Barter (or trade) ...exchanging goods and services. I encourage you to check this out.

Hey fellow DP’ers, I really want you all to know about this new barter company I have been working with. I don't work for them, I am just a happy client..

It's a barter system that you all might want to check out. They are not in every city or in every state but they are growing quickly and with the way the economy is going they may just help to keep most people afloat during the “non-recession” :) --just a side note, they do sell franchises and my broker here in Greenville, SC (who happens to be a RP supporter) is doing so well he bought another market.--

Barter, or trade, is a cashless system of exchanging goods and services. In any business it’s converting supply and/or services into thousands, even millions, of dollars in sales and purchases.

There is a company called Tradebank. With thousands of businesses participating it’s easy to find any product or service you or your business may require. Historically, having two companies who swapped products and services of equal value was the only way to experience the benefits of trade. For example: I sell advertising you want and you offer landscaping services I need. For my advertising services you agree to provide maintenance on my yard. Unfortunately, things don’t always work out so smoothly and people are limited on their bartering options. Tradebank provides a revolutionary trade tool for businesses everywhere. No longer do companies have to search for direct trade relationships. With Tradebank’s Cashless Commerce, businesses can benefit from an extensive network where products and services are traded 24/7.

You would have the freedom to purchase exactly what you are looking for by simply trading your goods or services. At Tradebank, clients have the flexibility to use their “trade dollars” earned to purchase what they want or need from thousands of businesses within the worldwide Tradebank network (The “trade dollar”, or trade credit, is equal to one cash dollar in the country where it is earned.) Using the previous example: I offer advertising, you offer landscaping service. However, I don’t need your service, what I need is a new sign for my delivery vehicle. Well, I can trade you advertising for “tradebank cash” and spend it with a local business who takes trade dollars to make me that sign. Maybe the sign person takes his new trade cash and goes out-to-eat at a participating restaurant with his new trade dollars

Tradebank provides a platform where trades come together for their clients, much like a clearinghouse does for stocks, or a commercial bank does for checks. Just like any brokerage firm, Tradebank receives a small commission on each transaction. The service includes sending you new business on a continuing basis, facilitating your purchase requests, and automating the bookkeeping for each trade transaction. Plus, all transactions are credited immediately, so there are no receivables, collection efforts, or bad debts involved.

I am a member and took in over $1600 in trade last month (I am using to get some dry-wall fixed in my house). I highly advise anyone to check them out at www.tradebank.com

In our failing economy it’s good to have American dollar alternatives.

It's not a perfect system-- but it helps.

I share the same concerns

as sobrdup below.

Tradebank is not democratic and appeals to greed. Our money supply should be democratic. That why we fought the War for Independence - against the private central Bank of England.

What prevents Tradebank from offering a phoney service and then "trading" it to friends to fraudulently credit their accounts? Are the books open?

The purpose of bartering clubs is to keep resources circulating locally. Is this the purpose of Tradebank? Or does it perpetuate the same old paradigm of getting rich by selling out your local resources to the global market?

Here's a better system based on locally grown food kept in a warehouse:

I'm not getting what your concern is? I sell ads in my

publication for a set price and receive trade dollars from my client. Then I take those trade dollars and fill my prescription at Fowlers pharmacy here in town, paying with trade dollars. Then the owner at Fowlers takes the trade dollars he just received and buys dinner at Brick City Grille. Then Brick City Grille turns arround and buys advertising from me.
There are no phony services. Tradebank is in the business to make FRN's and recieve 12% on the dollar every time you spend your trade dollars.

Bartering Should be an Open process

That's why I've started writing software to enable anybody to start their own bartering system anywhere. It's Open Source. If you have git feel free to download it from github: http://github.com/m3talsmith/barter

It's barely even started currently. It's my sunday project. But I will be completing it rather quickly.

I just want to help people be free.

Sounds fantastic.

I will eagerly sign up.

That awesome

Thanks. I will make sure everyone here knows when it's launched. Not only will I be launching it as a service, I will help others get it setup, and the code is open and free.

