Survival guide/book. What should I get

0 votes

I have made up my mind to start gathering up supplies for an emergency backwoods cabin. I need to know what guide/book(s) would be best. I dont want to kill a deer and not know how to skin it/carve, preserve it etc. How do I can? Generators, solar etc.

I figure a few hundred dollars on books is worth have an honest fihghting chance.

Thanks, Tim

I thought about the same thing, about survival. I think things may get bad and it's better safe than sorry. I have read several articles where people are selling off thier possesions just to survive. I dont know how people are going to cope at 4.00 and 5.00 gas prices. Especially people who live on fixed incomes. I live in a rual area, although I am close to town, I know people who are spending 200.00 a week on fuel just to make it too work! I bet you could also find alot of the books your looking for at the local library. I went online to a few survivalist websites and learned some cool stuff. I am also compiling a list. We need to start a thread about things that would be most needed etc.

Yes,,, I just got

the below book at a library book sale for 25 cents. (fiat money). I have a library of 3400 books, and 90 percent of them were acquired at yard sales for under a dollar each, over many years. Yard sales is where we get all of our clothes except work boots and underwear, and they are usually nice clothes, LLBean, and other good brands. I also have an incredibly well equipped kitchen, most of which was bought at yard sales, including canners, dehydrators, garden supplies, etc. you can get everything at yard sales.

Carla Emery's Encyclopedia of Country Living

Check it out on Amazon, you can actually look up stuff in it on there. It is huge, has down to earth information, and tons of it. Makes up for dozen other books. I even found it the only place where I could find out how to get rennet from plants (weeds), just in case i didn't have a calf to kill around when I wanted to make cheese! Like I said, it has EVERYTHING.

if you have regular access to computer you can find

and print off most anything you need to for free ...but if its books you want, i d just google basic survival tips, you should find a lot of references...i personally would keep that money and buy storable food or other supplies or perhaps some silver.....good luck, your thinking out of the box now, you have a good chance
