How Many Disasters Is Our "Economic Stimulus Package" Going To "Cure"?

Most recently President Bush remarked about our current gas price crisis in the US. "One way to help solve it, of course, is by sending some of the money back. That's what's happening now as we speak. There's a rebate going back to the American people, which should help," Bush said. He reiterated his call for Congress to make permanent the tax cuts enacted during his administration.

Then a month back this was supposed to help our US based companies. Bush said in his Saturday radio address that the checks, as well as incentives for businesses to invest in new equipment, will give the economy a "shot in the arm."

Then it was touted to help American families avoid foreclosure along iwth a nice 800 number for homeowners in trouble to call.

These rebates will return up to $600 for individuals, $1,200 for married couples, and $300 per child. As these rebates start to go out, a family of four could receive a tax rebate of $1,800.

How disconnected is this administration? First off, they are issuing checks to the American public with funds they do not have, but then they claim this stimulus package is going to cure everything from gas to housing to companies building again.

I completely support lower taxes and no taxes at all, but it's amazing to see how magical this government check is supposed to be. Just swallow the pill I guess.

If the Greater Depression hits, that rebate check should be able to buy us some of the food that we will not be able to afford as well I guess. Ron Paul, give the power back to the people please.

Compare it to...

Drawing a single bucket of water from the deep end of your pool and putting it into the shallow end...kinda pointless, don't ya think?

Far be it from me to look a gift horse in the eye...i'll take that $1500 (my total) and buy one oz. bar of gold bullion.

That means that my $900 bar of bullion is real stored value, and will not be affected in value when the inflation from this massive money print hits.

Inflation Acceleration Package

"Drawing a single bucket of water from the deep end of your pool and putting it into the shallow end...kinda pointless, don't ya think?"

It is less than pointless, actually. As the idiot staggers from the deep end to the shallow end, his bucket is slopping and spilling all over the deck, whereupon it is dried up in the sun -- the net result being a reduction in the overall level of the pool.

Governments cannot do good works. Whenever they try they end up doing more damage than good. It's Starkey's Law, sort of a reverse Midas Effect: "Everything the government touches turns to crap."

None

It will add to the problem. See my "I have prepared this" post.

Yeah, I remember reading that

Borrowing money so that others can spend. Isn't that what got us into the problem to begin with. It's kind of like givinga crack addict more crack in order to help him quit.
