News from the Nevada State GOP Convention!

This was posted on another thread. I hope ausscyn doesn't mind, but I took the liberty of starting a new one for incoming news from the NV. GOP Convention. There was a pre-rally Party this evening w/ Dr. Ron Paul & the Convention is bright & early tomorrow morning. He will speak at that as well.

News from the Nevada State Republican Convention!
On April 26th, 2008 ausscyn says:
Today, Friday, we had our State Platform Committee meeting. What a success it was! Some of the planks we passed will make you proud:
- Repeal of McCain Feingold.
- Fully Informed Juries
- Repeal of the Federal Reserve
- U.S. take back the minting of currency with a gold and/or silver standard
- Tighter controls & accountings of electronic voting machines
- Abolishment of Dept of Education
- A literal interpretation of the Constitution by our elected officials.
- No unfunded mandates
- Several states rights issues
and more. It's too late to run out to the car to get my notes, but it was very rewarding being on this committee. The Ron Paul people stuck together & many of their ideals were also those of the old guard. This Platform still has to be approved at the convention tomorrow, but I'll keep you posted. Dr. Paul spoke at a rally we had tonight at which many of the delegates were present. Pray that we accomplish our goal tomorrow to elect all our delegates to the national convention!!!! Maybe we'll win some more people over to our side when Ron speaks tomorrow. Everyone send all their best thoughts to Reno, Nevada!!!

For us who live in other states or even nations, this is the least we can do for our freedom fighters in Nevada.

This so-called journalism

This so-called journalism from the Las Vegas newspaper is totally bias. Diminutive Doctor? You have got to be kidding me.

Any NV News?

Are RP delegates still in Reno? Did people show at Peppermill, just in case? Any word whatsoever from the NV GOP?

Searching for updates -- any news of what's next -- I hit upon several "Waah waah; Paul Supporters Want GOP To Follow The Rules!"-type stories. Here are a few quotes on the NV Convention from the Las Vegas Sun newspaper...take out spaces if you want to use this url; I simply refuse to give it a link:
http://www. las vegassun.com/news/2008/apr/27/ron-paul-campaign-dominates-convention/

"They won a key procedural vote on the rules, and their boisterous presence created significant delays, causing the convention chairman, Bob Beers, a state senator from Las Vegas, to recess the convention without selecting delegates to the national convention."

Note that it says RP delegates "caused" Beers to call recess. Isn't this a kindergarten ploy? As in: "Mommy!! Billy was winning the checker game, so HE caused me to hit him in the face! See? I wouldn'tuh done that if it weren't for him! It's all his fault!!"

And if by "boisterous presence" they mean "demanded that the convention be held fair and square," then yes, those Republicans who support Paul did devote time to that pesky little act. They foolishly did not think to allocate their time to things like cute-sy movies mocking the Dems and other folderol; the RP supporters were there to (hellooooo!) VOTE.

"Paul supporters occasionally shouted down the chairman, then rocked the convention with noise when Paul, their diminutive doctor icon, appeared to rally them."

Stay classy, Las Vegas Sun. Do you ever describe InSane as a bulge-mouthed, bald-headed T-Rex?

[McCain adviser Robert] "Uithoven said Paul supporters were able to gain a strong foothold at the convention because McCain’s lean campaign team had racked up victories by relying on free media rather than paid staff or volunteers. The campaign is adding staff and getting organized, Uithoven said."

Easy, when you've got the MSM in your pocket!

That story is a load of cr@p

Delays, if you want to call them that, were the result of various things...

First, the meeting started late, almost 9:30 instead of 9:00. There were various presentations, people speaking, and videos that, frankly, weren't exactly top priority.

Then we had the situation where a small committee had chosen the list of potential national delegates in a way that many were not comfortable with. This appeared to be a move by the GOP establishment to control who could/could not be a delegate. Many of the delegates present yesterday said they had not received the packet in the mail which was their only way to have the form and information needed to apply to be a national delegate. The people in charge tried to blame it on the post office, but I don't buy that - there were a LOT of delegates who said they didn't receive the packet.

That's when we were eventually able to get the vote needed to allow delegates to be nominated from the floor (anyone present, not just the hand-picked pre-selected group). There were lots of motions and discussions that took quite a bit of time - partly because that's the nature of a large meeting like this, and perhaps some with less honorable motives.

