wonder if this will be deleted as its a little off topic, just read another thread by lisa talking about cooking black eyed peas and it reminded me of some thoughts ive had for a while,,i have a very large family ,many mouths to feed.with the economy on a nose dive and food rationing in our future i often think of ways to feed many people with few ingredients ,little money with the most nutrition.one i came up with is rice and bean soup,, soak beans overnite cook several hours over low heat,,add enough water to make lots of broth add rice to desired consistency,i would also throw in some vegetable or chicken boulion and any fresh vegetables i had at the end of cooking(the less you cook vegetables, the more nutrients they hold) you could feed A LOT of people with a one pound bag of beans and a two pound bag of rice.

I understand economics.
There is no imminent depression on the horizon, thanks to the Fed increasing the money supply. There is a a tradoff, though, which is increased inflation. But, that's preferable to a depression. Eventually a recession will be induced in order to scale back the inflation if it's too excessive.
The mistake that the Fed made back in the 1920's which brought on the Great Depression is that they didn't increase the money supply. See Milton Friedman's writings for an explanation. Bernanke astutely knew not to repeat the same mistake.
The purpose of derivatives is to hedge risk. Derivatives are exactly what prevents economic calamities. Most of those who lose money trading in derivatives are speculators. Risk is diversified and spread out, thanks to derivatives.

When my dad died she got a 200.00 "death benefit." She lost his 1600.00 a month social "security" income for the rest of *her* life though. Even though they both paid in *all their lives* (as will we) and he died at 66 years old. Yeah, that seems fair......you seriously need a dose of reality dude and you will get it, I'm sure...pride always comes before the fall....

The dollar has been slowly diluted for the last hundred years. That doesn't cause depressions. Read all the free market economists who have analyzed the Great Depression. It was brought on by an international tarrif war, the Federal Reserve contracting the money supply, and the New Deal.
Bernanke is simply a guy doing his job. He has to use the only tools given to him. We don't have a free market money system. We have a central banking system. SOMEONE has to take the job. It might as well be someone who knows what he's doing.
I guess you would prefer that interest rates stayed high, the stock market crashed, and the economy went to hell, right?

i had a nursing career of two decades and then went on to recieve national certification in massage therapy, all the while working nites and raising five children, i know a little about making a dollar work.why you come to this site with so much hostility at times makes me wonder, i mean you entered this particuliar thread with a very nasty attitude directed at all of us, i think a bit of humility is in order .i mean i read a comment on yours from another thread,,i think it was about the economy and you sounded reasonable there,,so what up?i mean this thread was just for people trying to anticipate harder times and make the best of it, what is your issue with that?
