs to be done, but who here led by example today?
