UPDATE: NV Convention
Just heard on the radio that the NV GOP is declining the offer of free meeting space at the Grand Sierra on June 7th. Reasons given appear to be that they are working on their own date and the donation is too grand to accept. Hogwash.
Please everyone let's be very polite but contact everyone you know in Nevada to alert them to contact their County Chairs, Sue Lowden, Bob Beers, the press at all levels. If we don't bring them around in a day or two, the opportunity will be lost.
Here's what I received this AM:
ACTION NEEDED NOW:
1) Contact your county and state GOP offices. Right now, they are trying to say that the 7th is a bad time-- that only a few will show up. Tell them that the 7th IS a good day, and that you WANT to do it then. Take that excuse away from them-- there is no good reason we can't hold it on the 7th. Be polite, but firm-- remember, they're trying to stop YOUR vote! No Mail-In Ballots Either!!!
2) Continue to bombard the press. Let them know you're not content with Zac Moyle's ridiculous refusal.
Here's the website for Ron Paul Nevada:
http://nevada4ronpaul.com/
I am a Nevadan for Ron Paul. As a Republican, it is a simple decision really, he is the only conservative who actively and repeatedly supports our Constitution. But, and this is a big but, I believe in the process. One in which we are allowed our beliefs, our vote, and through this unmanipulated process, with no marginalization of candidates, we can do what is best for the country. I sincerely believe that the Republican Party's reputation is on the line and it is time for our State leaders to CALL THE MEETING TO ORDER!
Let's go forward on June 7th, finish the process in a legal and parlimentarian way and wipe the egg off the faces of the Nevada Republican Party.

Donation "too grand" to accept??
ROFLMAO!! Oh good golly, my sides hurt from laughing at that pathetically ridiculous excuse!! So the NV GOP is now turning away donations?? They are suddenly demure and are turning down gifts of largesse?? Bwaha-ha-ha!
Yes, NV GOP, we believe you!! (wink wink; nudge nudge) You're just too humble now to accept funds and property and services -- "Oh, no; we just couldn't," as one says when offered another slice of cake.
Perhaps we should get the word out to ALL NV Republicans: "Your GOP no longer wishes to accept donations; please redirect your funds to other parties or purposes."
Too funny, Walt
Those might not have been the exact words "too grand" but the implication was that such a large gift might come with strings attached. The NV GOP rather reminds me of the little kid who grabs the ball, stomping his/her feet saying "but I don't play the game that way, we have to play my way, or I won't play."
Believe me, I don't donate to the National GOP because their push is only for a candidate I cannot in all good conscience support, and the only donations the Nevada GOP will get from me now is to help pay for a meeting room and my own participation in the reconvening of the convention. Really, does anyone see enthusiastic support for McCain from anyone/anything besides the party insiders...well, maybe the media to a certain extent. Why do we buy into a Party which doesn't listen, doesn't care about what the people want, and are so self-absorbed with their own agenda they don't pay attention to the only real energy they have...Ron Paul and the we, the Revolution. They are really either ignorant, or have a "plan" which cannot be altered in anyway and this year they are setting up to lose big. Anyone else want to swing in on those thoughts?

The latest Info I've received
from Bob Beers, who was the Chairman of the NV Convention is "Federal law prohibits the Republican Party from taking anonymous donations. The good news is that the party is looking at a July reconvention date. I understand details are a week or two away." Can anyone verify that law?
Also, Zachary Moyle, who made the announcement as Executive Director of the NV Republican Party declining the donor's offer, replied to my email inquiry: "I want you to know that we are working very hard and will finalize a date in the very near future. The convention will re-convene and we look forward to making it a successful one."

Reply from Nevada Republican Party
I have been emailing, calling, and promoting the June 7th reconvenence all morning. One of the emails I wrote was to the Nevada Republican Party in Las Vegas and here is their email reply:
Thank you for your email and concern regarding the reconvening of this year's Nevada State Republican Party Convention. We apologize that a new date and location have not yet been finalized. However, we want to assure you that we are actively working to find both a date and location in order for the convention to reconvene. In addition, we are exploring any and all options that might help to further increase delegate turnout.
As per the State By-Laws, the convention must reconvene outside of Clark County. Only registered and credentialed delegates who attended the convention on April 26th will be allowed to attend the reconvened meeting. We are working diligently to find a location which will ease the financial burden upon each delegate. Once these decisions have been made, we will send an email to all delegates, making sure that they are the first to know.
In the mean time, we will continue to field your questions, concerns, and suggestions as we work toward making the reconvening of the 2008 Nevada Republican Party's convention is a success.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Nevada Republican Party

Translation, we want to delay things until truly reconvening is not an option and we must either send no delegates, have a mail-in ballot based upon our slate of delegates, or simply submit the slate as compiled by the Election Committee (who were appointed by the NV GOP). Supposedly, they are looking for a solution...well, they have one if they are sincere.

I knew it!!
I will get this out as much as I can... it needs to hit national news!!!
Thanks CharityAngel
Actually, it comes as no surprise to me either. I was in the travel/hospitalty business for years and it is not easy to reserve a major ballroom for a convention. Since the NV GOP needs a room...unless they use a mail-in ballot and this is unacceptable to any thinking person...why not take the room as offered and pay for it, or part of it, themselves? If they can't accept so gracious a gift, then at least accept the room reserved and let's get going.
My thought is that they want to delay to the point where the only plan left is a mail-in ballot, no votes coming from NV at all, or the slate of delegates as "prepared" by the elections committee, whoever that was. It is not the will of We The People. As far as costs to participants go, Reno is a fairly reasonably priced destination overall, and those of us up north are a hospitable group and will help out this regards as much as we can. The GOP could make big brownie points with the rest of the country for fairness if they take full advantage of this offer, imo. They created the problem, promised a reconvene "in a week or two" and so far, I don't see a date, nor have I been contacted by the NV GOP Hq at all on the matter.
Yes, please pass this on. The new Zogby shows that Obama is leading McCain by 8%...oops, latest is double digits. When will the Republican Party wake up to the fact that McCain simply is not really popular with Republicans, unless the desire here is to lose and I'm not at all convinced that isn't the plan.
