Bob Barr is a Libertarian - Really?

0 votes

I don't know if anyone else would agree with me on this, but I started to do a little bit of research on this guy, and I realized that I don't like him.
IMO, he is not a Libertarian. He's a supporter of the War on Drugs and he voted for the Patriot Act ( although he says he regrets voting for it).
I've never heard his radio show and in truth do not know much more about him. But I feel that he is something of distraction. He enters the race around the time Dr. Paul is once again beginning to gain some media attention. What do you all think about him?

r3VOLution Continues...

Bob Barr

So...Bob Barr isn't a "real" libertarian. Well Ron Paul isn't a "real " republican either then is he? He is a LIBERTARIAN REPUBLICAN. Maybe that is how we can define Bob Barr. A LIBERTARIAN REPUBLICAN. So, Treg, who advocates voting for OBAMA, a traitorus idea to put forth to the Revolution! What's the difference in voting for Ron Paul ...a LIBERTARIAN REPUBLICAN vs Bob Barr a LIBERTARIAN REPUBLICAN? How can you love one and hate the other? So? are you a Libertarian? or a Republican? Or a little of both?

With new information, people adjust their worldview constantly. I know I sure have. I was a Republican less than a year ago. When I found Ron Paul...I got new information that changed my worldview. Don t you think that is possible for Bob Barr...or anyone else? Sure it is.

Bob Barr offers the BEST chance to compete with the two major parties. I don't know much about Ruwart, but IF you want the Libertarian Party to become a real force against the two corrupt parties, you might have to adjust your worldview. I find it abominable that anyone in the Ron Paul movement would suggest we all rally to OBAMA! If it continues...many will leave this website...that's for sure. I will be one of them. I hope I dont' get banned...but I am actually appalled. RON PAUL 2008 Jazzloversinc

actually Ron Paul is

the first REAL republican to come along in a LONG time. (actually he's been there all along as the rest of the party sold out around him over the years) I personally refuse to recognise most of the so-called Repubs currently holding office- theyre that far from the original core-values of our party.

I've been reading up on

I've been reading up on Barr's nomination.

Barr won the voting process in a close race because of neoconservative Wayne A. Root --he dropped out and endorsed Barr. Before doing that Mary Ruwart had Barr beaten by five votes and was going to win. Root pledged his numbers to Barr, so Barr cheated Ruwart of victory.

This is dirty pool---Barr won because of Root. In essence, Root chose Barr to win.

And Wayne Root is a pro-war Neoconservative.

One more ethical blow in a long list of them against Barr.

Not dirty pool

Just politics. I was there and saw it firsthand.

Barr got a majority on the sixth ballot by 10 votes.

Root got a majority on the second ballot by 3 votes.

But Barr is no Ron Paul, nor any R3VOLutionary.

He's not even a Libertarian. He doesn't get the First Amendment at all.

Bob Barr isn't a Libertarian Republican.

He's a NeoCon Libertarian.

Ron Paul "Sign Wave Across the USA" -- November 5th!

That would be a contradiction in terms

Unless you live in Donderoland.

If you have not

met Bob Barr personally and spoken with him on these issues, or with someone who has, then I suggest you do more homework.

The Marijuana Policy Project endorses Barr for his hard work over the last several years in defense of Medical Marijuana.

If Barr had NOT voted for the PATRIOT ACT, then he would not have been on the conference committee and would not have pushed through the sunset provisions. We'd have been stuck with the full blown act from day 1 if it weren't for Barr. Learn how Congress really works before you spout off.

Barr wants to repeal the federal provision of the DOMA he authored. He claims it is being misused against its original intent, and sees now, that the only way to fix it is by repealing it.

Barr was targeted by the GOP for ouster when he balked at the PATRIOT ACT and he became critical of the Bush Administration. He comes from a socially conservative state and background, but overall he's one of us.

Remember, he wanted to impeach Clinton, not for the sex scandal but for treason. (look up info on China and BCCI)

He did lead the case against Clinton as it was in the impeachment trial.

Be skeptical all you want, but make sure you do your homework.

I support Dr. Paul in his quest for the Republican nomination, but Barr already will be on the ballot in 48 if not 50 states in November. If you want a real shot at taking the White House from Obama or McCain, Barr is your best bet at the moment.

Besides, can you think of a better scenario than Bob Barr vs. Ron Paul vs. Barack Obama in the debates?

Adrien Monteleone
Chairman - Libertarian Party of Louisiana

Sorry, Adrien, you have it wrong.

Barr never saw the PATRIOT Act before it went to conference committee, because only three Congressman and one Senator had actually seen the bill before voting on it. The Senator was Pat Leahy. The Congressmen were Paul and two others, and Barr was not among them. The whole sunset thing is an excuse.