One thing that probably saved HOURS of time was the adoption of the platform as developed prior to the convention by the platform committee without debating each individual plank. I was surprised at how conservative it was (looked like there was a lot of RP influence). It calls for a strict interpretation of US Constitution, repeal of Federal Reserve Act, demand to return to gold/silver currency, strict enforcement of all immigration laws, repeal Patriot Act, withdraw from UN, etc. I was amazed when the convention voted to accept it as written without going into a lengthy discussion/debate of each plank, as we had done at the Washoe county convention last month.

To blame the delays on RP supporters is simply dishonest. Oh, sure, if we had not been there, and had not needed to discuss and vote on things like rules and delegate lists designed to marginalize our participation, it would have taken less time. Between starting late, using a lot of time on low-priority activities, using time fighting the attempts by party hacks to railroad the process, it is ridiculous to think that everything could have been done by 5:00 or 6:00.

There were also a few attempts by the chair, in my opinion, to quickly sneak votes through. At one point a vote on something was made and everyone around me was puzzled as to what had just happened. There were also a few indications that those in charge had a bit of an attitude toward RP supporters - comments from the podium like "All you RP supporters be quiet; everyone else can talk, just the RP supporters be quiet." This is not the exact quote, but it is very close and you can hear it on one of the YouTube videos from the end of the day when things were getting out of control.

In my view they deliberately allowed the time to be wasted and run out, and I don't believe for one second that we could not have stayed later in that meeting room if they had wanted to. Even the materials I received when signing up as a state delegate mentioned that the convention could take longer than expected. I don't have it in front of me at the moment, but as I recall it even mentioned the possibility of a second day - which I, of course, expected to be the following day (today). Actually, I think most of us anticipated even early in the day that we would be there late into the night, based on the slow pace and the numerous low-priority activities.

There is no doubt in my mind that they are lying about the real reasons they shut it down in such an abrupt and unusual manner. The Nevada GOP establishment is a slimy bunch of dirtbags, IMHO.

Let me conclude on a positive note: Mike Weber, although not specifically a RP supporter, was an ongoing advocate throughout the day of fairness and transparency and following the correct procedures and rules. He is an expert on procedure, and frequently challenged the chair when the establishment was out of line. As a candidate for a NV assembly seat, he took a big risk and led the effort at the end to reconvene the convention when the GOP officials had left. He is smart, gutsy, and seems to truly believe in doing what's right even when it could cost him dearly. I'm not in his district, but I will definitely make a substantial donation to his campaign. He could use some encouragement and thanks from all of us. His website:

I was prepared to return to the Peppermill today if necessary, but after checking email, calling the hotel, etc. I saw nothing indicating that anything would be happening today.

This whole thing is stunning and sickening. Some of the guilty (who are running for re-election) will, I suspect, pay a heavy price for their actions. Hopefully Beers will be looking for a job later this year - and I intend to support his opponents so they can do their part to help him out.

Get a court injunction?

Tough to do, particularly on a Sunday, but it would sure help if delegates got a court injunction from a sympathetic state judge, requiring the GOP to reconvene the convention under terms most favorable to all delegates, including with plenty of notice to all concerned. Seems to me the convention should be reconvened at the Peppermill, since it was never properly adjourned, and the first order of business should be for the delegates to elect someone to stand in place of the chair because he refused to follow the rules.

Can a judge order a private

Can a judge order a private party to convene?

Electronic Voting must be ABOLISHED

We must go strictly paper and we should move for a TWO PARTY count for verification.

THIS IS THE ONLY WAY.

"The body is but a vessel for the soul,
A puppet which bends to the soul's tyranny.
And lo, the body is not eternal,
For it must feed on the flesh of others,
Lest it return to the dust whence it came.
Therefore the soul deceives and despises."

Two Party Count for Verification

I respectfully disagree. I think that representatives from any party that participate in the election should be present. Usually two parties are insufficient.

If Congressional District X had candidates running from party's A, B, C, and D; then representatives from all those parties should be present to observe the vote tallying process.

As for paper ballots, I strongly agree.

If they up & quit

& leave, then doesn't that mean we win by default????? ; )

Illegal

Where is Steve? He should know. There should be some provision or rule covering this illegal action.....

