Comment on the NV conventions from an NYC GOP insider
I thought this was a good report, and touches on a few key points on which I'll provide a few brief thoughts.
With respect to the McCain campaign being out-maneuvered by Paul supporters, does it really matter? McCain will be the nominee whether the traditional republicans somehow outfox Senator Beers and elect Ron Paul supporters to the national convention or not. Honestly, you don't matter.
On the issue of a New York City political machine running things, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Ms. Edinger's comment. I am in NYC, and just this Monday Vice President Cheney was in town for a few fundraisers (one with Energy investors that i didn't attend) and a quick rally-the-troops speech to the Manhattan Institute I believe. It's not that Senator Beers or any of the party leaders are somehow deviously connected to us in New York, it is that they feel part of something, something that has power, and this makes them feel like they're in the right.
Unfortunately, I hate to say it, Ron Paul's supporters, who are republicans, are really the true republicans here. At the same time, I don't blame the Nevada Republican Party leadership for not realizing these people are actually the traditionals, as for the past 40-50 years the Republican Party has quietly had their base platform completely distorted. As a party member, I know that not following the line here in New York quickly leads to "social banishment", if you will, with the party big-whigs. These Nevada party leaders enjoy their quick lines of communication to party leadership on the east coast, and they're not going to give up that sense of acceptance and power to re-examine what they believe to be the traditional republican party values. They're just human like us, afterall. Taking a few phone-calls from some nobodies in Nevada, giving them a rallying message and telling them we're with them, is a small price to pay to keep the State Republican Party in line with our new idealogy.
I applaud you Ron Paul Republicans. I wish I could join you, but doing so would quickly eliminate all my political connections. You are fighting much more than the "establishment", you are fighting an idealogical battle that has tainted the party's message. Every step along the way you will meet more and more resistance.
Good luck,
Charlie

Good Points Charlie
He is making some very valid points,
Paul supporters would do well to take heed and use a little bit more common sense before going off half cocked!
Ron Paul supporters will continue this movement.
We have plenty of common sense thank you very much.

Good Letter, but he will feel the Ron Paul Republicans in NY
soon.

Charlie hasn't got a clue
What Charlie doesn't realize in his report from New York is that this is just not happening in Nevada, Ron Paul supporters are taking delegates from every state and when the time comes, McCain will come up short on delegates when they call for the first vote at the Republican National Convention.
All I can say is keep pushing and keeping showing up to the caucuses and conventions. We are taking McCains delegates at a methodical pace and McCain literally has no support on the ground. He is getting no cash contributions, he is getting no crowds, he is crashing hard and he will fail. McCain is not a Republican, but he is everything that Republicans have contempt for. You have to remember, Party loyalist's would push Satan himself if he was the nominee, but you also have to remember that party loyalists are now a very tiny minority and can be easily outnumbered.
Here here, bedr1! We need
Here here, bedr1! We need to keep pushing forward with that same attitude and faith. McCain was shoved down all our collective throats with virtually NO popular support, and once that that particular naked emperor is exposed, he will crumble like our house-of-cards economy.
I think you are..
.. confusing "republican" with "conservative". McCain is not a conservative.
The Republican Party has been the home of liberals under the "big tent" for a very very long time. Nixon, Bush Sr., Rockefeller were all "liberal republicans" and "internationalist republicans".
There is nothing unusual historically about liberal republicans. Neocons are ultra-liberal republicans who pretend to be in the heritage of Reagan but are actually the opposite of Reagan's message...
Never give up, never
Never give up, never surrender.
Even though Charlie cannot openly support RP, maybe he helps us in other ways that we don't know about.
...
"Honestly, you don't
"Honestly, you don't matter."
If the Ron Paul supporters "don't matter", what's the point of all this resistance? I believe they do matter, more than many expect they do.
He's not saying..
.. that Ron Paul supporter's don't matter in general and for the long term.
They are not fighting us because they think it's some epic battle for the nomination. They assume McCain has the nomination.
They have been the GOP in Nevada for so long they are freaked out that they are being overwhelmed suddenly by "newcomers". He is saying that's what it is about for them. All of a sudden they are being challenged for control.
You have to take phrases and clauses in context of the whole text. =P
I think

he has become cynical and jaded, realizing the party is ruled by the bosses

Where are your "few brief thoughts"?
Or are you Charlie?

It was confusing because there were no quote marks
