Tell us, oh enlightened one, what should we do? Who should we vote for in your opinion? I, for one, simply must know because I'm just another one of the sheeple willing to follow the advice of anyone professing to be smarter than everyone else, and clearly, you must be.

A McCain loss due to an obvious GOP grassroots flight to more limited government candidates, may well be worth 4 years of Obamanism, tragic as that will inevitably be. If the Barr / Baldwin / (Paul if on any ballots) tally is large enough, GOP strategists will have to at least be somewhat more accommodating to us next time around. Unless they are content to sit on the sidelines forever. And once we have a foot in the door, we’ll be a lot harder to paint as irrelevant extremists who’ll never amass enough votes to matter anyway.

Exactly. And, for those here who arent delusional with thoughts of conspiracy, an Obama presidency would be better than a McCain presidency. I doubt the GOP will change their policies too much, but seeing that there are people out there who a) left the party for a more liberal government (Obama) or b) want a more sensible conservative platform.
But, I think the neoconservatives have a firm grasp on the GOP. I would say that RP, Baldwin, Barr make their own party, but their existence as a boil on the ass of the Republicans is probably best.

Given a democratic congress, I’d much rather see McCain in the white house than Obama. None of them will do any good. Both will attempt to do a lot of bad. They probably can’t help it. That’s just who they are. Ergo, the more they are hampered by gridlock, the better.
Also, seeing how close the Supremes in Heller came to blatantly strip away the entire second amendment; giving a trashy, slimy, pandering-to-the-lowest-common-denominator, careerist scumbag like Obama any say in the selection of Supreme Court judges whatsoever, feels a bit like playing Russian Roulette with our cherished constitution. McCain ain’t all that, either, but I do trust his judgment just a tiny bit more.
That aside, though, if McCain’s loss came on the back of overwhelming support for smaller government candidates Barr, Baldwin and, if possible, Paul, the gamble may well be worth it. Which is why it is so damned important to show the Karl Rowes of the world that the GOP lost because their base wants them to champion smaller government, not because they haven’t gone far enough in their appeal to Kristol’s ‘liberals mugged by reality’. And that, unless Paul somehow manages to show up on a ballot, means voting for either Barr or Baldwin, regardless how phony and small-minded they may appear on some issues. And it also means specifically _not_, under any circumstance whatsoever, voting for some socialist, regardless of how eloquent or hip our mainstream media manages to make him appear.

If we get an Obama / McCain choice, we lost. There will be a very close election, they are the most entertaining. It will be so close maybe even Idaho's vote will count. If the CP or LP get even 2% of the vote added together it will be a miracle. Unless the Doc is on my ballot I'll likely vote for the LP candidate again anyway.

we only got 4 delegates, much less than expected. I had thought that we'd at least have a strong delegation from PA. until I got that news, I believed a majority in the convention was within our grasp, but I'm basically convinced that's over now.
I, too donated significantly in time and money to RP. There is no way any true Ron Paul supporter would vote for JM, HRC or BHO.
When Ron spoke @ Indiana University of PA a few weeks ago, he said he hopes a third party candidate would stand up who can be on the ballot this fall.
I hope Baldwin goes and gets the Libertarian party Nomination, and the two parties work together to get ballot access in all 50 states.
If Ron Paul wins the republican nomination, I'm fairly sure that the CP and LP candidates would step down (I talked to Mike Jingostan (sp?), and he said he wouldn't step down if Ron was nominated).
