lol, I just had this idea too.....

Good thing I did a search.

Anyway, here's my email to The Late Show.

Dear Late Show,

I felt compelled to write you this email on behalf of
Republican Presidential Candidate Ron Paul.

First and foremost, let me assure you that I am a fan
of Dave Letterman, and have been watching for years.
I am also an ordinary guy, 31 years old, that would
normally have NOTHING to do with politics. It seemed
to me that politicians were all corrupt and voting
was like choosing the lesser of two evils. I didn't
want anything to do with it, so I never even
registered to vote, until now.

This video showed me that one candidate actually still
cared about America.

It appears that David Letterman was a fan of Ron Paul
in 1988, when he ran for President, as a Libertarian.

Ron Paul would surly bring in great ratings for your
show, as his support grows on a daily basis. He has
been in the news most notably for raising 4.3 Million
Dollars in 24 hours on November 5th. Just recently,
on December 16th, he brought in another 6.2 Million
Dollars, again, in 24 hours. Due in part to these 2
amazing days, Ron Paul will be #1 in fund raising for
the Forth Quarter. As amazing this already is, the
most amazing part is neither Ron Paul or his campaign
had ANYTHING to do with the events. They basically
happened spontaneously. Also, very recently and very
spontaneously, a blimp was launched that will aid Ron
Paul's campaign.

He has a lot of true American "Grassroots" support,
and they LOVE to watch their guy on T.V.

Please have Ron Paul as a Guest on The Late Show with
David Letterman. I believe it would be an excellent
interview and interaction. I also believe you would
have a LOT of viewers on that night.

Thank You,
W. Stone

I feel you're concern is

I feel you're concern is quite valid. To that end, Ron Paul has such a quick wit that would resonate with Letterman's viewers.

Tough Forum

I'm not saying Paul shouldn't go on Dave, but I'd have concerns about his ability to handle the format well. Leno is a true professional and a gentleman. He goes out of his way to make sure his guests are comfortable and prepared. You can be sure that Jay understood he was dealing with a 72 year old guest who doesn't watch television and had no idea who Tom Cruise or the Sex Pistols were. I'm not sure Ron would "get" Letterman's sarcastic humor, and worse, Dave is known for not really working with guests or caring whether they end up looking silly or not. Yeah, if all they talked about was the Iraq War, things might go swell. It's when they stray from that that has me concerned. I'd actually be far more comfortable with him going on Conan or Jimmy Kimmel. They might be "edgier" with their humor, but they don't have a mean streak. If Dave really likes Ron Paul, things could go great, but we don't know that he does, and if he doesn't, it could end up being a disaster. Very high risk move.

After the tremendous turnout

After the tremendous turnout and response from the Tonight Show, they are probably trying to book him as we speak. It's all turning around.

5% of people make things happen
10% of people watch things happen
85% say "What happened?"

Other addresses

Done! We also have been pushing for Conan, Carson Daily, The View (email and physical addresses) etc.. at this link:

Let's get letter writing! Emails are great, physical letters are better... let's do both!

Ron Paul for President 2008

Ron Paul 2008

a good mix

It would be a good mix, Dave's against the Iraq War.

Check out this click from when Bill O'Reilly went on his show.

"Maybe we're causing more trouble over there than the whole effort has been worth"

Bill O'reilly tried to make it a black or white issue of "Do you want America to win or don't you?" and Dave wasn't falling for it.

Haha, yeah I remember

Haha, yeah I remember watching that when it aired. I liked the last exchange:

O'Reily: It's an easy question, do you want the US to win or not?

Dave: It's not easy for me, because I'm thoughtful.

Exposure is Good!

I think it would be great! Dr Paul can handle it! It isn't his first time out. Name recognition is a big issue. It also ought to be an easy sell because like I've mentioned before, Ron Paul is like Princess Di---you cover him and your ratings spike. And we all know TV is about ratings. What about SNL? That would reach so many and really compared to the Sex Pistols or the Adam Curry Show......he can handle it.

I would like to see Ron Paul

I would like to see Ron Paul on David Lettermen.
Let's see if the spam bots help us out here. Or are they debate specific?

Go Ron Paul!

none are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.

Better Interviews

I think interviews like this are even more important than the debates because they reach a broader audience, not only by numbers but by demographics. And what's really sad is that he gets better interviews from comedians than he does by actual news people and debates.

Comics are sometimes simply better journalists.

For example:

http://avirubin.com/vote/ the Jon Stewart link at the bottom of Professor Rubin's voting page covers e-voting security issues better than ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, Fox News, etc. have ever done it IMO.

The fact that their coverage is also hilarious is not able to fully-mask the fact that it also happens to be superior journalism to anything the aforementioned networks have ever done on the subject. When I point out THAT fact it annoys journalists like this Time-dweeb (hey, he called me "a nerd"!).
JMR

no, comics are...

...simply better entertainers, and that is what bill o'reilly is.

he's not journalist.

no

I disagree, he is neither.

Subject line

I heard that the Lettermen interns, or whoever it is that reads the emails, are systematically deleting all emails with Ron Paul as the subject line (I guess because of the huge influx of RP emails they have received lately). I don't how valid this info is, but I have stopped putting Ron Paul as the subject on some of my emails when sending to the larger and more established organizations, CBS etc.

There's a clip on YouTube

There's a clip on YouTube you can dig up from '88 where Letterman says he's voting for the libertarian candidate, Ron Paul. I hope he's still on that page!

won't you?

David Letterman

Is very sarcastic with his guests and not like Jay Leno. I don't think he would be so kind to Dr. Paul. I just think he would give Dr. Paul a rough time. He may have supported him in 1988 but I don't know about now. GO RON GO!!!

dodobogo

Erroneous! Erroneous on both accounts!

What are you worried about? I don't even know what you're talking about actually. Dave is just different. He doesn't have a problem going dry or dark. It's just what comedians do sometimes. I think his dry sense of humor is very funny. Some of his best interviews I think are interviews with other comedians who go dry as well. A recent example was when Larry David was on. Anyway, what are you even saying? That he's nasty and cruel? You may wanna check that sensitivity. Dave is just different and not at issue with pushing the envelope a little bit.

I should add

look up self-deprecating humor.

Hard to know his attitude

We know David Letterman was very sympathetic to libertarianism, but the temporary insanity that gripped the country after 9/11 was strongest in New York City, and Letterman was personally impressed by the way Giuliani handled himself that day (Rudy had put the emergency response center in the World Trade Center, and when it was hit, had to meet outside instead, which turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to him). He also was touched that Giuliani called him and asked him to go back on the air as soon as possible to help the city recover. Personal connections like that can affect judgment.

But as time has passed, the public seems less and less willing to abandon everything this country represents in terms of liberty for a little temporary feeling of safety, and that has undoubtedly happened to New Yorkers as well. Has enough time passed for Letterman to regain his senses and the libertarian views that were so appealing to him? Maybe.

One of Letterman's best bits

One of Letterman's best bits is "Great Moments In Presidential Speeches," which starts with a few famous ones, usually from Democrats (FDR, JFK, etc.), and ends with Dubya stumbling over his words. Dave seems to get a big kick out of it; I wouldn't peg him as a supporter of anything remotely neo-con-ish. He probably just has a friendly relationship with Guliani on a personal level, which wouldn't be surprising considering his status in NYC.

“Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.” --John Quincy Adams

That's ok.

I don't think David would give too hard of a time. But even if he did, it's ok. Ron Paul can handle it and the exposure would be great. RP himself even said it's not him but the message that's so powerful.

their Ratings will skyrocket