I know this because I got my copy of the bill from Paul's office and used it to wipe the floor with a Republican local radio show host at the time,

Barr was not targeted by the GOP for ouster because of the PATRIOT Act. He was targeted by the LP for ouster because of his Drug War stance and his involvement in the Fort Hood Wiccan incident.

Lastly, his involvement in the Clinton impeachment effectively killed any shot of the LP getting the disaffected left vote.

Sorry, the LP shot itself in the ass on this one.

If Newt Gingrich was the

If Newt Gingrich was the Libertarian nominee, and his running mate was Dick Cheney, I wouldn't need to do 'homework', or meet him personally to know where I stand.

'Libertarian' does not describe Barr or Root. 'Conservatoid', perhaps. Not Libertarian.

If you are this confused about what is and isn't a Libertarian, may I suggest, Adrien, that you are the one who needs to engage in more self-education..?

I have a problem with the whole "they blackmailed me ..

into supporting the Patriot act" thing. What else will he do that he secretly disagrees with for our "best interests" ? and why wasnt Ron Paul vulnerable to being bullied into comprimising HIS principles? Maybe Barr will agree to go to war with some sovereign nation, secretly disagreeing, so he can be in a position to make sure he can take care of us and it it quickly. Im not saying that Barr is a bad candidate- I just dont see him as a "good" one. RP gave me some pretty high standards.

I agree--all the whimpering

I agree--all the whimpering about that just makes Bob Barr (and his supporters) look even worse.

I would rather hear something along the lines of "Okay, I screwed up. I will rectify this by committing my life, fortune, and sacred honor to repealing or nullifying the Patriot Act. It's my #1 campaign issue and I promise to overthrow the Patriot Act as soon as I'm inaugerated President."

I don't we'll hear anything like that, though, because I do not believe he's sincere.

Agreed.

Ditto on DOMA and Fort Hood.

Stating the obvious.

I go to bed BillyDee is still here. I wake up and all day long Billydee is commenting. I am here a lot and keep count for fun. His account has been logged nonstop since day one. Either multiple people are using his account or the man is a machine. Either way he only talks about Bob Barr and nothing else. Is it wrong for me to assume that he is not here for the Ron Paul movement. Honestly Folks.

I support Barr

Paul says on numerous occasions that he will endorse McCain if McCain changes his mind on everything. Why would Paul say that? Maybe he is trying to tell us something. I support Barr.

Ron Paul has never spoken in riddles

ever.

Hardly a riddle

I see you avoided answering my question.

Paul never tells people what to do. He says unsolicited advice is the worst kind. Instead, Paul LEADS BY EXAMPLE.

Here's another example. Romney was Pro-Choice until this election cycle. Ron Paul rewarded Romney by refusing to debate Romney's Pro-Life credentials.

Its kind of clear though

"Dr Paul..would you consider endorsing John McCain?" "Well..if he pulled his head from his a**, changed all of his policies, apoligised for violating McCain-Feingold, took a bath, WITH soap, denounced half his career accomplishments, and WATER, stood for vets...yes I suppose Id endorse him". Compared to McCain yes Barr is St Agnes.

Regardless, if you vote for

Regardless, if you vote for anyone but McCain, Obama wins. We have the best opportunity now in this race to influence the platform. So, get influencing!

If Ron Paul asks us to vote for Barr Id probably do it

Until then he has no place in Ron Paul's Forum.

Paul has said he wants

us to decide for ourselves who to vote for. Seems like he wants to avoid his fans seeing him as a cult leader.

Dr. Paul did say though that Barr is an ally (http://www.newsweek.com/id/139448/page/1)
and would do "a very good job" as president (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5YaqKf-yTg).

NO!

Way!!! bar Barr!
I don't mind waiting for a better idea.

The DP is proof that the grassroots support for Ron Paul and his peaceful message of individual liberty is large, real, and not going away!

gah you know what I mean...

If Ron Paul ended his candidicy and endorsed someone else- that would mean that he is alligned with him on key issues (he's not yet done that for anyone) IF he did- Id be inclined to see that as an option. As long as Ron Paul wants the job he will have my vote- write in or not. We're a hot commodity right now- the Obama people will be trolling our site just as shamelessly as you really soon.

But Paul has said

that he's not going to file for write-in status. So a write-in won't even be counted. His run is over after McCain in nominated and the general election starts.

Barr is no Ron Paul

If I were an employer looking to fill a management position (which we all are really) and the 3 applications were all criminals who had no clue how to do the job- I wouldnt make the conscious effort to hire one just so the other 2 worse choices wouldnt be working for me.

What don't you like about Barr?