Bump for: voterp

Mathew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

A post encouraged by me (blush)

Thank you...I am honored..

And may I add something?

It is called thoughtfullness and humanitarianism...

If you can make someone happy or simply surprise them with a kind jesture...You will be amazed at the future benefits that come...Personally, I don't like being on the receiving end...Very uncomfortable...

But I don't mind throwing my waitress a $20 tip after overhearing how she's been stiffed all morning...Or giving a deep discount for a struggling family at my business...Or (when I was in the casino business) working over time for someone...Or working in their place..and a million others ways you can make another person's life easier....

Sound like a sucker..don't I?

For example: a normal customer comes into my store every week for a rat to feed her snake...This week she wants a mouse...Why? Because she doesn't have enough money..

I box up the rat at her protest and say" Pay me when you can...I trust you." ......She does and more...

She remembered this... and that is the reason I get free newspapers at my house in the morning when she delivers.
It's the resaon I get free hotel rooms, free meals, haircuts, oranges, popcorn at the movies, pizza, wine, birthday cakes etc...

Because when you give out of the goodness of your heart and because you want to make someone happy...and NEVER expect back...It does come back a hundred fold..

Trust me.

PS...

I do draw the line with lending money and babysitting..I don't do either...

Love ya Kat, hang in there.

WARNING WARNING!!!

It is dangerous to carelessly define money. Beware that this system DOES have the potential to be manipulated VERY EASILY. This is almost the same situation we have with our non-backed fiat dollars under control of private bankers! SOMEBODY made Tradebank, maybe just 1 or 2 people. What is to stop them from magically filling their own account with "$Trade dollars"? Nothing would stop them. They would be immediately wealthy in regards to ALL individuals/businesses that participated in the system. This has the potential to result in a devaluing of the "trade currency" meaning that everyone that participates would work harder for less "money". In other words, they can skim the value of the labor and goods off the system! The more individuals that participated, the more powerful and wealthy they would become. Imagine if the entire U.S. used "trade dollars". That would mean that you would have no choice but to participate in their system, under their full control, to do any money related activities!

My husband and I joke

that they are their own FED. They collect a % of dollars traded. It's not a perfect system but it is nice to compete with the FED :)
But if I own a restaurant and run a 30% food cost, then take in customers on Tradebank dollars, I am actually only paying 30 cents on the dollar. For now, it works pretty good. I get your point and will heed your warning but I still am going to take advantage of the benifits they offer.
PLUS an added benefit is that I gain customers. When I need a service or product, I don't open my phone book first, instead I go straight to my tradebank book. They have everything from sewing machine repair to dentists to web designers. Right now I am very satisfied.

Mathew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Okay, so be it!!! But wait,

Okay, so be it!!! But wait, I'm going to start MY OWN trade site and currency, and start listing businesses and participants. I'll let you know when it's ready. I'll be very rich in my new currency very soon.

That's why you try it out first

and you're not locked in. They provide a networking service and charge a brokerage fee, which should be reasonable and if it's not people won't buy. They aren't a multinational conglomerate of the wealthiest people, from their site they're just trying to help people swap goods and make some money doing it.

You can THINK that's why they

You can THINK that's why they are doing it. Do you know for sure? Of course not, and they CAN create $Trade Dollars anytime they feel like it, including for themselves and friends at any point in the future. The problem is not necessarily them per se, it's that there is no check in place to keep them from manipulating the currency should they choose to do so.

If they understand monetary policy

they would know they would be destroying themselves.
Besides it not like the FED. It is backed by trade and goods. I understand your point, it COULD become corrupt, but it's not right now and it works so relax. If you don't like it don't use it. If you want to buy a market, it's $30,000 I think.
Do you have a better alternative? I am offering people an option, people who have been hurt by the fall of the dollar and the economy going bust.

Cool

I kind of felt it might be tabu to post. But I have just been so pleased with it I had to share.

Bump, post fell into the great RP abyss.

I guess nobody cares to get away from the FED.
This isn't a perfect answer, but a good one at the moment.