Ya

they cant just abandon the convention, whats the recourse?

The DP is proof that the grassroots support for Ron Paul and his peaceful message of individual liberty is large, real, and not going away!

Confirmation?

Has anybody contacted the Peppermill Resort Casino and asked whether the hall was actually booked only until 6:00pm? Because, see, that right there sounds mighty fishy. Who reserves a hall for a two-day long state convention...and doesn't book a full day devoted to the nomination process?

Are we to believe that the NV GOP thought enough of the "Boots and Rhinestones Ball" on the 25th to book through that night, but for the actual meat-and-potatoes portion of the convention....meh, not so much??

Wouldn't the length of the convention

be announced in advance? Certainly all delegates should have been notified of the entire timetable along with details like place and time! A second day is hardly something that could be left out of a convention announcement.

Sort of...

The materials I read regarding becoming a state delegate specifically stated that the convention might take longer than expected. I don't have it in front of me right now, but I believe it even specifically mentioned the possibility of a 2nd day if needed. Silly me - I was expecting that 2nd day to be today; not some unspecified future date 450 miles away in Las Vegas.

This stunt is especially disgusting when you consider that the majority of the 1,300+ delegates traveled at their own expense over hundreds of miles to get here. I am local (15 min. drive) and still feel cheated out of the $50 fee and all the expensive food and snacks bought during the day. I can only imagine what those who flew up from Vegas and stayed a couple nights must feel like. (Although at least they got to enjoy the beautiful local snow-capped mountain views and Northern Nevada hospitality - heh, heh!)

Multiple sources have sited

that the 6pm deadline was a complete load of crap.

They were losing, so the chairman said "I think I'll take my ball and go home."

Go back and get'em tomorrow.

Patriots from across this

Patriots from across this country are with our fellow Americans in Nevada. When your country needs you the most, will you be there?

Thanks Ohio!

I wish I could have done more this week.
But I am flat on my back with torn shoulder muscles. And a pinched nerve.
I couldn't even go to the convention.
But I am typing, blogging, and calling my butt off..
You should see the position I'm in, just so I can comfortably type on the laptop..(on second thought, maybe you shouldn't see this..LOL )

Us Nevadans feel your Ohio energy..thank you!

WE HAVE A CHANCE TO SWEEP THIS CONVENTION!! Rumor is that we WON 7 out of 9 CD delegates!

Just returned home from the

Just returned home from the convention. Somehow, when I left the convention I had a nice feeling of calmness coursing through me. It felt like we won. They panicked, they left
,and we won. That was the feeling. BUT - by the time I was finished driving home I was so pissed off I couldn't contain myself.

After seeing the people's notes who were counting the paper ballots for the congressional districts (before they were ordered to stop), there was this funny story.

We had 3 delegates up for grabs in 3 congressional districts. In my district #2, the counting became know as "The Three Amigos". Opening the ballots was, "The Three Amigos, The Three Amigos, The Three Amigos, The Three Amigos, The Three Amigos,John Doe, The Three Amigos" and on and on and on. It was an overwhelming count for 7 of 9 of them. This was first hand reading of the counters notes. There was 1 page of tallies for the 3 RP delegates (just tiny little hash marks). 4 page for the remaining 97 or so on the ballots, because every person needed their own line.

We never got to vote on the remaining 22 delegates (yet). I'm sure it wasn't going to be quite as funny when counting "The 22 Amigos, The 22 Amigos,...."

PLEASE, will you be going back

to continue the convention tomorrow at 8:30 AM?????? PLEASE you MUST go back and BE THERE!

How do you know it's tomorrow?

What have you seen or heard that makes you think it will continue tomorrow? I'll be glad to go back if there is some certainty that it will continue in the morning.

Great job to all the Nevada Ron Paul supporters out there.

I was hoping for some good news out of NV today, but this is bizarre. Do ya think anybody is pissed off in Reno tonight?

This IS good news

The Revolution lives. According to a delegate on the floor, RP supporters were sweeping everything. McAnus people cheated. It may or may not get media attention - yet. This will just fire the troops up more. By the time we get to the National Convention the CCM ~will~ be covering us. Count on it.

Oh,

my guess is that all of them are. Hope our guys are packing their bags for Las Vegas tomorrow.
