Last year, in order to provide the American people with relief from high oil prices, I introduced the Affordable Gas Price Act (HR 2415). This legislation protects the American people from gas price spikes by suspending the federal gas tax whenever the national average gas price exceeds $3.00 per gallon.

Ok, i know i will get flamed for this, but I am not completely with Ron on this one. While I'm all for getting rid of taxes, if you don't deregulate and de-tax oil's competitors, aren't you just sort of further encouraging malinvestment since you are giving a government based competitive advantage to a specific energy source?
On another note, i was reading somewhere (and I can't remember now) that the oil companies had bought up the patents for promising forms of alternative energy to strangle their development. Anyone know if this is true?
