Goldwater Jr publicly supports McCain
I know Im new here but I was at the Orange County General GOP Meeting this week with the guest speaker being Barry Goldwater Jr.
While I am not familiar with Mr. Goldwater's views, I was under the assumption that he supported Dr. Paul for President. Myself and the rest of the meetup group were shocked when he said that we need to drop foolish things and get behind one candidate.
One brave member stood up and asked him why he changed his support, to which he replied: "First we get him into office, then we change him..."
Im not sure on his logic however. I am new to the group so Im not sure how this all works. The whole meeting seemed like one big book signing rather than a debate on issues. Oh well, we fight on right? The meeting was filled with candidates who are pushing for central committee positions and I wish them the best of luck.
Oh, and I registered GOP that day too. Thanks Dr. Paul for giving me hope.

Whether someone is "new" here cannot be ascertained by checking their account information. My own account info says I've been here 19 weeks and 6 days, although you can still dig up posts of mine from a year ago (case in point, here is a Google cache file showing my presence here in May 2007).
Length of time as shown by our account info says nothing about our allegiances. This is neither an endorsement nor a denouncement of what some "new" folks are saying; merely a statement that opinions are not to be based upon the alleged length of time registered on DP.
Now, that being said: if this is a confirmed statement that Goldwater Jr. made, then he is off my "good guy" list.

Unless you’ve seen the kind mass stupidity he always has to face, you cannot even begin to imagine to the type of low-level embarrassment and sheer lack of aceptence he might have experience. That stupid acceptence/authority mix is like a “high.” If you’re weak of character, you’re drawn to that feeling. I realize that’s no excuse. That’s just the reason.

He has another option called a write-in. Maybe he does'nt believe in that or he's just soft and will vote for the lesser evil for the sake of voting. I don't understand his logic at all.

This is what being a good 'party' member is about right now. Swallowing your beliefs and what you know is right to stay in good graces and I dispise it. The only point I can fault Paul on is wanting to work through the GOP. They have rejected their past conservative agenda and spit on us when we tried to continue it.
Let the bastards sink and start our own party - the conservative party. When we face the collapse pretty soon, the political lines are going to be redrawn.

Yep. My little GOP party
Yep. My little GOP party mentioned that same thing to me and I scoffed. They said they wanted Huckabee but they were "swallowing" (same thing!) and voting for Mickey to unite the party. I told the chairman that I guessed he could do that since he wanted Huckabee,,but that I would not vote for any liberals, much less one that fundraised in England. Then I went back to helping out on the Lincoln Day BBQ they are having, so they were glad I was there to help so the conversation stopped. I was REALLY mad today, anyway. In order to vote my preference for county judge, I had to vote on a Democrat ballot! The two judges running were democrats, so you could not pick one if you did not vote on the Democratic ballot. THEN my despised unconstitutional-voting senators were running with NO Republican opposition of any kind.Of course I refused to enter a vote for them, and GUESS WHAT? The damned Diebold checked the box for me anyway, and put a vote in for them!!! Then they told me that that was how it worked when they were running unopposed! I had just sent both of them a letter today about the Enumerated Powers act and how they better vote for it, and guess what? I was FORCED (after showing my ID, and being on their list, and signing their paper ) to cast my vote for those jerkoffs, because they are unopposed. The machine even said "you have not completed the ballot, please go back or press confirm". I pressed confirm and the receipt thing showed I cast a vote in every area I did not. I was incensed. Too bad for me. It costs over $10,000 just to the state to run for senator....

Someone is doing something to "get" to these people I think. I do not know why..perhaps threatening the positions they already hold, or something. It's like the bible story where the Jews were told to deny their God or die. So everyone denied. Guess they figured they could say it out loud, but not in their hearts. Hannah and her 7 sisters would not deny, so they got killed on the spot. They still tell stories about Hannah, but the Jewish race lives on. Which way was better? I know Goldwater's heart has not changed.
